I know it’s been almost two years now since TROS *spits on the ground reflexively* but it will never stop being funny to me that the sequel trilogy (98% TLJ, but 1.5% TFA and 0.5% TROS) accidentally manifested one of the most interesting characters I’ve ever seen on screen: Kylo Ren
Rey is ostensibly the main character but in reality she’s just the audience (JJ’s) insert. She doesn’t really have wants outside of what JJ assumes the audience wants. By (RJ) allowing Kylo to have his rage, his resentment - his humiliation, his self-righteousness, the desire to reject his family’s legacy while still being trapped in the legacy of his grandfather - Kylo became the compelling one.

This trilogy was always gonna be doomed in some way the moment they made the irrelevant GirlBoss Luke clone&her friends the MC.
Most Reylos who say they “love” TLJ don’t even realize why that film ended up better than the rest. It recentered the story at least somewhat on the proper protagonists.
