I fucking hate space twitter sometimes.
I am once again explaining that in order for walkable cities and public transit to work for disabled people, there also need to be more public bathrooms available in and around those areas. Not just places to sit down or rest. Bathrooms. We need accessible, clean bathrooms. With sharps bins. With multiple wheelchair accessible stalls. With an area to set down supplies needed to maintain one’s body. Even if it’s not being used to get rid of bodily waste, bathrooms are one of the few spaces disabled people have to maintain some sort of privacy when they’re in the middle of a flare up or they need to take medication or what have you. Designing a public space? Include bathrooms.
Free ones, that are open all of the time.
everyone should vote for discworld not because its the best (both good) but because it will annoy a small but irritating subset of this website who are both extremely into tolkien and extremely catholic in all the worst ways
man this is like the worst year for tech and websites
discord is forcing a username change that no one wants, twitch nearly banned sponsored streams, imgur is banning NSFW and removing old pics, reddit is restricting their API usage and killing off all mobile apps, apple introducing some shitty overpriced AR headset, the amount of fuckups twitter is doing i cant even count on my own two hands its all becoming too much i hate technology i hate you silicon valley
do me a solid and just reblog this saying what time it is where you are and what you’re thinking about in the tags.
somebody said ed feat. tony-hawk-syndrome and I very much agree
i love defunctland because youll be watching a completely ordinary and straightforward video about theme park history until kevin says some shit like "nothing makes one face their own mortality more than being a wiggle" and then continues on like nothing ever happened
I went on a defunctland binge yesterday, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget him going on a minute long rant regardind an incredibly detailed explanation of the ideological debate in High Shool Musical 2’s “I Don’t Dance”, only to then completely and suddenly move on from it and continue what the video was actually about.
ooh ooh a favourite of mine would be "a california themed theme park in the already california themed california" from the superstar limo vid
hi darlings reblog to give the prev person a lil forehead kiss because yes <3
Non-Britons! Instead of being distracted by the pomp and fanfare of the coronation, here’s a reminder that:
- The coronation was funded by tax-payer money. This same tax could have gone towards the cost of living crisis. People are starving and freezing to death as this is going on.
- Protests (peaceful or otherwise) are illegal now. A lot of anti-monarchists are being arrested for simply holding signs.
- Our government is currently trying to push through a revision to the Equality Act that will exclude trans and non-binary individuals.
- Oil companies have made a record profit in the past couple of years. Oil and gas prices aren’t rising because of an inflation issue.
- Our NHS is crumbling because funding is going to stupid projects like this coronation.
Food banks are getting cuts to fund this coronation. Like, literally, non-theoretical money that regularly goes to food banks and stuff like that and is planned for by everyone is being withheld so it can pay for a guy who wants you to voice an oath to your TV
Please also remember that Charles has funded his lifestyle up to this point by being a literal feudal landlord, including raising excessive rents on his tenants.
this is maybe the funniest thing to happen, ever. thank you spacex for once again pushing the boundaries of trashy scifi
Can we not, this time? Musk had nothing to do with the design or construction of that rocket. He's just slapping his name on it.
You're mocking the hard efforts of teams of engineers trying to do what is still the hardest activity humanity engages in.
Space flight is not and probably will never be easy. A failure is not a spectacle, it's an opportunity to learn and make the next design better.
Look, maybe I'm the asshole here. But like....
We've successfully been getting rockets into orbit for like 60 years.
What *exactly* did this teach us that we didn't already know?
Yeah, fuck ups happen. Especially with something as complex as a rocket launch. But really- what was learned here? How was this a success? Because this feels a lot like stroking Musks ego because his attempt to privatize the colonization of space is a bumbling, explodey waste of time that keeps raining debris across my state.
It's not like any other rocket we've ever built. The bigger ones we currently have are made to fit only a few people to shuttle them up to the iss. What SpaceX engineers are trying to do is send enough people and equipment to colonise. This has to be a huge rocket. And if you look at the history of rockets, every size increase also requires some sort of innovative launch system. ALSO it has to get to MARS with the payload.
So it's going to take a few misfires, to say the least. The only thing I don't get is why they hyped this doomed rocket so much.
It wouldn't have been such a misfire if they had followed basic, well established, obvious safety measures. But those safety measures cost *money*I suppose. It didn't have to be doomed. Privatized space flight is just a fucking scam.
Yeah, I agree with that. But let's be honest, who else can work towards Mars?
NASAs entire Artemis project right now has a long term goal of getting humans to Mars.
But more importantly- mankind does not have an obligation to get to Mars, and we should not excuse flagrant safety risks and environmental harm because some rich asshole has dreams of starting an indentured servitude colony there.
I need to add to the comedy of errors that this completely needless launch was. Firstly, almost everything on the rocket was in some way obsolete, the raptor engines were a generation behind, the structure of the launch vehicle has been dramatically changed, and the tiling on the starship was sloppily done. There was /no/ need to launch this rocket. Not only that, but things point to Musk directly having a hand in one of the worst decisions of this launch- not having a flame diverter/trench or a water deluge sound suppression system. This lack of launch pad safety measures caused the launch pad to be essentially destroyed, and debris scattered across a wildlife protected area, not to mention destroying or damaging fuel tanks, service equipment, and launch watchers' cars. The flight termination system also failed to destroy the rocket safely in a timely manner when it was obvious that the launch would fail, it took 40 seconds for the rocket to fall apart after the flight termination system was triggered. Imagine if this rocket went off course towards a populated area or the people watching the launch, 40 seconds could be long enough for the rocket to hit people. The best thing about this launch is the schadenfreude of seeing it fail.
This can fuck all the way off.
I would sooner shit in my hands and clap than swear allegiance to the billionaire on his magic fucking chair with his shiny fucking king hat.
The absolute lunacy of all this is astounding. Every carrot fawning over this bollocks needs therapy.
