Hi! All the cool kids are using pinned posts now. Here's my old about page.

  • I'm 30. This blog is mostly sfw, but does occasionally contain adult-oriented content. If you are a minor following me, I expect you to block the "nsfw" tag so these posts are blocked, and to not interact with them. This blog also will occasionally contain graphic depictions of violence and blood.
  • I’m okay with anything I post being reblogged unless it’s tagged with “please don’t reblog” or some variation thereof.
  • If you don't want me to answer an ask publicly, please say so as I will usually do so. I am also open to private DMs. Anons are usually on and usually it's fine to ask me anything as long as it's genuine/in good faith, just put warnings ahead of anything explicit, suggestive, or potentially disturbing so my followers can be warned if I answer publicly.
  • I will tag things if you ask me to, as long as it's not too difficult to do so. I already tag commonly blocked things like nsfw, gore, and blood. I have also been asked to tag spiders and trypophobia, so I will do my best to remember.
  • I usually prefer to just dump all of my interests on one blog rather than side blogs.
  • I'm a human. Read the URL.

My writing:

I write as a hobby. Most of my current writing is original works. Some of them have illustrations/visuals, but you are free to imagine the characters differently if you like. I welcome fanart, fanfiction, roleplaying asks, and collaborative worldbuilding, for anyone who feels so inclined. Just tag me so I can see! :)

Watch Your Step - Giant/tiny, a story about a fairy and his adventures. An entomologist finds an injured fairy while out in the field. [on hiatus] (The tag for posts about this story is #Watch Your Step) (Does not require reading anything beforehand)

Magnanimous Moonrise & Savage Sunset - A story about a vampire and a vampire hunter, told from dualing perspectives. (caution: graphic) [Active] (The tag for posts about this story is #MMSS) (Does not require reading anything beforehand but related to/inspired by another series)

Magnanimous Moonrise & Savage Sunset Chapter 25MS

For this chapter, I thought it wouldn't add much to have two separate narratives. So this one is a fusion chapter! MM and SS are like this 🤝 Hope you enjoy!

Note: this is NOT the end of the story, but we are getting close to a break in the narrative. I expect there will be 2-3 more chapters in this part!

Warnings for this chapter: Some casual misogyny, classism/racism(?) (if you consider "human" a race)

In this chapter: Getting away with murder, an important announcement from the director, and maybe possibly potentially getting through to a shithead teenage boy.

“Can we at least turn the television on, so he’s not just alone with his thoughts all day?”

Ari looked from Valen, sitting on the couch with a look of concern on his face, to Sebastian, still locked in the coffin nearby.  She sighed.  “All right, fine.”

Valen gave a joyous little wiggle, as though he really wanted to watch TV.

Would A Maushold Be A Good Pet?

The numbers say yes but... it's complicated. As you probably are aware, adopting a maushold doesn't mean adopting a pokémon: adopting a maushold means adopting three to four pokémon! For a lot of people, that's a pretty tall order. For some, it may not even be something they anticipated! A lot of tandemaus owners get caught off guard when their couple of furry friends becomes a bit more of a handful overnight! Thankfully, caring for a maushold isn't too difficult, if you have the right resources and know what you're doing.

As far as research into mausholds go, we don't actually know how they form. Many a tandemaus has become a maushold seemingly on a whim while their owner is out of the house, asleep, or otherwise occupied. Some speculate that becoming a maushold is just a part of a tandemaus' procreation, but it isn't that simple. The critters making up a maushold seem to not necessarily be family (Scarlet - Family of Four). Luckily, maushold numbers do seem to cap at four, so you needn't worry about any exponential population growth in your home!

Mausholds are, on the large, pretty low maintenance pets. In the wild, mausholds like to construct big (at least to them) dens with rooms designed for different purposes (Scarlet - Family of Three). The data is unclear on if there's a specific material that they need to build their dens in. I'd say your best option is providing them with a designated outdoor digging space, or perhaps something like a large ant-farm, in which to build a nest that they feel comfortable in. Keep an eye on your maushold, you never know what household items they may try to pilfer to help decorate or reinforce their dens!

Mausholds are not very dangerous. Most of their moves are relatively harmless, and they can even help you by cleaning up your living space of any harmful elements with Tidy Up! They know one move, however, with a massive penalty on their pet score: Super Fang. This moves cuts the HP of whatever it hits in half(!) Now, as I've said before, I'm not a doctor, but I have a hard time even imagining what it would be like to have my HP cut in half. It sounds pretty bad. Mausholds' signature move, Population Bomb, calls on the aid of other mausholds to attack targets. This move isn't as bad of a problem if there aren't a lot of mausholds around, so it's pretty contextual, but keep it on your radar. Mausholds are thankfully not very violent, only attacking in order to protect the little ones in their groups (Violet - Family of Four). As long as you make sure your pets feel safe and secure, the risk of getting Super Fanged is pretty low.

Whether you're an ambitious pet owner looking to take in a whole bundle of furry friends, or you're a tandemaus owner who woke up to one or two new faces this morning, a maushold would make a pretty good set of pets if you know how to take care of their needs. They're pretty low-key and even friendly: as long as they feel safe and have the space they need to build their nests, you shouldn't have any problems!

