Just to remind everyone there’s a character in Twilight who’s native, living on a reservation, and is the leader of a pack of ‘noble werewolves.’ At one point in a blind rage he turns into a wolf and mutilates his wife. They remain married and this serves as a lesson that we can hurt the ones we love.
First Nations women are physically abused at disproportionately high rates in the United States. Where in hell did any editor get off in allowing this to be a core character and a core scene in a YA book.

Unpopular opinion but even if indigenous communities had 100% access to other food sources, they should still be able to continue with their traditional and sustainable hunting practices.
Indigenous people shouldn’t be expected to abandon their cultures’ traditions just because outsiders have decided that those traditions are “wrong” or that there’s better options.

Racism is a hell of a drug. Poor & working class whites have always blamed minorities for their ills but this year it's clear that rich whites are the ones fucking them over. Besides the college admission thing this year it was also revealed that the opioid epidemic they blamed Mexicans for was engineered by the rich Sackler family(owners of Perdue Pharma). LBJ was right, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket"

So while I agree with people who say no one is born racist, it remains a powerful system that we’re immediately born into. It’s like being born into air: you take it in as soon as you breathe. It’s not a cold that you can get over. There is no anti-racist certification class. It’s a set of socioeconomic traps and cultural values that are fired up every time we interact with the world. It is a thing you have to keep scooping out of the boat of your life to keep from drowning in it. I know it’s hard work, but it’s the price you pay for owning everything.”
