just a general clarification abut the content of the zine but are ships that are canon but canonically abusive (Lloyd/Harumi specifically) going to be allowed in the zine

That’s an excellent question!  I would say that will heavily depend on the individual situation.  Lloyd and Harumi’s relationship was an integral part of the series, but as the truth came to light it was definitively shown to be negative and wasn’t glorified.  We also want to be considerate of those who may be sensitive about that topic, so we definitely don’t want to show anything more extreme than what the show portrayed, and we don’t want to glorify an abusive relationship.

It’s hard to give a specific answer without a specific example, but as a general rule I think we will allow submissions that don’t glorify negative or abusive canon relationships and that also don’t take them to any extreme.  We will definitely be closely reviewing any submissions on this sensitive issue however, so as to be careful about what we portray.  If we do allow any such pieces, they will be along the lines of/representative of what was shown in the main show canon, so you can look to that for a metric of what you may see in the zine.

I hope that helps clarify things!

Hey guys. Mod Jay and I (Mod Bella) wanted to address the controversy circulating around the zine and ourselves. We both agreed we owe you all a fair opportunity to make up your own minds on the matter. (If you would like to read a more in-depth rebuttal from Mod Jay, feel free to check it out here)

Recently we learned about a post going around claiming we (specifically Mod Jay) are “homophobes”, “bigots”, and “anti-diverse”. Many of the screenshots they used were out of context and grossly misrepresent us. Mod Jay and I are Christians and we have conservative values. That said, just because we are does not mean we are anti-diverse or “homophobes”. Those who know us, both on the internet and in real life, know this and will vouch for us.

We have never judged anyone based on their race or sexuality. The majority of the participants in last year's zine identified as LGBTQ+ . We chose people not based on their race, gender, or sexuality, but rather on their talent. We loved the art and stories they created and brought them on board. We are proud to have brought together a diverse group of people with different views from all over the world to create something the whole fandom can enjoy. We wanted to create an escape from the current political climate and just have fun. We never forced our views on anyone nor would we want to.

Some people felt our rules were “homophobic”. This is far from the truth. We wanted to create a zine based on canon content. That includes canon ships. And while there is discourse about canon relationships, at the end of the day they are still canon and no one can dispute that. With non-canon ships it’s more difficult and contentious because there is more speculation there. I (Mod Bella) have been a part of multiple zines that were run by people with many different views. In these zines, the mods used the exact same wording we did pertaining to canon ships and SFW content. They wanted to stick to only canon ships.  In one case the moderators just banned ships outright from the zine to avoid problems. This is not an uncommon rule, no matter the views of the admins.

It has come to our attention that another zine was launched to rival ours. We have no problems with someone doing their own zine and we most certainly do not have a problem with people joining both or just doing theirs, but what is not okay is that this rival zine ripped us off completely. Their timeline, FAQ, layout, theme and info posts are exactly word for word, copy/pasted from ours. This is plagiarism. If people want to create a zine, they can, but at the very least they should take the time to write up their own content and theme and let the people decide what they want. Like we said before, we will not discourage anyone from joining if they want to. There can be multiple zines running simultaneously, but please bear in mind that this zine is plagiarizing us and that is not okay. We do plan on continuing our zine. We are not going to stop just because others are jumping to conclusions without even knowing who we are as people. Our hope is that you make your own conclusions about us and our zine. We love this fandom dearly and hope to create more positive content. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to chat with us off-anon. We would love to talk to you and address anything you would like to know. <3

With much love, -The Ninjago Zine Team

Update!

Hey guys! Just wanted to pop in here to give you all an update on zine applications. We have had some delays but we are working as hard as we can to get them up within the next hour.

Thank you all for your patience!

Anonymous asked:

can artists from Vol. 1 re-apply if they want or no?

Absolutely!  Having been in Volume 1 won’t guarantee you a spot in Volume 2 but it certainly won’t disqualify your entry either :)

Anonymous asked:

Random question but, since this is the main blog for the zine, would you guys be reblogging all the posts with the zine work? (Ex: Artwork) I think it’d be nice to have all work reblogged on one blog!

That is an excellent idea-- we definitely will have to do that!  I actually thought we’d did it last time but apparently not, oops.  Maybe we’ll have to reblog some of the vol1 pieces here as well :)

-Mod Jay

Is there going to be a particular theme for this zine, like how the first was focused on the ninja specifically?

Avatar

Yep!  This time the zine will center around the different Ninjago seasons!  We’ll have art and stories centered on each of the many seasons of Ninjago to celebrate the show’s history.  So basically, there will be content for Rise of the Snakes, Tournament of Elements, Day of the Departed, Hands of Time, etc.  When applications open, you’ll be able to designate which seasons you do or don’t want to create content for!

Anonymous asked:

Is it okay to ask questions through here?

Yeah, definitely!  That’s the biggest reason we have asks open :)

CALLING ALL ARTISTS, WRITERS AND COSPLAYERS!

Want to show your love for Ninjago while also teaming up with others in the fandom? Now you can! We are pleased to announce that the Ninjago zine is back for a second volume!!

What is a zine?

A zine is an event where artists and writers come together in a fandom to create works in honor of a show/movie/book/etc. In this case, we are creating a fan zine based off the animated series, Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu!

Vol. 2— What’s New?

In this volume we’ll be celebrating the many stories of the Ninjago universe.  The zine will contain a section for each season of Ninjago, from the pilot episodes through season 10, and each section will contain a handful of pieces that revolve around its specified season

How does this work?

-This is a Ninjago themed zine that will be a FREE, PDF download upon its release.

-We are looking to have between 50-60 content creators. However, if the zine gains popularity, this number will likely change.

-This is zine is Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu centric- meaning all the content will be will be based off the television series, and not the movie. As is the case, there will be no romantic ships outside of what is canon within the show (as we would like to keep this as discourse-free as possible).

-Also, since Ninjago is a children’s series, the zine will be SFW (Rated PG). Meaning, nothing outside the show’s scope of content will be allowed in this zine.

Application Requirements

  • Artists, writers, and cosplayers are to submit works that are SFW (if someone submits anything NSFW, they will be disqualified)
  • Artists are to submit at least three of their best works showcasing their style. Examples do not have to be Ninjago related.
  • Writers are to submit at least three of their best works showcasing their writing style and characterization. At least one example must be Ninjago related.
  • Cosplayers are to submit at least three of their best works showcasing their photography skills and costume design. At least one example must be Ninjago related.

Schedule

  • May 11th: Applications open
  • June 2th: Applications close
  • June 8-9th:  Acceptance/Rejection emails go out
  • June 10th: Participants announced
  • June 24th: Check-in 1
  • July 15th: Check-in 2
  • August 12th: Check-in 3
  • September 2nd: Check-in 4 (soft deadline)
  • September 9th: Final submissions due (Hard deadline)
  • Zine Release: TBA

If you have any questions feel free to ask or shoot us an email at ninjagozineinfo@gmail.com!

Have a great day!

Reblog!

Hey, I'd like to participate in the zine but I'm not entirely sure how to submit an application. I assume that it should be sent via gmail, but I want to make sure that when May 11th comes I'm submitting it correctly. So how exactly would I submit my application?

Hello!  Applications run through Google Forms, and when the new apps open we’ll be posting a link here on the zine blog so you can easily find them :)
