ungrounding techniques. what do you not see. what don't you hear. close your eyes and imagine something really scary in front of you. spin around until you are dizzy then scroll on your phone for 3 hours straight.

i love how delusional some articles of clothing are, like you read the tag and its like “hand wash only/tumble dry on low” son you are a cotton tshirt. youre going in the warsh and whatever happens in there is in gods hands

HEY ARTISTS!

Do you design a lot of characters living in not-modern eras and you’re tired of combing through google for the perfect outfit references? Well I got good news for you kiddo, this website has you covered! Originally @modmad made a post about it, but her link stopped working and I managed to fix it, so here’s a new post. Basically, this is a costume rental website for plays and stage shows and what not, they have outfits for several different decades from medieval to the 1980s. LOOK AT THIS SELECTION:

OPEN ANY CATEGORY AND OH LORDY–

There’s a lot of really specific stuff in here, I design a lot of 1930s characters for my ask blog and with more chapters on the way for the game it belongs to I’m gonna be designing more, and this website is going to be an invaluable reference. I hope this can be useful to my other fellow artists as well! :)

HELL YEAH !!!

OMG

For some reason, it never occurred to me that Project Gutenberg would have public domain old cookbooks. This is BRILLIANT. There’s a 1953 cranberry recipe pamphlet and a suffrage cookbook from 1915 and a translation of Apicus’s guide to food in Imperial Rome and a whole bunch of other fascinating old cookbooks, many pre-1800. Treasure trove!

I love you for sharing this!!!

For more old cookbooks, Michigan State University has 76 of their historical cookbooks scanned and searchable at Feeding America: The Historic American Cookbook Project.

For even older recipes, check out Gode Cookery.  They list medieval and Renaissance cooking instructions and translate the recipes for you into measurable amounts and all.

I have have have to mention Miss Leslie. I learned so much about cooking from that book, even if a lot of it is outdated.

Also, Forme of Cury is great fun, if you can muddle through the Middle English (Gode Cookery has translations and adaptions of some of the recipes from this).

I’ll always take an opportunity to remind people of Barkham Burroughs’ Encyclopaedia of Astounding Facts and Useful Information, which also contains recipes

Writing Research & Google

Google is your friend when it comes to writing research. You can become even better friends when you use these tips to focus your search results!

See chart above (source: ultralinx) or the transcribe below:

Quotation Marks - Use quotes to search for an exact word or set of words.

Example: “To be or not to be”

Dashes - Put a dash before a word that you want to exclude in your search

Example: jaguar -animal

Tilde - Use a tilde before a term to include results with its synonyms

Example: Christmas ~desserts

Site:Query - Search within a specific web page

Example: site:nytimes.com

Link:Query - Search for sites that link to a specified site url

Example: link:creattica.com

Two Periods - Use two periods between two numbers to express range of things like dates, measurements, and prices

Example: movies 1950..1970

Related:Query - Use to find sites that are related to the specified site.

Example: related:appstorm.net

Also don’t forget that these can be combined. For example if you want to exclude a specific site, you can do a search such as:

“Charles de Lint” “Some Place To Be Flying” cover -site:kobo.com

(Why that one specifically? Because google image search results will show that Kobo has a large cover image available and they lie. It’s always a small to medium image. Always.)

Speaking of, don’t forget the “Tools” drop-downs just beneath the search entry box, which gives you a lot of tab-relevant searches and sorting options you can use.

Hey American voters! 🇺🇸

Guess what?!!

🚨 It’s time to start worrying about the 2022 and 2024 elections. 🚨

(Yeah. We really gotta do this. It's... not looking great.)

Long story short:

So what’s the worst case scenario?

...Well, let’s start with the realistic scenario.

  • Republicans are likely to take back the House in 2022. They are possibly capable of doing it through gerrymandering alone. Is it possible for Democrats to keep the House? Yes, but it will take a huge effort.
  • Republicans could also win back the Senate since it's currently 50-50 and Democrats only have a narrow majority because we won the presidency.
  • Even if Republicans only win back the House, the Biden administration would legislatively accomplish very little from 2022-2024. Republicans would have the power to impeach Biden for no reason and cause another constitutional crisis, enable gerrymandering and voter suppression laws, and block any Democratic priorities from becoming law (gun control, climate change, and healthcare are just a few things that would be off the table entirely).

Then comes 2024.

If Republicans win back or maintain control of Congress in 2024, this could set up an even more dangerous scenario:

  • The House has the power to choose the president if Congress does not award 270 electoral votes to either candidate.
  • How could that happen? Well, those "Stop the Steal" Republican election officials in swing states could refuse to certify the election, claiming fraud, and a close election could end up with neither candidate getting enough electoral votes. House Republicans could literally choose the next president without any input from voters and effectively end American democracy as we know it.
  • Because you know that Republicans will never let go of that power once they have it.

This is not far-fetched.

This is a realistic, highly likely scenario that will happen if we don’t do something to prevent it. Journalists and election experts are trying to sound the alarm, and we should listen:

The only way to prevent this from becoming reality is to fight like hell against it. And I know we just did that in 2018 and 2020. But this fight isn't over until we restore and protect our democracy.

This isn’t about how much you like Biden & Harris, or even if you’re a Democrat in general. It’s about saving democracy in America.

What can we do about it?

Unfortunately, it’s going to be an uphill battle. But if we all engage in this fight, then we can make a difference.

TLDR, we need to raise awareness about the threat to democracy, encourage Democrats to end the filibuster and pass H.R.1 immediately, and organize, organize, organize to get voters back out there in 2022 and 2024.

Specific ways to help & additional resources below the cut.

I live in India. If any of us needs medical attention if infected, I'm quite sure we won't survive. Delhi is a large capital city, MP's have to tweet and beg to get medical attention for their loved ones. We have the record for highest single day infections.

This video by the BBC India bureau is pretty distressing and summarises the issue quite effectively: supplies, infrastructure, vaccines.

A crowdsourced list of fundraisers to donate (<FF> for campaigns that accept foreign funds, I'm also matching donations upto Rs 20000, DM)

Unfortunately, money will not solve all of India's problems. This is the activism I'd encourage you to pursue if you're not Indian:

1. The United States refuses to lift a export raw material ban on vaccine products even temporarily. Note that India exported 60 million doses of Astra Zeneca abroad before this crisis. Ban lifted, aid offered. Next step: address 3.

I call all of this genocidal colonialism by another name. Please organise. India is the producer of vaccines and pharma that is intended to go to middle and low income countries, as long as the crisis continues here, it will have knock on effects in South America and Africa. The virus mutating through 1 billion people will get deadlier and find you too, so it's probably in your self interest.

Countrywise:

  1. If you live in the US: find your reps here & email them. Send “sign PRJXNQ“ to ResistBot on Twitter (via DM), Facebook Messenger, or text message at 50409 to send a letter about this to your representatives in Congress! (thanks @absurdlyuseless)
  2. If you live in Australia: find your reps here & email them
  3. If you live in Canada: find your reps here & email them
  4. If you live in the UK: petition to sign (on 500/10000 signatures)
  5. If you are a citizen of the EU: (thanks @kureha-fujishima) Sign this initiative before 1/05/2022, more details here

I'll update with resources for more countries as I find them. Generally calls work better than emails, so do try calling your representative directly if you can.
