I'm really proud of this little doodle☺️
Help me ob-gyn kenobi, you’re my only hope.
She needed more midwife-clorians.
I really hope everyone reblogging this followed the link and read the article, because it’s larger point is really good “Reproductive health and childbirth is a crutch, and Lucas gets away with it because his audience accepts that these things are mysterious and cannot be intervened with the way that that the loss of limbs can be remedied with robot prosthetics, or the way Luke can be rescued from near-death on Hoth by being submerged in a bacta tank. Having babies is worse than being mauled by a wampa ice creature or being chopped up by lightsabers and falling into a river of lava. Lucas can write a world like that, and worse, the audience will accept it. But uteruses aren’t made of malignant magic. Women’s bodies are real physical things that can be studied and understood and when necessary, cured. ”
IDK about everyone else, but I’ve actually been certified as a doula and childbirth educator and worked in women’s health media for most of a decade. All points valid, but “Help me OB-GYN Kenobi” broke me.
And this is how you can tell a story was written by men because pre-natal healthcare never even occurred to the writer. Women’s insides are a mysterious and magical place that no man either can fathom, or just just not want to think about, so in stories like this they just handwave it away as” dying in childbirth”.
Help me, OB-GYN Kenobi.
I love how everyone’s like YES ALL POINTS VALID
But
to be fair, it is a brilliantly executed pun
If not now, when?
We in Labor aren’t hurting our industry. We’re fighting to save it from predatory sociopaths who will gleefully watch people lose their homes and go hungry, rather than release 2% of their grotesque wealth to ensure a healthy industry for everyone.
In 1960, SAG and WGA struck to force management to adapt to the new technology of television. Without that strike and the agreement it birthed, residual use payments would not exist. Wil Wheaton and Gates McFadden support SAG-AFTRA and WGA at Paramount Studios My parents forced me to be a child actor, and stole nearly all of my salary from my entire childhood. My Star Trek residuals were not…

I’ve seen some people respond to governments restricting trans affirming care for autistic people with statements like “autistic people have higher IQs” and “I’m autistic and I have a biology degree” and I’d just like to say that autistic trans people with low IQs and no degrees also deserve to medically transition should they choose to do so.
I never noticed this before, but look at John! Look at his hand. Look at the way he looks up, double-checking that Harold won’t turn back around at any moment and catch him doing this. Look at how incredibly gently he caresses the chair, where Harold’s shoulder just was (it’s probably still warm from Harold sitting there), and look at that thumb caress in the end. He’s probably pretending it’s Harold, pretending he’s allowed to touch him this gently, with so much affection.
John, your pining is showing.
“Jurassic park” except it’s realistic and they can’t clone anything older than 1 million years because dna degradation so it’s a bunch of recently extinct birds brought back to life and yet the same amount of chaos carnage and destruction occurs as well as the same amount of wonder because Irony
Remember this park would have, among other things:
- moas
- elephant birds
- dodos & Rodrigues solitaire
- terror birds
- mihirungs
- adzebills
- Sylviornithidae
- great auk
- mobs of passenger pigeons
- moa-nalo
- mole ducks (reverse platypus)
- giant swan
- giant marabou-style storks
- club-winged ibises
- teratorns
- giant Caribbean hawks
- stilt owls, including giant ones
- and so many many passerines
To everyone pointing out Haast’s Eagle: i legitimately thought I had put that in the list. Of course that would be in this. It and terror birds are the primary eaters of humans in this scenario
To the people suggesting we add mammals: no. Birds only. Dinosaurs only. I’m trying to prove a point.
some of the scenes I had in mind:
- instead of being in awe at brachiosaurus, Elephant Birds
- getting mobbed by a flock of passerines a la hitchcock's "The Birds"
- kitchen scene, but terror birds. honestly just replace every raptor scene with terror birds and you have the idea.
