Living Like Larry
Unironically, vegans need to be advocating for more and better sheep, llama, and alpaca farms. Wool is one of the best fabrics we have in terms of versatility, longevity and most importantly, insulation. Even wet, it retains 80% of it’s insulation potential.
AND IT DOESN’T SHED MICROPLASTICS
Like, there’s literally nothing you can do to a sheep that’s as morally reprehensible as dumping plastic down the gullet of literally every other living thing. You wanna talk about animal welfare? Talk about reducing the amount of microplastics produced by rayon, polyester, and spandex.
Bruh plant-based sources of clothing exist and are better for the environment and don’t involve slicing an animal’s throat open please shut the fuck up you cunt
THE WOOL GROWS BACK
I know when I shear my animals I always make sure to slice their throat 😌
In the UK many farmers are resorting to throwing away or burning the wool from their sheep because the fleeces have so little value now that it’s not worth trying to sell them. Other farmers are switching to using sheep breeds that moult naturally as it costs more to sheer an individual sheep than it’s fleece is worth.
Meanwhile fast fashion brands keep pumping out clothing made of plastics that will permanently pollute the environment and shed microplastics everywhere.
The impact PETA has had on completely misinforming the public on where wool comes from is astounding.
This is all shearing a sheep involves. That’s it. It may be a bit confusing or uncomfortable, but it’s no more inhumane than giving a dog a bath. Most wool-bearing animals do not shed their wool naturally anymore and must be sheared to avoid suffering an incredibly slow death.
Nothing about wool production is cruel to the animals. No part of wool goes against veganism. Benefits the animal and benefits the people.
ive gotten a depressing amount of use out of th is image
If you want a quick summary: wool is made by sheep haircuts, and you have to give sheep haircuts anyway. Everyone in this post is using the term “sheering”, which might sound scary to you, because it’s a technical term you’re unfamiliar with that references a blade. It’s a haircut. It’s a less exploitative haircut than when a principal lets the students shave their head if the students raise enough charity money. Haircut haircut haircut.
how are there so many vegans that think you have to kill an animal to cut it’s wool
They’re TOLD that, using propaganda, often at a young age, and taught that people who do not believe as they do are evil and hesrtless, and that people with conflicting or contradictory information are stupid or are liars. Lashing out is seen as activism, it is encouraged, binding people together with outrage, bolstered by the anger their attacks provoke. That people who disagree push back and are sometimes mean about it is “proof” they are “right”. I hate saying it, but it is profoundly akin to cult indoctrination.
Vegans and vegetarians are not inherently gullible, fanatical, annoying people. They’re fine. I know and love plenty, I have learned a lot and hope someday to be functional and healthy enough to cook and digest vegetarian meals. I like these folks fine. They have a lot of good ideas.
But the radicalized ones that don’t question sources and lash out and spread the same falsehoods that snared them… they’re exhausting. And they don’t want to be educated on their false knowledge (the bee crushing centrifuge, pink slime, shearing a sheep kills it, etc.) because to them, when you try, it feels like their core belief – animals should not suffer – is being assaulted.
More, they feel insulted personally by the idea that they might have believed something very very false, and acted aggressively on those beliefs (lashing out, suicide baiting). Of course they don’t take it well when you try to explain the flaws in their logic or present conflicting evidence. It’s really unpleasant to realize that.
TL;DR: Targeted propaganda by entites like P*TA uses our immense human empathy to radicalize people, often to the point of reducing empathy for humans, and the same propaganda dismisses or lies openly about wider environmental and agricultural concerns raised by eliminating animal products. Lashing out is encouraged and rewarded within the community. These beliefs are very hard to break. I have no idea how to fix this as I am not trained in reversing that sort of harm.
Exciting news.
y’all better hype this up because this is BIG and is evidence that the berlin patient wasn’t a fluke, and this could revolutionize medicine (there’s already cases of cancers where methods similar to these have worked), and while you’re at it, please join a bone marrow registry!! (especially poc bc these therapies usually only have been done on white patients due to genetic similarities, and the more poc we get in registries the more access poc patients can have to this for cancers, SSS, etc)
Just an update from August 2022, we’re onto to number 5 and potentially number 6. Big things are happening at great speed!
