explaining the characters but badly
Gordon Freeman – Human - Protagonist
-Lives in the Human village
-Before the Resonance Cascade, he never really knew exactly how to fight (??)
-Trains with Reimu (Shooting, bombs, aiming, etc.) and Marisa (flying and dodging) at the Hakurei Shrine (Other than that Reimu and Marisa don't show up because um. This isn't about them.)
-Not a youkai exterminator though he does dislike most of them
Darnold Pepper – Human – Side protag kind of?? He doesn’t follow along with Gordon but still helps
-Lives in the Human village, but spends most of his time working at Kourindou, except he doesn’t really work there (since there's not really any work that needs to be done), he just has a place somewhere where he makes potions n such
-Does not interact with Benrey until after Gordon defeated him
-Helped Gordon with his gun arm before he was off to go find Benrey
Forzen – Some kind of youkai (I'mmmmm allowed to say this because Hong Meiling is a youkai but its not clear what kind) - First stage boss
-Guard ig for Benrey’s kingdom thing ? Xen
-Still loyal to Benrey even after he was defeated by Gordon, not-quite-bad-guy-but-not-quite-good-guy type thing going on or something. Basically a pointless grudge against everyone but Benrey
-He’s sorta based off of Hong Meiling I really don’t know what to do with him sorry
Harold P. Coomer – Ghost – Second stage boss
-Hangs out at the Nameless hill or near Hakugyokurou idk what he does
-Body is buried underneath the Nameless hill (epic reference to "there's nothing out there")
-Attachment to the world is the grudge against his ex-wife, but not a very vengeful spirit, more of a lost one
-Meets Bubby during the Xen invasion
Dr. Bubby – Lunarian – Third stage boss
-Banished/Fled to Earth during the Lunar War
-Hangs around Bamboo Forest of the Lost near Eientei sometimes, not really sure where he actually lives though
-Spends his time studying the Otherworlds, self-proclaimed “Doctor”
-Showed great interest in whatever Xen was, so he easily joined Benrey’s side
-Coomer is his favorite (so awesome)
Tommy Coolatta – Oni – Fourth stage boss
-Used to live in the Ancient City, but later moved to the Human village disguised as a human (before Resonance Cascade)
-Is either gullible and easy to trick, or cautious and clever. He joined Benrey's side after being convinced that Gordon was the enemy.
-After the issue was solved, he returned to being friends with Gordon, forgave Benrey, and also became friends with him.
-Less competitive and doesn’t drink saké like the other oni
-Likes to hang out with Darnold over at Kourindou
-Sunkist lives with him in the Human village and helps protect people
Benrey – Amanojaku - Main antagonist - Final stage boss
-Rules over Xen and attempted to merge Xen with Gensokyo with help from G-man, causing a disruption and alien invasion near the Human village
-Was able to deceive/convince/whatever Tommy, Bubby, and Coomer into being on his side
-His sweet voice is used as bullets and sounds like the ZUNpet
G-man – Half-human half-youkai, sort of a god – Side antagonist - Extra stage boss
-Gave Benrey the power to somewhat merge Xen and Gensokyo
-Idk what else he does I don’t feel like thinking
Homer comes for us all
Wayne is straight up such a good actor that I for real thought he was being dragged into hell and forgot this was a joke for a second.
This is a comment someone appended to a photo of two men apparently having sex in a very fancy room, but it’s also kind of an amazing two-line poem? “His Wife has filled his house with chintz” is a really elegant and beautiful counterbalancing of h, f, and s sounds, and “chintz” is a perfect word choice here—sonically pleasing and good at evoking nouveau riche tackiness. And then “to keep it real I fuck him on the floor” collapses that whole mood with short percussive sounds—but it’s still a perfect iambic pentameter line, robust and a lovely obscene contrast with the chintz in the first line. Well done, tumblr user jjbang8
I hate that my aesthetic sense agrees with this but everything you just said was correct
I went back to dig up this post because I was thinking about poetry.
This is one of those non-poem things that are among my favorite poems.
As the OP stated, the use of alliterative consonants is aesthetically just great, especially the placement of the strongest use at the end: “fuck him on the floor.” The use of “chintz” is indeed great word choice.
Because I’m insane, decided to scan the poem:
Not only is the second sentence, indeed, perfect iambic pentameter, the entire poem is perfectly metered, though the first sentence has four iambs rather than five.
There are further things I love about this poem, though: I like the casual connotations of “keep it real” juxtaposed with “chintz.” It causes me to interpret the “chintz” more strongly as meaning something fake, a facade. There is also of course the coarseness of “fuck,” which is a contrast with “chintz” but a different kind of contrast, gutsy and carnal where “chintz” is flimsy and inanimate.
And then there is the storytelling: there is SO MUCH storytelling in just these two lines. To break it down: The speaker is having sex with a married man, in the house he shares with his wife, which is “filled with chintz”—something that here connotes fakeness, in contrast with “keep it real.”
The illicit encounter in the poem takes place within a house filled with facade, the flimsy construction of the wife’s marriage and domestic sphere, but the encounter itself is a taste of something “real.” That’s a story, and it’s just two lines.
This is EIGHTEEN SYLLABLES, y’all. The amount of meaning condensed into these eighteen syllables is stunning, and it is so elegantly done.
From a technical standpoint (and ive taken 300- and 400-level poetry classes so I can say this) this is damn near flawless as a poem.
Kept thinking about this ever since I saw it and had to do something
there's art now