- "must go faster" but the thing chasing them is Haast's Eagle
- giant swan decides the humans are a problem. stalks the humans. every time you think you're safe, suddenly you hear in the distance...... HONK
- humans being horrified by the teratorns tearing into their fallen comrades
- they're. uh. they're flocking this way. the flock is passenger pigeons. they darken the night sky. you can't see anything. giving haast's eagle the chance to attack (but it attacks a moa)
- okay so like yeah haast's eagle is clearly my trex replacement and terror birds are my raptor replacement and elephant birds are my brachiosaurus replacement but other than that I'm flexible
- nedry makes fun of the clubbed ibis. proceeds to get clubbed to death.
- a dodo follows them around and its cute cause why not
- someone gets trampled by a herd of moas
- someone gets pecked to death by the giant marabou stork thing - maybe they got too close, maybe they underestimated the stork, something
- there's still a t. rex skeleton because they had originally planned to do nonavians. terror bird crashes through it, crunches a fossil bone. Close up on the eye. It knows. you know. we all know. birds continue rex's legacy. and there's no where to run.
Ok I had never heard of the clubbed ibis before and I. what.
What is that it’s a flightless ibis with its entire hand fused into a solid block for hitting stuff? why???
Absolutely incredible no notes.
We are all aware that libraries across the United States are under attack. Thanks to groups like Moms for Liberty and other outspoken “concerned citizens,” there has been actual legislative action at multiple levels of government to limit what libraries can do and provide to their communities. Even in the places where there hasn’t been that kind of action, those same concerned citizens have mounted acts of intimidation to instill fear and block access...In light of this, I’ve heard many iterations of the same question: how can we help? What do libraries and library staff need right now?
How to Support Your
Library in the Wake of
Rising Fascism
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Good discussion, and the steps are good advice for listening
- Stay aware
- Speak up
- Show up
- Be a good bystander
- Share your appreciation
This is art
NICE
If I caption this “I can haz cheezburger?” do you think the fabric of time and space will rip and we’ll be flung violently back into our own past?
no but really, so what if someone needs a mobility aid because they're fat? when it comes to mobility aids, it doesn't matter why you need them outside of understanding what your needs are. what really matters is how it would improve your life - make you happier and healthier, like you deserve to be.
this goes for any treatment and support you need because you're fat. fat people have the same right to healthcare that thin people do, and being fat never means you don't deserve wellbeing and safety. fatness is not a wrongdoing. it impacting your health doesn't mean being fat is bad - or that you're bad.
the moralization of disability and fatness is not your fault. please do what you need to be as healthy and safe as you can be. this is your life, no one else's. live it as best you can.
Everyone deserves to be able to live their life and move around the world.
This isn't a thing you have to "earn", it's a basic human right.
big fan of basic human rights. especially the ones that conflict with endstage capitalism. and eugenics. and fascism.
bodily autonomy is my absolute favorite.

A great song from one of my favorite bands. I tend to queue up a Playlist of theirs when I'm just trying to mellow myself out.
Currently Reading: mainly rereading the Monster Manga series by Naoki Urasawa. It's a very good series and I'm just basking in its glory.
Currently Watching: West World Season 4 (its very good so far), rewatching Person of Interest (we're on season 1 and it's as fantastic as its always been) and rewatching Good Omens (still a sublime experience)
Current Obsessions: to my chagrin, my brain has decided to refixate on some games of mine: Detroit Become Human and Tales from the Borderlands. I cannot begin to guess why. 😹
Tagging: whoever would like to give it a go! 💚
Thanks for tagging me @spinner-sophie !
youth have a right to be educated about the world regardless of what their parents/caretakers believe. youth have a right to learn accurate information about the world for themselves, including information that allows them to disagree with their parents/caretakers. we have got to destroy this mindset that everyone under 18 is essentially sentient playdough for parents to mold however they want and its violating "parent's rights" to allow their children to be educated on basic facts of the world (like that queer people exist or that america is founded on genocide) because it would mean they lose the slightest bit of control over their child's reality. imo schools have a moral responsibility to protect youth's right to knowledge and freedom of thought over their parent's "right" to control everything they know. your children should be allowed to fucking disagree with you, and restricting their access to knowledge in order to prevent that is abuse.
OMG! Remember this?
