My art always focuses on the perspective of the young black girl and all she experiences growing up. Ok so I’ve been playing for 18 years and i’m a string teacher. Can i just say how IMPORTANT it is for young kids to see a BLACK, MALE-PRESENTING PERSON playing, nae, SHREDDING on a violin? I’ve know maybe 5 black people who played stringed instruments throughout my schooling and teaching (predumably because i’m an upper middle class white woman). In districts where the population is predominantly black, funding is always low, so the instruments are crappy. Kids quit, or the program is dismantled. I’ve seen very few professional string players who are black.
Obviously there are black string players. We just don’t see them because they “don’t look like” string players.
This person is the real deal. They were clearly trained, and seems to have some fiddle training as well. How cool is that?

Ya know i like to usually keep my page pretty lighthearted. But life just aint been that recently. A couple weeks ago, i made the decision to run away from toxic family. Lived out of a hotel for a week, now in the guest room at a friends’ apartment until i can get on my feet. And it seems like the universe keeps slowing that process down. I dont have a car, so ubering/lyft to work is my only choice in this town wih poor public transportation. Working two jobs to avoid falling behind on bills. Then my parents that i forgot had access to my old account got in and took that money out in an attempt to starve me back home. I got a new bank acocunt almost three weeks ago, and they have still failed to send me an atm card or give me a working acocunt number to log in online s i have no access to money cming in while the bills and late fees are piling up. My mental health is deteriorating and its effecting my job and social life. I dont really like just asking folks for help because i know you all are struggling and trying just like me if not harder. But if you can spare anything to help me stay alive until the bank and money get sorted out. Id truly and deeply appreciate that. My cash app is $cptkirk94.
