You people realize the body positivity movement is literally a political movement right. Like it’s a movement that was started to improve the rights of fat people and stop discrimination against fat people. You realize that. It’s not a tea party where everyone just compliments everyone else on their looks.

One time I was teaching undergrads and we were talking about how you can even define what is “fair” in employment. And I was explaining how there have been court cases about employers forcing their employees to wear makeup or do their hair/nails, etc, so of course we end up talking about flight attendants. And my students, predictably, are like, “Well ok but in the case of flight attendants, being good looking is literally just part of the job description.” So I point out how applying this principle universally would basically make it so that any employer could refuse to hire someone who was fat or ugly. And That One Kid was like, “Well if it affects the business’s ability to make money, I mean, that’s just smart.” And so I say, “Yes, that is certainly what a capitalist would say. But don’t you think that allowing that capitalist interest to take precedence would lead to a world in which it’s legally permissible to refuse to hire someone just because they’re fat or ugly? Basically legalizing discrimination and blocking access to work and livelihood?” And this motherfucker is like, “Well, yeah. 💁🏻”

When I tell you I almost had to leave…I was full-body shaking and afterward, my queer students came up and were like, “omg are you okay?”

So yeah, it’s fucking political. What you think is about personal aesthetic preference is actually oppressing huge groups of people, so.

This is a fascinating example because I actually am a flight attendant, and no the fuck it isn’t a part of my job description to “be good looking.” It hasn’t been since the 60s. We’re literally first responders. Should your ER nurse have to wear makeup in order to save your life?

it ok to not be ready

Please spread this shit like wildfire. People go on and sit through the whole experience and they’re uncomfortable because they just want to please their partner and they don’t tell them that they want to stop because they are not ready. It’s okay not to be ready.

notice here that consent is revoked without ever saying no and consent goes so far beyond yes/no!!!!!!

It is ok to say no

Y'all know that individual health behaviors - choices around nutrition, exercise, smoking, etc. - only account for about 25% of a person’s health status? The determinants of health are largely social: income and education level, the safety of one’s physical environment (e.g. working conditions, clean water), and degree of social support. Trauma is far worse for health than fast food.

It’s tempting to subscribe to a just world theory, where good things happen to good people (or people who make good decisions), and problems befall problem people, but that just isn’t the world we live in.

Most sick people have spent their lives fighting against oppressive circumstances. They don’t invite illness and hardship with their bad decisions, they are miracles of survival in a sociopolitical environment that’s hostile to their very existence.

You are a miracle of survival.

Here’s something to keep in your back pocket for encouragement and validation (not to mention as handy ammunition when someone starts digging in about lifestyle changes).

we could provide electricity to everyone on earth if we put tom cruise on a hamster wheel and told him to go crazy with it. but the church of scientology won’t let us do that

It’s called “environmental amnesia” and it’s an actual issue environmentalists discuss how to combat. The climate crisis makes it more widespread but it’s been something that’s happening for generations. The story of The Lorax describes it beautifully. The idea that what you remember is what you consider normal, but if the changes happen slowly over generations, you don’t see how large they are because you don’t personally remember them being very different, even if you were told stories about it.

That feeling where you go " didn't we used to have four seasons? It wasn't this hot when I was a kid was it??" And then you have to figure out if it's just that you're getting older. And then it turns out no the entire planet is falling apart.

I want to say that with trans folk now being at risk of the fucking death sentence in Florida....

The time for community is Now. The time to start planning and organizing how to get our rights back is NOW. bring it up at your local LGBT craft events or book club or support group or whatever. Tell your friends. Spread the word. And maybe see which ones will have the safety and resources you'll need should a Lavender Hunt happen in your area.

And on the scarier end of reality....

This is fucking terrifying. Lots of people are at risk. Personally, I'm terrified this rhetoric will spread much like Trumpism did. I'm scared for my gf and I'm fucking scared for myself because we know historically that it isn't just trans folk on HRT or drag performers that they go after.

And you have every right to do whatever you need to protect yourself.

I'm not going to shame folks who quit HRT, who take the rainbows out of their bio, the people who start saying partner instead of revealing a gender, or anyone else taking a few steps towards the safety that the closet provides. WE shouldn't.

I fucking love you. And we'll be okay as long as we're together, okay?

