Some more G.I. Joe fan art.

Another G.I. Joe fan art piece. Mutt and Junkyard take advantage of a rare opportunity to get some rest while out on a mission.
I drew Junkyard awake because I like the idea that they just instinctively take turns sleeping whenever danger might be near. This way they are almost never both asleep at the same time and can always watch over each other.
Still a work in progress. Pencil on Bristol board, with some minor digital enhancements. Also Junkyard’s fur detail was drawn in digitally.
Sgt. Bazooka from G.I. Joe
Just some G.I. Joe fan art for a change of pace. This is Sergeant David L. Katzenbogen, code name: Bazooka.
The idea here is that someone said Bazooka looked like he was getting fat and, being a show-don’t-tell kind of guy, this is how he proves them wrong.
On a side note I used the 1980s Sunbow cartoon color scheme for this drawing.
Stump takes a moment to relax at the end of Stump #2.
The book is complete and InDemand, so check it out here if you want a copy: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/stump-2-comic-book
Because of the paper shortage and rising printing costs, the print run on this issue ended up being much smaller than Stump #1. I’m actually down to my last box of books, so once they are gone then that’s it until I can afford to do a second printing.
Working on some artwork for Stump #3.
Stump #2 is complete and still InDemand, so check it out if you want a copy: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/stump-2-comic-book
Since the book is complete and the campaign is fulfilled, I’m just selling through my overprint. So if you back the book now, I can usually get it mailed out within 3 business days. There are also a limited number of copies of Stump #1 available in the InDemand store.
The transformation of the Mangrell.
A new page from Stump #2 that I’ve been working on. This is the very first known transformation of a human being into the Mangrell, which took place around 5,000 years ago in a country that is currently at the bottom of the ocean just off the east coast of North Korea.
I decided to make this sequence a little dark and scary, because you need to feel that the antagonists of any story should be taken seriously. Especially with a main hero as powerful as Stump. There is a reason that the entire second issue is devoted to Stump's encounter with the Mangrell. Still, I did decide to go with abstracted colors just to dial the gruesomeness down a little bit.
Stump #2 is currently InDemand on Indiegogo right now: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/stump-2-comic-book?fbclid=IwAR1yztU97abg3PrMCvyc3KXXo26sHA_08JUAu4oFNIu9iXU_beojqD6kVcw#/
Another preview page from Stump #2. This time introducing a new character who I haven’t talked about before, however, she has been a part of the Mangrell’s origin since the beginning.
Only a few days left in the Stump #2 campaign, so check it out if you’re interested: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/stump-2-comic-book?fbclid=IwAR1yztU97abg3PrMCvyc3KXXo26sHA_08JUAu4oFNIu9iXU_beojqD6kVcw#/
Three panels of new artwork from Stump #2. These are in order, but they are spread out across two separate pages. Aspects of this story will have a slightly darker tone as I wanted to experiment with some horror movie inspirations here and there.
As of yesterday, the Stump #2 campaign has officially passed the Stump #1 campaign in the dollars raised. Here’s the link if you want to check it out: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/stump-2-comic-book/x/18600752?fbclid=IwAR1yztU97abg3PrMCvyc3KXXo26sHA_08JUAu4oFNIu9iXU_beojqD6kVcw#/
Ethan Van Sciver’s Reignbow the Brute
I needed a change of pace, so I decided to do a bit of fan art. In response to so many boys’ toy properties being feminized to appeal more to girls, Ethan decided to take girls’ toy properties and masculinize them for boys. Thus, Reignbow the Brute was born. I love this idea and can’t wait for the comic to be done.
For more info on who this guy is, check out the Indiegogo campaign:
The Stump #2 Indiegogo campaign is live now! If you missed out on the first campaign, there is a tier included where you can order both books together, but quantities are limited.
Stump #2: 4-page preview
Four sequential pages from Stump #2 that I’m working on now. I’ll probably continue to tweak these pages right up until the book goes to print, but for now they are about as done as they are going to get. I left the dialog out to keep from giving too much of the story away, but also so that I can tweak the dialog later, if necessary.
I plan to go live with the Indiegogo campaign for the book before the end of the month. I’ll be sure to announce it here when I do.
Stump #2 work in progress
This will most likely be the cover for the second issue of Stump, and I hope to go live with the IGG campaign within the next couple of weeks.
Stump #1: Remastered proofs are here!
