they just don't make straight ships like they did in the 90s/early 2000s anymore

like they aren't compelling to me unless they're both queercoded or canonically queer, have seasons of tension with very little payoff, and have ungodly amounts of devotion from the man towards the woman. like what is the point of straight people in media today. they aren't even gay.

actually you know what this applies to gay ships too...... they may not have been canon in the 90s/2000s but there's a reason queer coded ships/sometimes queerbaiting ships appeal to people over like. the 1 dimensional shallow canon gay ships now

and in general I think this is an issue w modern television like. instead of 20+ episodes per season, you get 8-10 if you're lucky, 4-8 more common. there's no time for pining, there's no time for having your characters be apart for episodes at a time. every conflict has to be resolved faster and that includes getting them together faster, never writing intimate moments between them that would take away from the plot which you don't have time to tell, etc. so characters don't have time to prove they actually like each other, it's just immediate declarations of undying love and them trying to tell us that these two pined for each other/are extremely devoted/etc, but never getting to show it bc you only have like 8 fucking episodes

anyway I really wish they'd bring back the 20+ episode count. I miss it so much and it gives you so much room to actually expand on your relationship dynamics instead of insisting there's chemistry when there's absolutely nothing

What's happening to AO3 right now?

As you may have noticed already, Archive of Our Own is currently down. This is temporary, but unfortunately.. we now know that this is much deeper than we thought.

AO3 is currently the victim of a DDOS attack orchestrated by "Anonymous Sudan"

Why? Because AO3 is home to thousands of LGBTQIA+ content and lots of NSFW content. They're doing this as an Anti-LGBTQ+ attack. If they're doing this for or from America specifically, we're not sure. But this is what AO3 is facing at this time.

What can we do?

Spread the word. Spread the fucking word. I'll be providing updates to my Tumblr page directly from the r/AO3 subreddit. I know that not everyone here is comfortable using Reddit, so I'm taking the blow for you. I cannot access Twitter though.

And please, whatever you do...

Stop using the Archive of Our Own website at this time.

The moderators, showrunners, and service providers all need to repair the damage done by this group. The amount of data flooding in from people trying to log in will cause more problems. Keep yourselves off of the website.

hey y’all dont refresh or go to the ao3 website at least until the official twitter says it’s okay. because of the type of attack this will only make things worse for the staff on hand therefore prolonging the wait. so just chill out and wait for them to do their jobs