We keep us safe

I looked up the lavender scare last night and was sadly unsurprised to see that the last time the community came together...was a lavender scare.

Pride was a riot because the government started doing to us then what Florida is doing to us now. It was triggered when a man was fired from his job on grounds of being gay and tried to take it to court.

This is why we have pride. This is why "think of the children" is/was an awful rhetoric to push at leather daddies and drag queens. It's not just a bad opinion or stupid discourse, it's a talking point for the right wing to justify fucking kill us.

It was never "just discourse" it was a right wing psyop to cripple us from coming together to fight against attacks just like this.

Your enemies aren't other queer people with labels you don't like. Those are your allies. Because you know who else doesn't like them?

Nazis.

And they don't like you either even if you have a "normal" queer identity and you don't make it "your whole personality" or whatever.

You're both still queer. And that's all they care about. Trying to placate bigots wont save you. Quit playing the part of "acceptable gay" and throwing everyone else under the bus.

Besides, that they WERE thinking of the children when they started those riots dressed in stuff that makes you squirm. They were thinking of You. Of your life. Your children. Queer children.

  • Broke: think of the children
  • Woke: think of where you'd be right now if Drag queens and leather daddies weren't there to throw that first brick. Think about about all the other people currently at risk of being killed through the Same Exact method that you had the privilege of escaping, precisely because of the people you can't stand.

Hey y'all please reblog this version so people can see the article and explanation, there are a few confused people only seeing earlier versions that dont explain the connection/threat because it doesn't have the article.

An interstate rainbow railroad.

For those unaware that's this. It's been done before.

A lot of people are scared. And I really, really want you to know that the riots started because someone scared asked for help and people answered

It wasn't organized. It just happened. People decided to risk it at a moments notice.

This is ours. And we've done it before.

Stormé Delariverie, the Stonewall Lesbian that triggered it all.

And everyone who was there for her.

Were just like us

So how do we do this?

I played that level in Mario Kart but that was it. I wanna be there for you, we all do, how do we do that?

I bet one of us could call and just ask. Who doesn't have anxiety. Oh wait it's posted on their site :)

Kinda reads like a How To 👀

Find your niche and offer it.

People need help, you figure out how/who can, and then you follow through.

  • Can you drive
  • have gas money
  • have extra food
  • Got some clothes or meds
  • An extra bed or couch
  • maybe even an extra property or hotel room to spare?
  • Do you have money for those things?
  • maybe you're able to connect people with needs to people who can help?
  • can you share/spread posts asking for help?
  • Or may you can just make them some tea while the host of the house is out cuz they don't want to be alone in a new place
  • Maybe you keep up morale by just being hopeful
  • can you somehow show that there are people who are taking steps to materially care for and support trans and other lgbta people in Florida?

What can You do?

Because you are not nearly as powerless as they want you to believe, especially with some help.

I remember being in first grade and this white boy asked me why I wear "normal" clothes if I'm Indian and don't Indians only wear feathers? So yes I do think first graders need more awareness about race

Also Sesame Street was made by a bunch of hippies that loved puppets and educators that were trying to reach in-city kids (particularly kids of color) who didn't have access to good education resources.

Sesame Street has specifically addressed racism and other forms of socially oppressive orders since the beginning. Once again Rave Dubin is a moron.

I know there's always a lot of discussion around how Fight Club is social commentary about toxic masculinity but I think it's extremely important to remember that it's also about anti-capitalism, class consciousness, and a massive critique on consumer culture

extremely important

#ACAB now. ACAB forever.

Defund the police. Communities can police themselves with the resources.

This headline is wild to think about. Could you imagine your field of work being labeled the leading cause of death in the entire fucking country and not having to worry about being unemployed by weeks end? I doubt any pig who reads this is even remotely worried about their job. It's fucking insane.

generational difference between people who learnt the word kin on tiktok and think it is a fun way of saying u identify somewhat with a character VS people who learnt the word kin on tumblr where people would threaten each other about kin lists because they genuinely believed they were a manifested reincarnation of karkat homestuck

genuinely people would have tiered lists of kins, from it's okay to follow me if you kin this, to never interact w me if any of your mutuals are kin w this because this is literally me

people were kinblocking like it was the beaches of fucking normandy
