So I’ve been thoroughly enjoying @jadesabre301‘s updates about her adventures in Skyrim, and the blossoming romance between her dovahkiin, Brittany, and stoic mercenary, Stenvar. And it made me think of my own, far less successful, interactions with Skyrim’s companions.
So I start the game, I pick up Lydia in Dragonsreach, and off we go questing. I join the thieves’ guild, I help the Imperials because Ulfric seems like an asshole, I buy a house in Riften. But then at some point, Lydia dies - AND I DON’T NOTICE!
And the thing is, I’m one of those obsessive people who has like... 20+ save slots that I cycle through. When I save over a save slot, it’s from MANY hours earlier. Lydia was dead in every single one of my saves. She had died HOURS if not DAYS before I’d noticed.
I felt so guilty about what I’d done that I played the rest of the game without ever picking up another companion, for fear that they would meet the same fate. I walked from the stormy shores of the Ghost Sea to the frigid peaks of the druadach mountains with only my loneliness for company, forever in penance for my crime.
Anyway - congrats, Jade, on the blessed event of this wedding. I wish Brittany and Stenvar a long and happy life.
