i think it is very depressing that like every aesthetic people try to emulate are of people doing things but they themselves are incapable of being somebody that does things… the mall goth 2005 aesthetic revived in 2022 but nobody goes to the mall to be annoying and weird and nobody lets themselves be cringe… the cottagecore aesthetic but nobody knows how to raise gardens or live self sufficiently … the dark academia aesthetic but nobody actually reads books…. The obsession of looking like you are a type of person who does something without actually doing anything … the Instagram effect
we need to bring back the word Poser
The situationists believed that the shift from individual expression through directly lived experiences, or the first-hand fulfillment of authentic desires, to individual expression by proxy through the exchange or consumption of commodities, or passive second-hand alienation, inflicted significant and far-reaching damage to the quality of human life for both individuals and society.
This was an observation made in the 1960s and it has only become more relevant as capitalism lurches through the decades. We are alienated from genuine expression and community, seeking instead the cold accumulation of capital -- whether that be in monetary or social or spiritual form. Any expression that remains manifests in an abstracted form, where the appearance of the thing is more important than the thing itself. We shouldn't be too harsh on individuals who don't live up to the qualities of their aesthetic group (especially when they're not hurting anyone); poserism is a systemic phenomenon and our main targets should be the capitalist system and its mass media spectacle that alienates us away from authentic expression.

Memory is redundant; it repeats signs so that the city can begin to exist.
