yeah, I'm still confused about that.

So a theory I've developed that I surprisingly haven't seen anywhere else on the internet (by which I mean here on Tumblr bc I'm not actually anywhere else on the internet these days) is this:

Will Ferrell's character. The Mattel CEO.

This guy. This guy is a Ken who wandered into the real world and stayed there.

just rewatched barbie and it has only confirmed my belief of barbie and ken being aspec

ken only ‘likes’ barbie because that’s what he was basically created/told to do. his whole worth was based on how barbie viewed him

ken and barbie seem more like best friends than anything. i don’t think there was ever anything romantic there, ken was just told to believe there was. he was more desperate for her approval than her ‘love’ in my opinion

and like of course would you think that you like someone if you’re told you do and you’re that desperate for their attention and approval

barbie kind of obviously didn’t like him romantically from the start, which she’s aware of but doesn’t express to ken until the end

and honestly, her telling ken freed both of them from the expectations they were burdened by

aroace barbie and ace ken are real to ME

also i fully believe allan and ken start dating after everything settles down

Also, props to Allan???

He's a doll most people have never heard of. He got discontinued forever ago cause he was perceived as gay by consumers and they didn't like that.

But I love that he had an actual role in Barbie. He was very queer coded, yeah, but he didn't like when all the Kens turned to Patriarchy. He was so uncomfortable that he wanted to abandon Barbieland all together. He knew it was wrong.

And then he helped the Barbies get themselves back. He had a pink jumpsuit and sunglasses and went out all stealthy to get the Barbies in the van. He even voted at the end to keep the constitution the way it was.

Big Allan fan over here.

The realest part of the Barbie Movie was when Barbie was like "okay but what if this hurts his feelings? what if this makes him sad? :(" after Ken stole her house, stole her car, and stole her agency, because as a woman you still have to second guess everything you do on the assessment of whether it might hurt a man's feelings.

And then that apprehension was proven right one million times over by the entire Conservative Internet Manosphere pissing and shitting and screaming themselves hoarse over Barbie daring to hurt a man's feelings.

Between Ryan Gosling Ken and Benoit Blanc I'm starting to think that it's some sort of animal abuse to keep casting big name actors in stoic macho manly man rolls instead of giving them goofy little guys to play. Like look at them their coats are shiny, they seem so much more lively and energetic. We need to make sure all actors have enough goofy little guys to play before peta gets involved.
