historical things I wished cbs ghosts touched on but understand why not
- King Philip’s War. Patience undoubtedly would’ve heard about this and I really wished we saw the strain this conflict had put on her relationship with Sass.
- Anything involving American Slavery. Yes, it had been referenced offhand but I feel like it’s strange it’s always conveniently ignored. I understand why they don’t mention it but still, it feels strange.
- Genocide of Indigenous People. I wished they mentioned it more for Sass, we saw it in the Tree but it’s highly likely he doesn’t know how bad it was besides what he had seen.
- Any depiction of Jewish Culture. We get mentions but we see nothing. Go girl give us nothing!!
- The fact Alberta was a Black woman living in the South during the 1920’s. You know, where the KKK was VERY active. Also she lived in Oklahoma, that used to be a Native American Reserve and at the time of her childhood had a lot of Native Americans still there. Some Lenape people were in Oklahoma after the Indian Removal Act so like it’s likely she would’ve met at least one.
- Mentions of any American wars. US Civil War, both Elias and Hetty lived through; WWI who Alberta lived through; WWII who Joan lived through; Vietnam War which Flower lived through (mentioned so +1p) and Pete would’ve been old enough to SERVE!!!
- Mentions of the Cold War. Almost all the Ghosts had been apart of the Red Scare Eras of American history. Feels weird we haven’t gotten a single offhanded comment about the Russians or the Soviets.
I completely understand why but it just feels strange to have something about us history to not have these things 😔
Coyote finds old dog toy, acts like a puppy A photographer spotted a coyote as it trotted into her yard and explored a toy left in the snow. What she managed to capture on camera is the beauty of play.
i personally hc that the land woodstone manor is on was taken from the Lenape in a “land deal”. in this case, sasappis wouldn’t really understand what was going on; there’s talk of course about wars and death and new diseases but wars happen all the time, land skirmishes and differences that sass thinks are stupid but people die over anyways. he doesn’t really think much of it. the language changes a bit too - faster than he can keep up with, so the colonizers come and shake hands (another thing he doesn’t understand because that’s not what they Lenape do) and talk in a language he can’t hear he does’t understand why the village is just… gone. overnight. It’s jarring, at first, of course it is, but sometimes they have to move around, for food and resources, that’s probably what this was. or maybe they’re trying to avoid those new diseases everyone seems so stressed about. and then the puritan colony settles down and they do things so much different from the way the Lenape do, and sass doesn’t understand why they’re here and his people aren't. so time passes and things change and the Lenape don’t return to the land while so many other people do and he doesn’t understand why? is there something wrong with it? (is that why he’s stuck here?) but they probably just settled down elsewhere, there’s so much land and space, he’s probably just unlucky enough to get stuck with the land that got traded away. (because of course it was traded, of course it was a fair deal, of course they’re still here.) somewhere down the line he realizes that it wasn’t a deal nor was it fair. it was extortion. leave or else. his stomach twists but… but at least they left. they may not be here but they’re not gone… right? and no one says anything to his face - admits the truth of the crime and no one calls it what it was. really no one talks about the Lenape much at all. so sasappis knows bits and pieces about what happened, and thinks he understands the full picture. it’s not until sam and jay come in and talk and change things again that he hears the word ‘genocide’. sam looks at him like he should know what that word means - trevor and pete and flower and hetty and isaac and thor won’t look at him and why won’t they look at him and will someone just tell him what that handshake really meant and he doesn’t understand and—
when he finally learns what really happened, the whole ugly truth - except is it the whole truth or is there more they're not telling him? - he spends the next week by himself in the forest. no one bothers him. no one hears him as he screams into the sky, except the land beneath his feet
the thing is that alberta says that she was too important to go from a heart attack. she tries to explain her death, rationalize it, because there was no way she died for no reason, right? isnt that what we all do, try and find the meaning in tragedy? they talk about her murderer being a jealous rival, a stilted lover, a vengeful enemy from alberta's past. because of course alberta's death is about alberta, right? she's the one who died.
but then she finds out about earl and thomas. thomas who wasn't even thinking, just... upset. scorned. it wasn't planned thing, really, it wasn't even about her; i man earl never said that he was ending things to be with alberta. and thomas, who couldn't handle his emotions like a grown man killed her. for... nothing. it's not like it changed earl's mind.
and in the end alberta's death was as pointless as if she had simply died of a busted ticker.
warm baked goods are insane. something so beautiful and almost maddening about absolutely tearing into them when they’re fresh. feeling warm all over after. I really do get vampires for real
people still regularly jumping on this post like “ummmm…” “what was that last part???” “not where i expected this to go AT ALL” what’s not clicking. Something is wrong with YOU. not me.
