Some of you don't seem to realise that price tags on this kind of thing are very variable. Some people are invited to draw attention - I'm gonna bet most of the singers there did not have to pay, because they're part of the product.

Rich weirdos like Elon Musk have to pay for their ticket. Randos who just really want to hobnob with the rich and famous definitely have to pay. Also, this isn't a for-profit event - it's a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. It's very much not like, concert tickets or supermarket food with marked price tags.

The organisers invite elected officials (for free) because the Met museum is NYC government property (and if it wasn't it would charge a hell of a lot more than $25 for entry! As it is $25 per visitor (less for students, free for children and caregivers) only barely covers maintenance, climate control, preservation of the art, curation etc)

So basically AOC was invited as a matter of protocol, for free, and instead of showing up in a pretty dress and sitting quietly like they expected her to, she proudly wore a dress (from a Black designer, no less) emblazoned with TAX THE RICH in front of the richest bunch of elites in the city??

It’s my birthday! And I’m getting evicted!

Hi, folks. I hate to do this again not even a year after last December’s financial scare, but we’ve run into an emergency. Long story short, we faced a structural issue in our apartment that we couldn’t address on our own that quickly devolved into something that spun out of control due to mental illness, immigration procedures, and an onslaught of financial problems regarding my tuition and healthcare. 

We’ve lost our security deposit of $850 Canadian dollars,. and we’ve been given until October 1st to find a new place to live. Naturally, that’s incredibly difficult to accomplish without a significant amount of spending and personal risk. So! We’ve decided to resort to setting up an emergency fund to address any potential setbacks and obstacles we might face in the meantime. We’re setting an initial goal of $850 Canadian dollars to cover the lost deposit, and we’ll keep the fund open until maybe November. 

My sister and I have our birthdays on the 6th and the 14th, and since we’re dealing with this they’re not exactly going to be the most fun. So if you’d like to donate a little more on top of our goal so we can spend those days a little less miserable, we’d also appreciate that.

The reason that blackness almost acts as a sexuality is because antiblackness is something that is so innate in the minds of nonblack people when growing up, that them preferring not to date someone who is black is almost as normal as them preferring not to date someone who isn’t their preferred sex.

Did y’all follow that? Like, let me give you an example. Like, a straight white male saying that they don’t date black girls is just as normal in society as a straight white male saying that they don’t date boys. And straight white women saying that they don’t date black boys was almost as normal as them saying they don’t date women. And granted, that example might not be as prevalent as the last one, but still.

And I know in both of those examples, they were white, but it applies with nonblack POC too. And to add a little bit of intersectionality, let’s be honest, it probably applies to some black men, too. And that’s a shame, that we would treat our own women similarly to that of a sex we don’t prefer.

Oh, I just thought of something! Antiblackness is something that is so innate in the minds of nonblack people that they would almost have to come out! Come out! And say that they like black people. It’s like homophobia was so innate that you would have to come out and say you’re homosexual.

They’re also shooting for 100% renewable plastic sources by 2030! All of the soft plant/leaf elements in sets right now and going forward are made out of bioplastic made from sugarcane, and they’re working on getting the regular hard plastic bricks out of that, too.

They’ve done it, actually! The full bricks are in the prototype stage now, and are expected to be 100% biodegradable without the need for a commercial compost facility. It’s very cool. Right now they’re testing the durability and playability of the bricks and seeing what needs to be revised/reworked on their final model.

So its that easy huh

Actually, this isn’t “easy” and is huge news. You see, Lego is absolutely meticulous about their quality control. Their standards for manufacturing are stupidly high, as are their safety requirements. You know that distinctive “click” when you pop two Lego bricks apart? They engineered that. That sound is so distinctive that it can be used to tell genuine Lego bricks from counterfeits and it’s a sound that would be based on shape and material.

Furthermore, one of the hard requirements for a Lego brick is that it must be compatible with any other Lego brick. If I buy a set today and pull a set from the 1980s? Those bricks would fit together perfectly. This requires a huge amount of precision engineering and controls on manufacturing quality. (I can’t remember the source, but I’ve at least heard that once the brick molds wear to a certain point, they’re pulled from the line and either melted down or turned into construction material for Lego HQ. Point being, no one is getting their hands on a worn Lego mold)

Recycled and non-petroleum plastics are different from other plastic. The chemistry is different. The timing and process to use them is different. This has been a reason why more companies haven’t moved to them, because there’s a drop in quality for material (so they claim).

What Lego just did is completely obliterate that argument. The corporation with some of the strictest quality control requirements for plastic just kicked the basic foundation of the “bad quality” argument out from under it, because if they feel confident enough to guarantee the same experience as using a brick from over 40 years ago, if they are confident enough that they can meet their own metrics at a huge industrial scale….

Nobody else has any excuse.
