chapter 5-26

end of chapter 5

read from the beginning / read on tapas / read on webtoon / my art blog / art instagram / heartstopper merch / read the next update early on Patreon!
Charlie, a highly-strung, openly gay over-thinker, and Nick, a cheerful, soft-hearted rugby player, meet at a British all-boys grammar school. Friendship blooms quickly, but could there be something more…?
Heartstopper updates three times a month, on the 1st, 11th, and 21st.

Much of the advice Nick is following here is inspired by the advice available on the Beat Eating Disorders website. If you have a friend or family member possibly dealing with an undiagnosed eating disorder, this page has a lot of really good advice: www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/supporting-someone/worried-about-friend

I really appreciate reblogs and shares - please help me spread word about this comic! I’m so excited for people to read it!

Harry Potter’s fourth birthday party was chaotic, to say the least. Sirius was supervising at the moment, as per Lily’s instructions, and he was not doing a good job.

“No, Harry,” he said firmly, “You can’t eat that.”

Harry stared up at his godfather with wide eyes as he continued to chew on the plastic tractor.

“Harry!” Sirius cried and tried to tug the toy from his mouth. Harry tugged back with unwarranted strength.

“Mine,” he blubbed.

Sirius shook his head. “Yes, but don’t eat it!”

“Mine.”

Week 3

these things i could never describe, by cjmasim:  "Do you know what this meeting is going to be about?” Sirius takes a bite of his sandwich, chewing slowly before answering. “I don’t. He takes a bite of his own, anxiety mildly suppressed by Sirius’ honesty. “Well, they’re not going to kick me out of the band,” Sirius says with a slight chuckle. “How would that work, anyway? Wolfstar: “Put me down! I can walk!”

(cc: anon)

Prompt #13: “Put me down! I can walk!”

Jump off the rope, James had said, it will be fun, James had said.

Remus had refused to jump off the rope swing the whole day, preferring to float on his back, far away from where Sirius and James had been inventing new kinds of backflips all afternoon. In the dog days of summer, somewhere between packing their bags and heading to Kings Cross to begin their sixth year, Remus, James, and Sirius had stolen away to a discreet water hole nestled in a thick patch of forest a couple miles from Remus’ home.

It was the perfect escape from the intense England heat, the sun beating down a relentless, crashing pulse. Armed with towels and snacks and enough sunscreen to cover a small country thanks to Remus, the three boys hiked to the pond.

Remus wasn’t the best swimmer. He could doggy-paddle around if he absolutely had to, but what he lacked in swimming talent he made up for in his ability to float for minutes at a time, never worried that his face was going to submerge. He loved the feeling of suspending in nothingness, not being able to feel the weight of his arms or legs or the burdens on his shoulders. It was one of the reasons why he took so many baths at school, especially around the time the moon shone brightly in the sky.

Sirius and James on the other hand could have made an Olympic swimming team. A potent combination of fearlessness and daring, the two of them would race to the bottom of the pond, meters upon meters below the safety of the water’s surface, and see who could hold their breath the longest. When James nearly drowned and Remus forbid them from such contests, the two daredevils conjured up a long strand of rope and strung it from a branch of one of the tallest trees. They took turns shimmying up the twine and launching themselves towards the water.

Every time Sirius and James tried to coax Remus into jumping, he adamantly declined, but couldn’t help but watch each swing with curious eyes, laughing when Sirius roared through the air like Tarzan, long hair streaking behind him, chest muscles flexing brilliantly underneath his skin. It was an image that Remus saw when he tipped his head back in the water and closed his eyes, bringing a smile to his lips each time.

Conjuring up every fiber of courage in his body, Remus finally nodded at Sirius and James and slowly made his way towards the rope swing. He climbed the tree easily enough, grabbing hold of the rope and looking down at the water that seemed to be a lot farther down than he was anticipating.

“C’mon Moony!” Sirius called, waving his arms.

“You got this!” James added.

Remus took a deep breath, adjusted his death-grip on the rope, and kicked away from the tree.

Air rushed into his ears, over his face, through his hair as he swung from the branch, and it was equal parts exhilarating and terrifying. Remus let out a scream as he let go of the rope and freefell into the water, but as soon as he felt the water splash against his skin, cool and refreshing, he felt his arm meet hard rock, followed by a sensation all too warm and burning for his liking.

Remus was vaguely aware that he was unable to move his arm, which also meant he was quickly sinking to the bottom of the pond. He managed to open his eyes, watching the rippled yellow-orange sunset through crystal water; if this was the last thing he would see, it least it was beautiful.

Not as beautiful, of course, as seeing Sirius furiously paddling towards him, eyes wide with panic, hands forcefully parting the water in front of him. He gingerly took Remus’ shoulders and brought them to the surface, gasping for breath.

“The one rock!” James exclaimed. “The one rock in the whole pond and you hit it, Moony!”

“Are you okay?” Sirius asked, carefully touching Remus’ where a messy red rash careened over the expanse of his arm. Remus flinched, reaching for his t-shirt to press over the sensitive skin.

Remus nodded, chest still heaving, lungs glad to finally receive oxygen. “I hate rope swings.”

Sirius and James laughed, rustling Remus’ hair and offering him a vanilla biscuit from their snack stash. Remus begrudgingly took it, still bitter, but only long enough for Sirius to look at him with those big dog eyes before he was accepting a delicate kiss.

Collecting their things, James took the bulk of their gear, leading the way back towards Remus’. Before Remus could step in line, arm securely wrapped in a towel, Sirius was squatting in front of him.

“Hop on,” Sirius said, as if that explained everything.

“My arm is skinned, my legs aren’t broken,” Remus rebuked, stepping around him.

Sighing, Sirius mumbled, “I tried to do this the easy way.”

Remus hardly had time to blink before he was lifted off the ground, finding himself sitting tall on Sirius’ shoulders, swaying dangerously off balance as Sirius staggered a couple steps forward.

“Sirius! Put me down! I can walk!” Remus demanded, biting back a smile.

“No. You’re hurt. So sit there and shut up,” he responded, hands securely wrapping around Remus’ calves.

As childish and ridiculous as he felt, Remus had to admit that the view was much better from up here; he could feel strong shoulder muscles ripple and undulate, he could wrap his fingers in Sirius’ long hair, he could hook his ankles into the dips of Sirius’ hips.

“You’re an idiot,” Remus murmured affectionately, reaching down and tapping Sirius’ nose.

“Maybe. But you still love me,” Sirius insisted.

“Maybe.”