Would A Wurmple Be A Good Pet?

A wurple would make a great pet for any bug-lovers out there! The care they need is a little specialized, but nothing that most people couldn't handle.

Like many bug-type pokémon, wurmples are tiny on mostly non-violent, spending most of their time eating or resting in order to grow and prepare for evolution. Wurmples can only use a very limited selection of moves in order to protect themselves from predators. They can bite and shoot sticky silk, of course, which isn't much to worry about in the danger department. They are capable of injecting attackers with poison via the spikes on their back (Sapphire). Luckily, this poison is only said to "weaken" predators (Sapphire) and would be easily avoided by making sure you are careful when handling your buddy to avoid getting jabbed.

Wurmple's preferred food is tree sap, which they acquire in the wild by peeling the bark of trees with their mouths (Ruby). In order to feed your wurmple, it wouldn't be a bad idea to find a way to simulate this feeding method in the home by hiding nutritional sap under cardboard or even tree bark. They can also eat leaves (Emerald), which are easy enough to acquire if you need an alternative food source. Keep in mind that wurmples are excellent climbers, even able to climb sheer glass with the suction cups on their feet (Ruby). Make sure anything that your little friend could get sick by eating is carefully stowed away in a cabinet or closet so that they don't get into it! Also, don't let your wurmple wander about outside without supervision! They are a favorite prey or a lot of bird pokémon, like swellows (Sapphire) and starly (Diamond).

Wurmples are a great bug-type option for pet owners, as their care is relatively straightforward and they pose little to no risk to someone who knows how to properly handle them! Also, might I add: they are very cute, little round guys. They're charming. I'd love a wurmple.

My beloved friend Valiant wishes to ask you if you think the Ralts line make good companions

Avatar

(I’m planning on covering evolution lines as groups once posts have been completed for each stage, so I will be covering the ralts line as a whole once they’re all covered. I’ve previously covered gardevoirs [and will link the post at the bottom of this one], so I figured that for now I’ll cover the little baby ralts themself.)

A ralts would actually make a great pet…. For some. Curiously, ralts are what I’d like to call emotional lack-of-support pets. This is a little critter that’s not gonna give you a lick of emotional support when you’re feeling down. Ralts are the definition of a fair-weather friend. Therefore, while their tiny size, healing abilities, and lack of aggression would theoretically make they exemplary pets, they’re not going to fulfill the role of a pet that many expect.

Using the horns on their head, ralts can detect and decipher human emotions (Ruby). It’s said that if one is in a good mood or has a “positive disposition”, ralts will approach them and delight in their company (Ruby, Sapphire). If you’re not in a happy mood… well… they very well might hide or be distant to you. Wild ralts rarely appear before humans, and seemingly only do so specifically if they sense positive emotions (Ruby, Diamond/Pearl). So if you’re having a particularly bad day, your ralts isn’t going to be there for you. They’re only going to want to hang out with you when you’re in a good mood. Many people (myself included), value their pets and the emotional support they offer, which is something a ralts just simply isn’t going to do.

On a positive note, as I previously mentioned, ralts possess some healing abilities through the moves Life Dew and Heal Pulse, which is great for anyone who struggles with poor health, is prone to injury, or wants to avoid some doctor/vet bills. Ralts can protect themselves with many psychic-type moves which, while probabl;y non-lethal, would hurt quite a bit. Thankfully, ralts don’t seem to be particularly violent, and would be unlikely attack unless cornered. That being said, of course, we must consider the threat they may pose when making our calculations.

As far as the algorithm goes, ralts would make excellent pets. If you are someone with a consistently positive disposition, they may very well be your new best friend. But we all have bad days. If you are to adopt a ralts, you would need to tamper your expectations for the emotional support you desire from a pet.

Anonymous asked:

How good would a Gardevoir be as a pet? Asking for a friend.

Surprisingly, a gardevoir would make a pretty good pet, if you can get past the uncanniness of considering a five-foot humanoid celery creature a pet (for the purpose of this project, all pokémon, aside from specifically sentient ones, are considered equivalent to real-world animals... but still...)

Gardevoirs' size is the biggest issue as far as pet compatibility goes. Five feet is definitely pushing the limits when it comes to pet size, but fortunately gardevoirs don't throw their physical weight around when fighting.

Move-wise, gardevoirs tend to focus on psychic abilities that can cause confusion, but that can't be considered particularly dangerous. However, according to the pokédex, gardevoirs can summon a small black hole with the power of their minds (Sapphire). A black hole. Now, I'm gonna assume that the black holes that gardevoirs can summon aren't nearly as dangerous as real-life black holes, or else the pokémon world would cease to exist. But nonetheless, its not a great idea to take that chance.

Luckily, gardevoirs are only said to use this power in defense of their trainers (Sapphire). They are incredibly loyal to their humans that they have a close bond with, even to the point of sacrificing their life to protect them (Emerald). So, if you have a good relationship with your gardevoir, you should be safe.

Gardevoirs have healing powers, which they can use to heal both themselves and those around them, which is always helpful when considering vet costs. Gardevoir was actually the first pokémon in this project to have the negative effects of their move pool negated by the positive effects.

