But it does.

It does… one at a time.  It’d be useful to be able to select more than one. G&T but not higher, M&E only, everything but E for those who just don’t like smut. (btw I just checked and there is none of the exclusion filters showing on the search page at least in my computer)

AO3 does ‘and’ filters.

You don’t filter for M&E. You filter for not the other stuff.

I have never seen so many users clearly baffled by and too skittish to push buttons/toggles that are very clearly meant to be used.

If a trusted website has a button and you don’t immediately know or understand what it does, push it. Check out every drop down, every link, every configuration imaginable. Be adventurous. Fuck around and find out. If it breaks the website, they shouldn’t have had that button in the first place. Not on you. Indulge your curiosity instead of complaining it doesn’t do something it absolutely does if you poke around a little.

You’re not going to get a bad grade in filtering by using interface features from AO3, I promise.

Look, there are library systems that don’t have filters as good as AO3. You have to learn how to use Boolean operators (AND OR NOT) and construct a proper query to exclude in several academic databases, and AO3 just performs “NOT” for you by clicking a button.

Do you know how many grad students would love to have the kind of power you have with AO3 in filters?

Ao3 filters are amazing. You can filter out ratings, you can filter out characters or pairings, you can filter out specific tags (as long as it’s an official tag)! (Type it in under “other tags to exclude”)

This is why the antis complaining about seeing content they don’t like on Ao3 is so frustrating. If something squicks you out, filter it, and you never have to see it again! Voila! Or even if it is just something you don’t like. I have High School AUs filtered out because I just don’t like them! It’s an amazing system and makes it so easy to curate your experience.

Sadly Ao3 search system is dropped by one huge problem . The fact that it allows practically endless tags which makes it a nightmare to search for fics since attention seeking hacks love tagging every single character and pairings even if they are barely mentioned in their work . We desperately need primary and secondary tags and the ability to filter them out . And we absolutely need the ability to block authors so they don’t appear in our searches

So D&D black dragons are supposed to live in swamps, right? Pretty amphibious, live in swamps, lair in...

caves. With a main entrance and a back entrance.

In swamps.

I really have trouble with the idea that there's these dragon-sized caves in an area with such a high water table, y'know? We have to go through miles of swamp to reach this lair, it's not one little boggy place in a mountain valley otherwise filled with nice caves. And the cave has to have two entrances, too? I can believe in dragons, but not this geology.

So... maybe it's not geology. Because a lair in a marshy place with exacting design specifications sounds a lot like a totally natural thing --

A beaver lodge.

So now I have this new image of black dragons industriously gnawing down giant trees to construct their mighty swamp lairs, and I am so much happier.

He's building his lodge.

To anyone worried about this eliminating the fear factor, don't worry; instead, imagine a lair full of sharp spikes formed from logs. Imagine previous, less fortunate treasure-hunters, dragonslayers, etc. being impaled on those spikes for your party to see.

That's brilliant! I'd done a dragon with shrike behavior in my game before, but it was a red dragon. I had the wrong species. We do know that black dragons like to let their food decompose a bit before tucking in. So they put in on a meat hook for a while.

i figured they were burrows dug into the wet ground, with submerged entrances and the central lair soupy with mud. i still like this, but i like the beaver dam idea more, so i think i will combine them.

how about: black dragons dig a mud burrow when they're small enough to need to hide, and live like salamanders or frogs. but as they get bigger, they start reinforcing the burrow with branches, then logs, as they expand it. piling brush and mud on top, maybe constructing mazelike branch tunnels to stash both food and treasure.

imagine raiding such a lair, chest deep in mud, slimy moss-hung branches spiking out of the walls. the reek of the dragon's larder choking you. you've already killed the adult dragon, but from somewhere in this soggy deathtrap, you can hear a sound like baby crocodiles...

Does this also imply that a black dragon might make a swampy area by damming up a river if it can't find a suitable one?

