I’m Percy, They/them and He/him, nonbinary and queer as heck. I am an adult and I blog about art, science, cartoons, tabletop rpgs, and LGBTQIA+ stuff. My aesthetic ideal is to look at all times like a gay forest wizard

I made a podcast!

Ezmeralda Sinclair is always running from something. Marked by curses and weighted down by debts, they crave nothing more than freedom and the chance to disappear. When the missing continent of Avalon returns after several centuries spent not existing Ezmeralda pins all their hopes on this fabled place. Will they find what they’re looking for? Or does something else await them there?

So a free Battletech queer fanzine launched a pride anthology on June 1

This has predictably caused a spat in a fandom as old as Battletech’s is.

This has led to the creation of anofficial battletech subreddit, which the community and marketing director of CGL made a post on that asserted ‘that ‘Battletech is for everyone.’ The freelancer who wrote for the fanzine, Russell Zimmerman, is taking the lead on a mod team for it. So that’s interesting

So the Battletech subreddit unlocked and posted an official statement. It’s long, it’s meandering, it’s “apologising” aaaaaaaaand

… in the name of making “a welcoming place for everyone, members of the LGBTQ community included”, they are doubling down and still banning pride flag mechs, in a subreddit that’s like 60% people posting their custom painted OC lance. (It also came to light that in the past, any pride painted mechs were deleted by the mods, but the mods had left up, and even defended, Nazi paint schemes)

The response to the “apology” has been… interesting.

So essentially, to recap:

  1. An LGBT fanzine for Battletech, with support in the form of three official writers either having one story in it, or working on the introduction, is published for free
  2. The fan-run Battletech Reddit’s anti-LGBT moderators deleted the announcement post on the subreddit, under the pretext of it being “not Battletech related” for having real world flags on the mech
  3. The IP holder promotes the fanzine on Facebook and other social media
  4. The fan subreddit locks itself, being flooded by controversy, due to “brigading”
  5. The IP holder steps in, creates its own subreddit which explicitly is an inclusive space for all fans, within 24 hours
  6. The fan subreddit unlocks, and then doubles down on the decision
  7. Essentially none of the vocal members of the community support this decision and are going “shame! Shame!”

we'll talk about cis men having fragile egos but tbh! patriarchal gender roles gives everyone fragile egos when it comes to gender because its inherently unhealthy. it ties the very concept of self to gender & then makes gender something one can easily fail at. cis women who feel attacked when told they hurt someone (because they feel like their role as a caretaker is being threatened) and cis women who get angry at gender neutral medical language (because the patriarchy values the idea that womanhood & pregnancy (& everything related to it) are synonymous) are behaving in the same way men who feel attacked when their masculinity is threatened. trans people will also do this too, sometimes overcompensating because we have to fight ten times as hard to not be seen as failures by default. patriarchal gender is always fragile and quick to lash out because the patriarchy survives on fear and specifically the fear of losing one's self via gender failure (& the material punishments that come with that). hope this helps

what makes cis men's gender ego fragility especially noticable is that they often have the material power to cause systemic harm to others when they feel like their ego is threatened. but that does not mean that only they have fragile gender egos or that others cannot also cause harm because of it. sometimes it's interpersonal/lateral but especially cis women in positions of power (especially over trans people but also children) can also cause systemic harm.

Across the spiderverse said “oh you guys liked the experimental animation style of the last movie? bet” and cranked it up to ten billion and i thank them for that

Had a dream that I was reading a book called The Tiger, about a living city that slowly digested its inhabitants. The title annoyed me because the city was clearly not an ambush predator, but a passive hunter like a jellyfish or sundew. No one knew they were being digested—life in the city just wore them down little by little, and fate always seemed to conspire to keep them there. The book was ambiguous about whether the forces of economic instability and social injustice were supernatural qualities “the tiger” generated to subdue prey or natural occurrences that had attracted “the tiger” to settle in that city as its hunting ground.

wait fuck this was an ABBA dream wasn’t it

The concept of a hard-hitting surreal political horror novel based on an ABBA song is great. Thank you brain keep up the good work.

A wizard that makes enchanted mugs to infinitely refill with coffee. He sells them at magical craft fairs and through this he found that many wizards and magical peoples will pay extra for the cashew milk feature, even though it requires capturing the spirit of a cashew elemental.

does this hypothetical wizard also provide a similar dairy milk feature that captures the spirit of a cow¿

That’s the weird thing, any other milk option, cow milk, goat milk, soy or almond, or any other kind can be achieved “ethically”. Something about the alchemical state of cashews just requires imprisoning a cashew elemental.