So, to answer your question, a gardevoir would be a pretty good (if uncanny) pet.

How good would Absol be as a pet? Both Regular or service/working pet. The horn might be problematic at most I fear but I would like to know your opinion.

Avatar

They may have a historically bad reputation, and some pretty intimidating claws, but at heart, absols are sweety-pies. They’re certainly shy, but they love helping people. An absol would make a great pet for a lot of owners, but not all.

The biggest issue with absols, it turns out, is their size. At almost four feet tall, they’re gonna be much too big for a lot of owners. Having spent time with some pretty big dogs in my life, I know that it can sometimes be difficult to make room for them, especially if they’re snuggly. Fans of bigger pets: an absol might be just right for you.

Tragically, absols have been treated with a lot of hostility and hatred by humans for many years (Platinum), and as a result they rarely show themselves to humans. Using the powerful horn on their heads, absols are capable of predicting natural disasters (Sapphire), and they, out of the kidneys of their hearts, constantly want to warn humans about them to protect them (Diamond/Pearl). In the past, this was misinterpreted as them causing natural disasters, earning them the moniker of “the disaster pokémon” (Ruby) and making them the target of violence (Platinum). When you consider all of this, it becomes clear that they would be excellent pets. If you were to win the trust and love of an absol, we know that they will care about you right back. They will want to protect you and everyone around by warning of disasters before they happen. Be warned, though: there’s still a lot of stigma surrounding absols. People of older generations still distrust and despise them, and may not understand you’re wanting to bring one into your home and neighborhood (Ultra Moon).

Perhaps surprisingly, given their reputation and appearance, absols aren’t exceptionally dangerous. Given their size and claws, moves like Night Slash raise an eyebrow, sure. Perish Song could make you faint, which anyone could tell you can be dangerous depending on the circumstances. Future Sight…well…it certainly looks painful. But, that all being said, absols are unlikely to use these moves on people. Even when faced with violence in the past, they chose to flee rather than fight. They have a calm disposition (Moon) and an affinity for humanity. Accidents still can happen, of course, so these moves still carry a penalty, but they’re less of a concern with absols than many dark-type pokémon.

While their size and abilities ensure that they would not be the best choice for every home, there are many cases in which an absol would make a great pet. As a final, interesting note: absols are said to have a lifespan of 100 years (Emerald)! This means that an absol will be a pet that you can bet on being around for a long time, and may even outlive you! Adopting an absol can be a big commitment, but it has a good chance of paying off in many years of loving companionship.

in light of a four day ceasefire in Gaza being agreed upon, i am once again asking you all not to lose sight of the big picture. Biden and the Israeli Government are trying to frame this as a major democratic victory and as a favor respectively. they have no intention of a total ceasefire. they have no intention of stopping their genocide. remember - a ceasefire is the very first step. it’s not even the bare minimum.

the absolute bare minimum in this situation is 1) a complete ceasefire and immediate humanitarian aid in Gaza, 2) complete halt of all military foreign aid to the Israeli government, 3) the Israeli government being prosecuted for its war crimes in the International Criminal Court, and 4) land back and reparations for the Palestinian people. free Palestine means free Palestine, not just temporarily stop carpet bombing Palestine.

a temporary ceasefire is something, but it’s not even close to the end goal. we cannot let up pressure when things seem to be looking up. keep protesting, boycotting, spreading awareness, contacting politicians, etcetera. keep your eyes on Gaza. free Palestine.

Pairing: Karlach/Astarion

Warnings: starvation, implied past torture, canon-typical violence, injury, misunderstandings and Astarion's lack of standards mix poorly

Excerpt:

Karlach ignores him for the next two days.

Or rather, she attempts something not anywhere near as subtle as ignoring him. She scowls and she glares and she folds her arms. When Scratch comes too close to him, she calls the dog away again.

It's evident enough that Gale sets down beside him one night after dinner – after everyone else has had dinner, and Astarion has had still more nothing – and sidles up, companionable.

"Whatever it was," he says. "You might want to think about telling her you're sorry."

Disability rights should extend to people who did that to themselves. To the bloke who got paralysed because he was trying to do a dumb trick on his skateboard, to the person who has diabetes because they ate unhealthily, yes even to those people who got blinded at that NFT convention.

As an on again off again alcoholic who has tried and tried again at recovery, I find myself in a space now where I'm starting to lose my liver function, and I'm now therefore chronically ill. And it sucks, I've tried medication that just exacerbated my mental health issues and I'm signing up for my fourth AOD service. It will always be my fault that I'm chronically ill, but the idea that there are good disabled people and bad disabled people kicks people like me out in the cold.

I think everyone deserves equal opportunity to access disability services, get government pensions, use mobility aids, etc etc, without people going 'actually, you did this to yourself'.

Disability rights NEED to include people who are disabled due to their own actions.

You literally can't properly advocate for rights otherwise. People should not need to suffer needlessly due to mistakes they made.

Nobody should have the power to decide whether or not a disabled person deserves aid, if we allow that in any context we are forming the path for corruption and mistreatment.