Imagining a party being called in to relocate a dragon that dammed a local river, flooding surrounding fields and villages.

what a hook! i love it! dragons could be such a force for landscape rearrangement, but i've never actually seen that be the problem in a campaign.

I’m paying to force seven thousand strangers to see a photo of my late husband having fun with his dog. Tumblr Blaze is totally worth it. XD

Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. ❤️

Paid for seven thousand, the other 100k was free

I just made a post about the end of pride month. It's July now, so happy disability pride month to my fellow disabled people!

Friendly reminders to able bodied people

  • Don't tell disabled people how to refer to themselves
  • Listen to them when and how they refer to their disabilities
  • You don't need to know why someone is disabled
  • This includes if they have a service dog, you may ask what tasks the dog performs if you are a business owner. Not what disabilities they have.
  • Also, in the US there are no "service dog cards/papers"
  • It's illegal to refuse service to someone because of a disability
  • If you know someone who is disabled questions are fine as long as you are respectful. We love to educate.
  • Slurs are never acceptable if they don't apply to you (you wouldn't use a racial slur don't use one about disabilities either)
  • Don't make jokes based around disabled people stereotypes. It's not funny.
  • Not all disabilities are visible!
  • I know you mean well but you do not know what it feels like, please do not tell disabled people you do.
  • When we say we are tired and you are also tired, we do not mean the same thing.
  • Abilism isn't funny, it causes so much harm and discrimination please don't be abilist.

Reminders for my fellow disabled people

  • You are valid no matter what.
  • You are allowed to have good days and still be disabled.
  • You are allowed to have bad days and need extra help or more time to rest.
  • With that you are allowed to take days to rest.
  • You know your limits, please follow them and don't harm yourself.
  • You are not an inconvenience!
  • Please remember to take your meds, they are important
  • Don't stop taking your meds without consulting with a doctor (unless they are doing horrible things, even then please contact your provider)
  • Also doctors who don't listen suck, we've all been there and we feel you.
  • You are not faking for attention no matter how much your brain tells you that
  • Sometimes you can't always look on the bright side. It's okay to recognize the negative as long as you don't let that take over.
  • Asking for help is good and doesn't bother people. And if it does those aren't people you should have in your life.
  • If a mobility aid will help you then use whatever will help you
  • Your problems are "bad enough" and valid. Don't compare yourself to other people and if you need help then get it.
  • You do not need to be absolutely horrible to get help.
  • If your diagnosis came as relief that is perfectly fine, knowing there's a cause for your problem and now having ways to manage it is wonderful.
  • If your diagnosis did not come as a relief that is perfectly fine as well. It's terrifying and soul crushing sometimes getting diagnosed and realizing you're going to deal with this forever. You're not alone.
  • You know your body better than anyone else. Listen to yourself and what your body needs.
  • You got this, you aren't alone. Mental and physical disabilities suck but be proud of them.
  • You live with them everyday and you're still here, you're still fighting. You're so strong.

They are not as high-profile as the WGA, but I would like to bring everyone's attention to the imminent strike action by thousands of hotel workers in Los Angeles. They are set to go on strike tomorrow, July 1st, 2023.

More than 15,000 hotel workers are seeking higher pay, better benefits, and working conditions. This includes an across-the-board $5 an hour raise, as well as affordable healthcare and better pensions. They also are seeking a ban on the use of E-Verify, which is used to deny employment to undocumented workers and workers involved with the criminal justice system. You can follow what is happening at their Twitter.

some of my biggest insecurities only became insecurities after my mother pointed them out to me and turned my characteristics into flaws. parents, fucking watch what you say to your kids.

I know this post is meant for women, but this.

This post is for everyone actually, no worries. Boys and other genders can definitely experience what I’m talking about in my op.

pirates of the caribbean really introduced an eldritch octopus man who kills indiscriminately and torments the dead as their poster villain and then you watch the movies and it's like, "oh no, actually the worst villain in this series is a small white british man who functions as the herald of capitalism" and that was very very brave of them
