i want to make a post for all us mentally ill lgbtq folks!!

it’s so incredibly hard to manage your thoughts every single day, let alone coming to terms with your identity, coming out, dealing with the various reactions to your identity from your loved ones and the rest of the world and most importantly loving and accepting yourself.

what a lot of people outside the community don’t realise is that so many lgbt people experience mental illness as a result of the attitudes toward our community or our symptoms are worsened by our individual struggles.

there are services that understand this and provide resources to help you. i recommend trevorspace as a resource for mentally ill lgbt people!

please remember that you are the bravest people i know. you are not alone and there are many of us in the community just like you, with similar thoughts and disorders and illnesses. this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t seek help and treatment, only to say that you are not alone in this. please stay strong and know you have a family here. i love you and i could not be more proud of you.

“I dont care what your gender is”

I care about your gender and I respect it.

“I dont care if you’re black yellow green pink”

I recognize your race, and your ethnicity, and I respect them to my fullest capability

The fact of the matter is that sometimes staying closeted for your own safety isn’t just about fear of physical violence. Sometimes it’s because you don’t think that you could handle the rejection, judgement, and/or emotional abuse that could come with coming out. Sometimes it’s because you don’t know what coming out would entail and you’re scared to find out. Staying closeted (with everyone or with some people) is your choice. Put your wellbeing above all else. I love you, stay safe.

Anonymous asked:

How do I know I’m not faking being trans?

A long time ago, I saw this post that said if you’re wondering if you’re faking, you’re probably not faking. In the end, if you realize you are cis after questioning, it doesn’t mean you were faking, it means you learned more about yourself.

to any nonbinary or genderqueer people out there:

  • it’s okay if you use umbrella terms to describe your gender.
  • you don’t need specific labels if you don’t know which ones fit or just don’t want to use them.
  • it’s also okay to use specific labels to describe your gender.
  • labels that are less well known are still valid, and you are allowed to embrace them if you want.

Lee says:

  • The word “transgender” is an umbrella term that covers anyone who identifies as a gender they were not assigned at birth.
  • Both binary people and non-binary people are equally transgender.
  • Being trans without dysphoria is possible.
  • Gender expression ≠ gender identity, as shown on the genderbread person
  • Again, if you don’t fully identify as the gender you were assigned at birth 100% of the time, you can call yourself trans. That’s it, there’s no other criteria you need to meet to be trans.

How to get used to your new name when you’re not out

  • Set Siri/Google Assistant/Cortana/etc. to use it.
  • Play a video game where you can name your character. (I recommend Animal Crossing since it uses your name very often. You can create up to four characters.)
  • Go to Starbucks and use your new name when the barista asks you for it.
  • Google Chrome allows you to change the name displayed on top of the screen without changing anything else. You can also create a new profile without having to create a new Google account.
  • Change the name of your Windows user account.
