[seeing some European dipass eyeing up the bucket behind me labeled "Indigenous folklore" greedily] My folklore is too strong for you, colonizer. My folklore would kill you, colonizer. You cannot handle my folklore.

hi your tags are absolutely 100% correct! if you want to read about this there is a really cool book called "playing indian" by phil deloria that talks about this exact phenomenon!

By capitalism and "progress" yes, but I would argue the biggest reason is white supremacy. Cause the thing about it is that to be white is to not really be anything else. Because to identify as anything other than a White American was to invite losing the white privilege.

Over and over, people in my family history had an identity, but that identity marked them as an immigrant. And all the opportunities and privilege of whiteness was right there. All they had to do was not let people know they were immigrants.

And so I don't speak German. Nor does my family have Soda Bread. The folklore and food and values and Culture are gone and all I inherited was whiteness. And yeah, world's tiniest violin, but sometimes I mourn it. And I wonder what it must be like, to inherit something other than cruelty.

hey yall. op here. reblog this version.