Possibly TRIGGERING content below of Azzy-the-Christian-furry. (Homophobia, transphobia, gun violence in schools, religion, etc.)
I highly recommend you block him please, if you haven’t already.
TERFs have begun using “hygienic” to mean cis because they’re fucking weirdos who think trans people don’t take baths
I’ve been collecting these screenshots for months to prove my point, this is an actual thing they’re doing and I feel that by now I have enough proof to be making this post. If you see someone calling themselves hygienic in their blog description, that’s what they mean. They mean they’re openly transphobic. And a fucking weirdo who assumes trans people don’t bathe for some reason.
No I’m not censoring the urls, all of these people can go fuck themselves! Block, don’t harass 💙🖤
Wow your not even wrong there
They’re litterally not even trying to hide it anymore. i dont usually reblog posts like this but this is important to warn people about. this is why transmisogynists like this should never be given a platform nor should you ever argue with them or talk to them. because that is exactly what they want.
yeah they don’t mean trans people done take baths. they mean trans people are inherently dirty, as in, our genes are dirty. this is eugenicist and Nazi rhetoric y'all
It's during the darkest times that even a little light shines all the brighter. Have some good news in these trying times.
Friendly reminder that GIMP does pretty much everything Photoshop does, and it’s 100% free. Fuck DRM and the license culture, we have plenty of open source options available to us as a consumer.
- Lightworks is a freeware video editor on par with Premiere
- Blender is an excellent freeware 3D renderer, possibly better than After Effects
- Lightzone to replace Lightroom
- Inkscape to replace Illustratr
- Audacity to replace Audition (I also received a free version of Pro Tools with my Scarlett Solo audio interface)
If Adobe is going to be greedy shitheads, then fuck ‘em. Don’t use their stuff. Freeware can be just as good, if not better, than Adobe CC.
reblog to save a digital arts major
Reblog to save an artist.
oh jEEZ
I will keep saying this: GIMP sucks butts.
- Medibang Paint and Fire Alpaca for more cartoon style illustration
- Krita for painting
- Clip Studio Paint (not free, but often on sale and cheap even at full price) is better than PS for art and I’m about to cut adobe entirely. Even does some photo editing.
- Paint Tool SAI (again, not free but cheap) old but good, there’s a ton of hacked copies around too. Not hard to get for free.
- Open Tunez for animation.
I’m currently using Affinity Photo and it’s a great Photoshop alternative. One time fee only and it’s not really expensive, plus supports PSD formats. Free trial available too! Davinci Resolve for video editing is amazing as well! :)
I work Adobe free. Clip Studio Paint does just about anything any Photoshop or Illustrator could, Davinci Resolve is easier to use than Premiere and just as useful. Adobe can eat shit.

[ (stitch with @/sorrel.hartley) What’s the most like “chronically online” take you’ve ever seen on the internet?
I have recieved a comment telling me that it was transphobic to be comfortable with my masculine body as a nonbinary person. Like, (frustrated noise). there is so much to unpack with that take but I’m gonna focus on tiktok and tumblr’s perception of nonbinary people and how damaging that is to the community.
This idea that all nonbinary people must, like you know be fucking mullet, big eyeliner, fucking skinny, white, afab. Do you like frogs, do you like mushrooms? Shut the fuck up. I sometimes feel like my pronouns are rarely accepted because its like if you don’t look in my bio you hear my voice and it’s like, oh- Makes me so angry.
Tiktok and tumblr basically set themselves up for failure when they created this perfect perception of what a nonbinary person looks like. And god forbid if you don’t fit into that box, guess you’re not valid. Me being amab does not make me any less nonbinary and you’d think thats a given but for some people its just, you know- Do you like frogs or mushrooms? I’ll kill you, what the fuck.]
Note: The issue isn’t the people who fit the stereotypes, its the stereotypes being used to determine who’s “actually” nonbinary.
Gonna put that in bold for those who might not notice it at first
Note: The issue isn't the people who fit the stereotypes, it's the stereotypes being used to determine who's "actually" nonbinary.
