When most people "roll their eyes", they flick their eyes directly upward, usually as far as they comfortably go, then resume looking normally.

When someone who learned the phrase before the behavior does it, they usually go in a circular (ish) motion. Since most eye movements are lines, it's usually pretty triangular: the key points are usually a diagonal up one way, then to the far other side, then to a diagonal low the first way. Thus, the eyes basically make a loop, so they "rolled".

I've found that when people who learned the up-down way first try the circular motion, they might risk motion sickness, so experiment carefully.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN MOST PEOPLE JUST LOOK UP

also cartoon characters tend to do the actual circular movement, or at the very least flick directly up only to then roll to the side along the edge of their vision, so there’s also that to emulate from as a kid

steven just straight up sacrificed so much in the timeskip as if he hasn’t sacrificed enough beforehand, and it’s being hinted at more and more (like how he hasn’t talked to humans much and has lost touch with humanity altogether, how he’s still very much scared and uncomfortable being around the diamonds but stays pleasant anyway and becomes their freaking lifecoach and yet stupid ppl still harp on him for being the slightest bit impatient with spinel, how he has an awful work life balance, how he has the same issues with being left behind by his loved ones because he can’t keep up with them that he began the series with, etc) which i really hope gets addressed. but if it’s not, ill cry over this character alone in the corner. 

Oh wow what a parallel!

Start of the series, he was always afraid of being left behind by the gems as they went off to battle, because he couldn’t fight. So he just had to live a (vaguely) normal life.

Now he’s afraid of being left behind by the gems as they live a normal life, and all he knows how to do anymore is fight.

Oh my god this makes so much elegant and saddening sense.
