Damn, Nickelodeon cancelled ROTTMNT. Apparently because of bad toy sales.

I think the problem is that the show wasn’t bad… the toys were. The show was awesome.

I admit I wanted to buy a figurine from the show, but they looked like cheap plastic McDonalds toys, so I never did. Probably why others didn’t bother either.

And sure, I get kids are willing to buy/play with cheap toys, but their parents aren’t gunna spend a heap of money on what looks like junk. And most of it did look like junk.

Also it being TMNT, many fans are adults anyway, so they really could have focused on that too, which I don’t think they did.

So it’s a shame the show is finished. It had a lot going for it. The animation was so damn amazing, and it was hella funny at times. And yeah, I’m sad it’s over. I heard rumors of a movie though, I hope that’s true. I would love to see a ROTTMNT movie.

PS. Nickelodeon seems to suck at merchandising in general. Still heaps mad they didn’t make barely any new Invader ZIM stuff either despite the movie. Seems the only thing they care about is Spongebob.

All right. So some of the Rise writers came forwards with information on Rise. 

They planned three seasons of build up for that finale. 

Normally you get 11-12 weeks for one script. They were told to cut 13 and write four finale episodes with 6 weeks on the clock. 

We would have gotten some episodes like:

-Donnie tries to grow a giant pumpkin.

-Ghostbear has a wedding to a new yokai. Raph and Mikey crash it.

-Giant robot dinos that Mikey thinks are cute appear (”boopable snoots” is used).

-Mikey is left the oldest brother when the other three get turned into toddlers.

-The Foot Clan runs a cupcake store.

-Karai remains as some of the main cast for a GOOD while.

Nick told the crew the show was on “pause.” The initial vibe was “wait-and-see-after-the-movie.” That’s not a no. Glitch Techs did this move. Invader Zim did this move.

Let’s make Rise another success story. 

I’m kind of confused on the timeline for episode writing - so each standard episode goes through 12 ish weeks of writing, or 12 weeks of production from writing to boarding to animating etc?

does the 6 weeks for 4 episodes mean 6 weeks for doing all of that including scripting and animation??

honestly regardless of the details it seems the crew had to work an incredible amount harder on a project that was cut short so they couldn’t expand on what they wanted to. It’s such a shame and I hope they get the chance to see their ideas into fruition

Typically, from what I have been told as a screenwriting student, you get 11-12 weeks to:

-Pitch script ideas

-Basic Outline

-Beat Sheet

-Draft One

-Draft Two / Final

I’m sure there are some slight differences in each writing room, but yes, 12 weeks JUST FOR WRITING. The rest comes after. This is why animation typically is in process a year and a half before it airs. (The news for the finale of Rise broke September 2019 to the crew I believe.)

One script writer for Rise apparently did a full rough draft for the finale in one night. They had a bit over a week per an episode to go through all of those steps. They must have been under huge amounts of pressure, and I’d say they pulled it off incredibly.

But to hear that they wouldn’t have written the last four episodes like that, that they knew they could never make it perfect with that kind of time… that hurts, as a fellow writer, to know. I want to help fix that.

Undo the Damage of Sitting

Attention non-artists who commission artists: don’t fuckin do this???

Actually had someone do this to me too. Was doing a art stream, it took me over 2 hours to do his inked commission, he got a refund cause ‘it took too long’ that he figured I wasn’t going to do it after I gave him the file.

Don’t do this. Do not.

I’ve had this happen to me with a $350 comic :/ I had already finished it, it was full color, 6 panels and had a full bg in every panel. I was lucky in that I didn’t spend him money yet, but it left me without funds. I’ve also had the above happen to me as well.

Don’t do this shit to artists. We’re people too. Drawing for you is more than a hobby. It’s a job.

Use Paypal Invoices. 

I cannot stress this enough. That shit helps A LOT when it comes down to Paypal refunds/disputes. There’s a description box that let’s you put in what the product is/how long it’ll take/yadda yadda, and then there’s another little memo box that only you and paypal can see where you can say it’s a digital commission and doesn’t require shipping (So Donald Mcfuck can’t say that they never got their commission). And there’s also a box for your Terms & Conditions where you can say, if you have any conflicts/want a refund - email me, or you can actually tell the user that this is a digital commission and they won’t be getting a hard copy of it.

ARTISTS. PLEASE USE PAYPAL INVOICES. it will SAVE you. And to: the people who do this to artists – Fuck you. It’s okay if you change your mind and want a refund. But freaking TALK to us and let us know what’s going on. Let us WORK with you.

ALSO A HUGE TIP: Invoices paid will automatically set up a shipping notice which, if not fulfilled, can land you in SERIOUS hot water with PayPal. Since a lot of artists don’t print and ship the commissions, this is a huge problem.

However! Totally manageable. Just go to your PayPal, scroll down to find Seller Preferences

>> Display Ship Button. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Then you’re all set!

As a big supporter of artists, don’t you ever fucking dare fuck over an artist like that. Like don’t. And if they take their time to do a good job, don’t shit all over them for it! Don’t be a fucking ass hole. Just don’t. These people put a  LOT of work and time and effort into their artwork. Just don’t be that guy. Often times these artists aren’t even getting what they deserve in compensation. 

I am very grateful my customers have been good to me, but I’m spreading the word.

Also don’t feel bad about putting those sorts of people on blast. If they commission you on tumblr or twitter @ them so other artists know to avoid them. Ruin their reputations. Do them dirty in front of their followers.