I can't stand when people try to INSIST that a nonbinary person isn't ~doing their gender right~. Like FUCK you! So much of being nonbinary is freeing yourself from boxes or doing whatever the fuck you like with the boxes and making it your own. There isn't a wrong way to do or be any gender, and to try and CREATE a "correct" way to be nonbinary is so gross and wrong.
Strong AGREE.
i am not joking we need to force teach cooking in schools. like. it is an essential thing for survival. do you know how easy it is to make things if you know even the bare bones shit about how cooking works. we need to teach teenagers how far you can take an onion and some other veggies it’’s sad that people grow up not knowing how to prepare literally anything. and i’m not talking about oh this home ed class taught me how to make chicken nuggets at home i’m talking about learning the balancing of sweetness and acidity and saltiness and bitterness and shit like that and techniques and oil temperatures and how meats cook. it needs to be taught because it’s literally not even that difficult and it matters so much
i truly believe that knowing how to cook is a basic survival concept and the fact that so many people can’t even make simple dishes is depressing as hell this is the sorta thing that should be taught at a young age. being able to take the ingredients you have around your home and turn them into a meal is like, essential and will make life so much better. you don’t need to be a high end chef you just need to understand some things that can be easily taught… but then again maybe the education system is playing a roll against this and ultimately they want you to grow up to rely on mcdonalds for dinner. i don’t know. please learn how to cook for yourself if you’re able. i’m not asking you to hunt for specific ingredients to make some expensive youtuber’s “best” recipe but if you know the basics of cooking you can do a lot with cheap canned ingredients. cooking can be affordable i promise you just need to learn how to make do with what you can get
Can anyone point me towards resources that teach those basics cus I would LOVE to teach my child this stuff but i dont know how to cook
not comprehensive but heres some:
internet shaquille’s basics but especially:
- making rice
- making scrambled eggs
- making oatmeal
- levels of cooking meat
- using & storing vegetables with recipes in the description (this one has a bit of Sassiness directed at people who dont like vegetables but the content is solid)
food safety + a recipe to demonstrate
how to learn to cook (just a list of subtopics, no actual tips)
- freezer meals,
- weeknight meals,
- kitchen tools (although the specific suggestions are pretty expensive even with the lower end scale items the basic categories are solid, and you can evaluate what items you will realistcially need - eg. if you dont need to read temp for steaks etc the temp reader will not be relevant) &
- kitchen care (mid-high advanced home cooking)
a little more complicated, involved, and longer than any of the rest of these but good breakdown of flavor & how and why to use the basic seasoning/flavor profiles
and then recipe channels representing various cuisines:
- j. kenji lopez-alt (various)
- marion’s kitchen (southeast & east asian, western/asian fusion)
- maangchi (korean)
- future neighbor (mostly korean)
- the western supermarket playlist of chinese cooking demystified (more recipes available but these are accessible if you dont have “specialty” ingredients)
- family recipes playlist by made with lau (chinese)
- not another cooking show (various)
- cooking with boris (bear with me here i know he does it exaggeratedly humorously but a lot of them are actually solid and beginner cook friendly. mostly slavic/russian)
- you suck at cooking (also falls into the intentionally humorous category but most of the recipes are pretty solid anyway)
- how to cook that (baking, also does debunking videos of viral cooking hacks - breaks down the reasons the hacks dont work, pretty important to understand those basics imo)
- internet shaquille (various)
- babish culinary universe (various)
- i REFUSE to recommended joshua weissman because he is fucking insufferable but if you want you can try if you can deal with it, the techniques/recipes seem fine for the most part
again definitely not a comprehensive list but it touches on most of the basics
I honestly recommend cookbooks for beginner cooks (they cost more than internet recipes, but you can get them used without too much agony.
Internet recipes are great, but they vary widely in explanation quality, which is fine if you know most of the techniques, but less so if you’re still learning. There’s an extra level of overall organization in edited cookbooks that I take for granted but that can be a lot of help if you’re starting out.
There’s a whole genre of cookbooks that are “for teens” or “for college students” which are specifically focused on new cooks without too many tools. Don’t be embarrassed to get one even if you are no longer a teen or a student. They’re just really useful.
