I'm not really sure how this drawing came about. I watched a video on shadows and edges in figure drawing - simplifying shadows and letting some edges stand out and others fade away. And then I drew this. And I haven’t actually simplified the shadows as much as I could have in this picture - I was aiming for something more vague and interpretative, so I might even have another go.
But I like it a lot anyway, and once I'd gone through lots of 'uff, that's rubbish' stages and it was starting to come together, it felt like I really understood the shapes and 3-D-ness and it was as if I was stroking over the contours of his face - and who wouldn’t want to be stroking Castiel’s face?

And here's the drawing with my materials - a 4B Wolff's carbon pencil (they're lovely, but look - I've worn it right down. I like a nice long, knife-sharpened point so I can mainly use the side) and a blending stick (you can draw with them if you dip them in willow charcoal dust) and my squishy rubber. I used my fingers to smudge too. Typically, it's on cheap, thin newsprint paper, so it's very fragile. But I could put it on Redbubble. Maybe I should do an equally romantic Dean and then they'd make a nice Destiel mug?

So, I’m watching one of Conan’s old Tonight Show episodes, and he just mentioned Adam Lambert making out with a male dancer on the American music awards, and how NBC was so mad about that that they cancelled his appearance on Good Morning America. And in response to that news, the audience started clapping. I can hear a few boos, but it’s mostly clapping. And this episode aired in 2009.
I mean, it’s not that I don’t know what public opinion was back then, but it’s always jarring to be thrown back to what public opinion was on LGBTQ stuff even just fourteen years ago. And, from my understanding, Conan’s always had a fairly liberal leaning audience/fanbase and still their reaction to a popstar getting punished for kissing a guy on stage was to cheer.
Anyway, while that might have been fucking rough to listen to, it was also a little encouraging. I know things are nowhere even approaching the realm of perfect now, but it’s always nice to be reminded how fucking far things have come in the past decade or so.

Don’t mind me, just thinking about how:
A) Dean only wants what he thinks he can’t have, and Cas thinks he can’t have what he wants. That’s word-for-word how they’ve both been canonically described to feel about their romantic desires.
B) Dean has always wanted Cas to stay with him but never believed that’s what Cas wanted because he would always leave, whereas all Cas wanted was to be by Dean’s side, but he would always leave because Dean never asked him to stay.
I mean the sheer ridiculousness of it all...

Many months later I've finally completed the destiel WIP I posted back in December. Remind me to never do that again. I had like 78% of the second chapter written this whole time, but filling in those last few thousand words was so dang hard.
Title: lapse and fall again

Summary: Before Jack zips off to give world peace a try, Dean stops him. “What about Cas?” he says, less of an afterthought and more of a reminder that, hey, they’re sort of an incomplete family here.
Sam, catching on, asks, “Can you pull him out?”
The stare Jack levels them with is peaceful. “No,” he says, and Dean feels the earth shift beneath his feet for one very long second before Jack sets his gaze squarely on him, his eyes piercing. “But you can.”
(A post-finale fix-it fic where Dean doesn't die. Instead, he pulls Cas out of the Empty. Eventually, after the reunion, there's romance and a road trip, but not specifically in that order.)
