The second that Hope was in sight, Gwen ran towards her and wrapped her arms around her. Telling herself again — Hope was safe. Even when everything else felt like it was about to blow into a thousand pieces, Hope was safe and she was safe with Hope. The question came and Gwen found herself thinking of that man with scars on his face, he didn’t know her name but he knew her face, and what she could do. And a new wave of this unfamiliar anxiety hit Gwen. “Yes, but I have that handled,” she tried to say, but her usual vibrant confidence wasn’t quite there.
“My dad,” Gwen started with, “he left a few files out and said in passing that they were narrowing down their Ghost Spider profile… they’ve narrowed it down to my age and that I’m a student.” When she left it like that, it seemed like there was nothing to worry about, but then Gwen pulled away from Hope and looked at her, “They also know Ghost Spider has a connection to the police.”

Hope had her arms out just as soon as she saw Gwen moving towards her, and she wrapped her arms around her too, holding her close as she rubbed soothing circles on her back. She wished that Gwen didn’t have to go through things like this. She shouldn’t have had to worry about things like this when she was so young, but Hope knew that it was her own choice. Having abilities like hers wasn’t her choice, but she was doing with them was. “Gwen, are you sure?” she asked. “Who knows?”
Gwen’s father was always a constant worry for them, and it never surprised her when his name came up. Hope could investigate further. It would be easy for her to shrink down and look through those files to see exactly what they were thinking and possibly cast their suspicion elsewhere. She couldn’t make them think she was a different age. That could be determined from appearance alone, but her being a student was something they could combat. “So what we need to do is have you be in two places at once. They might not suspect you now, but we’ll need to make alibis for you just in case. Tell people you’ll be at certain places, and I can get a picture taken there and posted on your accounts to make it seem like you were really there when you’re actually off being Ghost Spider. As for them thinking you have a connection to the police…we’ll figure it out. If he talked about it to you, he might not suspect you.”