I’ve got a couple of minor adjustments to make, but otherwise I’m ready to place the order for the full print run. That will be done before the end of this weekend at the latest.
Thanks everyone!
New cover for Stump #1: Remastered, still live on Indiegogo!
As I’m entering the home stretch of getting the Stump #1: Remastered comic done, I have to start thinking about stuff like the back cover, inside front cover, and inside back cover. So, I did this drawing and it will most likely appear somewhere on one of the inside covers.
Stump #1: Remastered new artwork preview
Since these pages are up on the campaign as original art tiers and haven’t been claimed yet, I figured it was safe to show them in their 99% completed form.
Did I mention that the original pencil artwork for these pages is still available to be purchased on the campaign page?
Stump through the years
I was going through some old boxes at my parent’s house and found several old drawings that I thought were long gone. I’m posting a couple of them here.
The first drawing might be the oldest surviving original drawing of Stump that I have found so far. It was definitely drawn between June and December of 1993, at the tail end of my tour of duty in Germany. So within the first 6 months of initially creating the character and the closest to my original design (the original drawing for Stump had a communications headset permanently grafted to his head, but that disappeared almost right away - although it does reappear in flashbacks in Stump #1). I’m not sure what’s going on with the layout. I think I was planning to put some text on the right side of the paper describing his superpowers. His musculature is also pretty extreme, but it was the 90s and I was heavily influenced by Image Comics books like The Maxx, Pitt, Savage Dragon, etc.
The second drawing is from 1996 and represents me going back and reimagining his original design after a couple years of writing him as part of a military based team of superheroes (and a more normal sized guy). Interestingly, I had forgotten about this drawing until I returned home from a Bosnia deployment, in 1997, and saw it hanging up on the wall of the comic book shop in my parent’s town. That shop had changed ownership while I was deployed and I was kind of surprised that they left my drawing on the wall without having any clue who I or Stump were. I asked for the drawing back and they gave it to me and it was kind of the default design for Stump for a couple of years after that. Most of the story for Stump #1 was actually written while I was in Bosnia.
The last drawing is from a few days ago. I wanted to redo the 1996 picture as a comparison to how I am drawing Stump today. I feel like I’ve improved in my drawing skills since then and I hope you agree. Also, the red flannel shirt goes all the way back to 1993 and has been a staple of Stump’s look almost since the beginning.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this brief look at 27 years of Stump history. Stump #1: Remastered is still live on Indiegogo, so you can check that out if you are interested.
Well, I've been working on the remastered Stump comic for the past couple of months now and I can't wait for everyone to see the new stuff that's been added to the book, but people keep telling me not to show too much of that before it's complete. So, I won't give any of that away, but I can share this since it has nothing to do with the Stump book. Every once in a while, I like to sharpen my skills by drawing something in a much more realistic style, so this is an alternate version of Stump from back when I was still conceptualizing the character in the 1990s. Over the years I've always bounced between two versions of Stump: the superhero version, who I'm drawing the comic book for right now, and an "average guy" version of Stump, who is just a short, stocky guy who gets caught up in a world-altering, extraordinary event. What all that in mind, I've decided to fully split "average guy Stump" off into a separate character (he won't be called Stump at all). So this is Private First Class Jeremy Douglas (his name is not 100% final). A combat engineer in the US Army who, along with the rest of his platoon, gets dragged into an interdimensional war. It's kind of a big story and I'm not sure if a comic book is the right medium for it, so we'll see what happens. Right now I'm still working on getting Stump #1 Remastered completed, but every once in a while I just need to get these random bursts of inspiration out of my head. Stump #1 Remastered is still live on Indiegogo if you haven't back it yet. We just passed $4000 a few days ago, so check it out if you are interested: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/stump-1-comic-book-remastered#/
Thanks!
I added three new original art tiers to the Stump #1 Remastered IGG campaign. This is all new art created just for this new version of the book. If you’ve been following my art for a while, you might recognize this 3-page sequence. I’ve always liked it, but just didn’t think the quality of those older pages was good enough to add to the book as they were, so I redrew all three pages from scratch. Please check it out and consider backing today!
A new page that I’ve been working on for the remastered, full-color reprint of Stump #1. Live on Indiegogo right now! We’re currently only $670 away from being fully funded, so I’d appreciate it greatly if you would consider backing it. Thank you!