My favourite is “Clueless in the Kitchen” by Evelyn Raab. It leads with a whole section on cooking and kitchen maintenence and it gives the recipes with minimal spices but with instructions about how to add or alter spices in a recipe, so you don’t get pummelled with huge numbers of herbs and spices to buy all at once. This copy is $4.
I once won a giveaway for a digital copy of Cooking Is Terrible by Mischa Fletcher, so I feel kind of obliged to try and convince people to buy a copy, but honestly it’s fun to read even if you’re not using it for its intended purpose: learning how to make a decently nutritious meal for not a lot of time, energy, or money.

reblogging this for safekeeping.
This could be the most important post I’ve ever shared. Please Share it with anyone who is or might be going through this terrible disease.
My mom has fairly severe respiratory issues and is recovering from joint replacement; her PT told her the same info about sleeping/sitting positions and how they impact the lungs. Fascinating.
rebloging again in case someone missed this.
Excellent health information.
Stuff they don’t want you to know!!!!!
Great post.

“How to treat Covid at home … this was shared on a Covid survivor group…
HOW TO FIGHT COVID AT HOME
No one ever talks about how to fight Covid at home. I came down with Covid in November. I went to the hospital, running a fever of 103, a rapid heart beat, and other common….
…. symptoms that come with Covid. While I was there they treated me for the high fever, dehydration and pneumonia.
The doctor sent me home to fight Covid with two prescriptions - Azithromycin 250mg & Dexamethason 6mg. When the nurse came in to discharge me, I asked her..
….. “What can I do to help fight this at home?” She said, “Sleep on your stomach at all times with Covid. If you can’t sleep on your stomach because of heath issues sleep on your side. Do not lay on your back no matter what because it smashes your lungs…
.. and that will allow fluid to set in.
Set your clock every two hours while sleeping on your stomach, then get out of bed and walk for 15-30 min, no matter how tired or weak that you are. Also move your arms around frequently, it helps to open your lungs.
…. Breathe in thru your nose, and out thru your mouth. This will help build up your lungs, plus help get rid of the Pneumonia or other fluid you may have.
When sitting in a recliner, sit up straight - do not lay back in the recliner, again this will smash your lungs…
… While watching TV - get up and walk during every commercial.
Eat at least 1 - 2 eggs a day, plus bananas, avocado and asparagus. These are good for Potassium. Drink Pedialyte, Gatorade Zero, Powerade Zero & Water with Electrolytes to prevent you from becoming dehydrated..
.. . Do not drink anything cold - have it at room temperature or warm it up. Water with lemon, and little honey, peppermint tea, apple cider are good suggestions for getting in fluids. No milk products, or pork. Vitamin’s D3, C, B, Zinc, Probiotic One-Day are good ideas
.. Tylenol for fever. Mucinex, or Mucinex DM for drainage, plus helps the cough. Pepcid helps for cramps in your legs. One baby aspirin everyday can help prevent getting a blood clot, which can occur from low activity. “
Drink a smoothie of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, honey, tea and a spoon or two of peanut butter.
We always hear of how Covid takes lives, but there isn’t a lot of information out there regarding how to fight Covid. I hope this helps you or someone you know, just as it has..
… helped me.
Share please.”
End I.D.)

tbh fuck anyone who says a single bad thing about libraries
Not content I normally reblog but libraries are super important and our world would be diminished without them.
The library was how I was able to read so many books as a kid that my parents wouldn’t have been able to afford.
Libraries are one of the only places on Earth that treats people the same no matter how much money you have. We can’t lose that.
also the brooklyn public library does free career counseling
Now that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and The White House have finalized new nondiscrimination provisions under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, it is more important than ever to know your rights and what to do if you face discrimination.
To better explain what these protections mean, Out2Enroll partnered with trans comic artist, Dylan Edwards, on a series of illustrated discrimination situations.
Wake up babe new legal protections dropped

I also require money to put towards work appropriate clothes so that I’m not miserable (I will be working primarily outdoors, so I will need clothes for hot, warm, and snowy weather!)
Your help would be greatly appreciated!
