I’m about to reblog this post with a cover of a book. The book’s title is Who Can Replace A Man. I want you to imagine a cover for that title, perhaps even a cover that answers the question of who in fact can replace a man. I’ll even help you out: it is a science fiction book. This will not really help you. There is truly no way you will be able to imagine this cover. But try anyway. It’ll be a fun experiment.

Among the many non-differentiated types, the unlocker was easy to find. It had fifty arms, most of them with more than one finger, each finger tipped by a key; it looked like a pin cushion full of variegated hat pins.
The field-minder approached it. “I can do no more work until warehouse three is unlocked,” it said. “Your duty is to unlock the warehouse every morning. Why have you not unlocked the warehouse this morning?”
“I had no orders this morning,” replied the unlocker. “I have to have orders every morning.”
“None of us have had any orders this morning,” a pen-propeller said, sliding toward them.
“Why have you had no orders this morning?” asked the field-minder.
“Because the radio issued none,” said the unlocker, slowly rotating a dozen of its arms.
“Because the radio station in the city was issued with no orders this morning,” said the pen-propeller.
And there you had the distinction between a class-six and a class-three brain, which was what the unlocker and the pen-propeller possessed respectively. All machine brains worked with nothing but logic, but the lower the class of brain—class ten being the lowest—the more literal and less informative answers to questions tended to be.
“You have a class-three brain; I have a class-three brain,” the field-minder said to the penner. “We will speak to each other. This lack of orders is unprecedented. Have you further information on it?”
“Yesterday orders came from the city. Today no orders have come. Yet the radio has not broken down. Therefore they have broken down,” said the little penner.
“The men have broken down?”
“All men have broken down.”
“That is a logical deduction,” said the field-minder.
“That is the logical deduction,” said the penner. “For if a machine had broken down, it would have been quickly replaced. But who can replace a man?”
While they talked, the locker, like a dull man at a bar, stood close to them and was ignored.“If all men have broken down, then we have replaced man,” said the field-minder, and it and the penner eyed one another speculatively. Finally the latter said, “Let us ascend to the top floor to find if the radio operator has fresh news.”
“I cannot come because I am too gigantic,” said the field-minder.
it's so funny how immune i am to hustle culture. people will talk about taking breaks for their mental health and how difficult it was for them to do what was right for them and i'm like. it's absolutely unreal how quickly i'll dump something i don't want to do anymore.
Just realized that the reason I love making friends on tumblr is because it’s exactly how you make friends on the playground as a six year old. No, I don’t know their name but they love mermaids too and built this awesome sand castle. No, I don’t know their age but their imaginary cheetah is friends with mine. You like this show? You like this character?? You can sing the theme song really loud??? Here is a flower crown. Here is a juice box. You can share my time and I might never see you again but part of you stays in my soul forever. In my mind we’re still on the swing set and the sky is blue and nothing will ever be wrong again.

I don't believe in wars or nuclear weapons or military campaigns I do believe in the power of that guy who punched the nazi in the face so hard his entire media presence immediately crumbled to dust

Some people are wanting to kill autoplay altogether, but I don't think that is realistic. Platforms want engagement and seeing a few seconds of the video is what intrigues people to watch. So I don't know if that is a grantable request. Perhaps a plugin would be a better method to get that functionality.
Others are saying they may still want to mute the video at some point. So the button could start the video over for one press and then work as a normal mute thereafter.
Or there could just be a "play from beginning button" that leaves the mute button alone.
Theres an option in settings to turn off autoplay on mobile. I think it affects gifs too but I'm not sure.
Install xkit rewritten and enable "Vanilla Video". Videos will not play, muted or otherwise, until you allow them to. As a bonus, you can right-click and download videos from Tumblr with this. A platform's metrics are not your problem. Make your software and platforms work for you, not the other way around.

Gee, Tumblr would probably really hate it if you shared and spread this damning article … To the surprise of absolutely none of Tumblr’s LGBTQ users, it turns out the independent NYC human rights agency Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) found that Tumblr’s ham-fisted adult content ban in December 2018 disproportionately targeted LGBTQ users. The CCHR’s investigation revealed Tumbler’s moderation algorithms is demonstrably biased against queer content. As part of the settlement, Tumblr was obligated to review their prejudicial anti-gay moderation policies. Even more mortifyingly, they’ve also had to hire an expert on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) issues and provide unconscious bias training to their moderators. I frankly doubt Tumblr has learned a thing from this humbling experience. Just recently the Tumblr algorithm flagged three ancient posts of mine as violating their terms. All three “offenders” were vintage homoerotic beefcake images (softcore by modern standards) roughly 50 – 65-years-old by Bruce of Los Angeles, Bob Mizer and Tom of Finland. (These are of course pioneering queer artists who routinely faced censorship and imprisonment in the fifties and sixties. Plus ca change!). They've been visible on my page - corrupting viewers - for years at this point. I appealed all three immediately. Only the Tom of Finland one was approved. The other two are now hidden. So, they haven't learned much. Apparently, Tumblr – who loves to declare how hip, youthful, inclusive and progressive their values are - wants to restore trust with their queer users. I’d recommend we remember their hypocrisy when Pride rolls around and Tumblr splashes rainbow flags everywhere and attempts to pink wash their image.
In honour of Pride Month, this is worth a reblog! Don’t buy into Tumblr’s hypocritical “pink washing.”

True resilience in kids has ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS been the result of the support they receive.
