The next time you've got a friend over, set an example and put your phone on the table, visibly there but not too far away, to let them know that you're intentionally present, not distracted, your attention is undivided and you want to be fully focused on being right there to spend time with them. Don't mention it or draw attention to this, you're not doing this to be preachy or wanting praise, you just want to be a good friend and you value your friend's time. Ideally, your friend will either notice this or even pick it up without conscious notice, and set their own phone aside on the table as well.

Then, when your friend takes a minute to go to the bathroom, grab your phone and take a photo of your friend's phone sitting on your table. Do not touch it, and put your own phone back exactly where it was immediately once you've got the picture. Carry on with whatever you two were doing.

Once your time is up and your friend has left for home, wait for a good 15 minutes or so, for them to either get back home or be well on their way there. Text your friend, "hey, you forgot your phone", and send them the photo you took of their phone on your table. Set a stopwatch running from the moment your friend sees the message.

Measure how many seconds it takes for your friend to process this and tell you to go fuck yourself.

I really recommend this website to people who want to read more world literature beyond ao3 in a manageable way. It had an interface somewhat similar to ao3, but better organized - you can make an account to bookmark and keep track of stories you’ve already read. All stories are available in English, hebrew, and/or original language. There are stories from around the world and the collections in Spanish, Arabic, and Hebrew are especially rich. There also features to tell you the rough reading time and “why you would read this story”

This is why fat shaming can have tragic consequences.

If this sort of weight-based medical bias happens to any of y'all, politely tell the doctor (during your visit) that you want them to write in your file that they are refusing ordering tests for you because of your current weight. This usually causes them to order the test anyways because they do NOT want a malpractice suit. Remember: You want to make a paper trail to hold them accountable.

so many random viral pop culture accounts on twitter literally just make shit up but do so in the format

BREAKING 🚨 CONFIRMED: [completely made up story. "completely made up quote from person involved."]
(source: Deadline)
[image that is just a photo, not a link, but now they look the same on twitter]

and then they go viral on twitter and then people HERE on tumblr dot com will post SCREENSHOTS with the twitter handle cropped out to even further obscure the fact that it's made up and YOU ALL will fall for it… literally begging people to do one (1) search before you reblog stuff. on my fucking knees

I had a dream that I went to heaven and heaven had its own heaven-exclusive tv shows that were written and produced there in heaven and they showed me the most popular show in heaven and it was this really beautiful drama and, at the end of the episode, the credits said “Created by Mike Ehrmantraut” and they were like “oh yeah. fictional characters who die in earth media go to real heaven” and I’m like “sure but mike did some pretty fucked up stuff, wouldn’t he go to hell?” and they’re like “no, all the fucked up things he did were fictional. people only get judged for the real things they do and the only thing mike really did was bring joy to millions of viewers” and i think that’s beautiful

Rocky Horror is turning 50 next month and people still act like being gay was invented by Ellen in 1997

But honestly! Renowned French poet Théophile de Viau wrote the poetic ode to King James titled "The Duke of Buckingham," containing the immortal lines "One man fucks Monsieur le Grand de Bellegarde/Another fucks the Comte de Tonnerre/And it is well known that the King of England/Fucks the Duke of Buckingham" exactly 400 years ago and people still act like being gay was invented by Oscar Wilde in 1890

Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep were buried together in the 25th century BC and people still act like being gay was invented by renowned French poet Théophile de Viau 400 years ago

Gilgamesh and Enkidu "loved each other like man and wife" in 2700 BC and ppl STILL act like being gay was invented by Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep in the 25th century BC

I haven't personally verified this as I'm not at a computer, but multiple people in multiple places are saying the same thing. This is fucking insane. First the endless war on UBlock, then the Chromium changes to shut out some blocker functionalities entirely next year, now this?

Something is deeply rotten in recent Google/YouTube policy. I can't imagine that this is legal - how is this not anticompetitive? Google needs to get mega fucked in the press and the courts sooner rather than later.

And I need to switch to Firefox as soon as I get home.

here's a workaround for that for firefox users

www.youtube.com##+js(nano-stb, resolve(1), *, 0.001)

for all yall who want to copy paste instead of write manually <3

Definitely noticing this as a Firefox user.

I had a weird year. My brother got cancer. I worked for several months as unexpected CEO. Our community took on large corporations to expand access to TB care. Weird.

But maybe the weirdest part of this very weird year: Rediscovering tumblr, and finding the experience lovely and funny and just altogether surprising.

So thanks for letting this unpaid intern hang around. I've got a simple pitch for you, and a thank you:

At http://good.store, we make awesome products--from soap to coffee to socks Hank designed during chemo--and then donate 100% of the profit to charities working to expand access to healthcare. This silly idea has raised over $6,000,000 in the last two years.

So as thanks for a surprisingly delightful time on tumblr this year, I want to offer you a 25% discount on anything at good store. Just click this link right here, or else use the code TUMBLRTHANKS at checkout We've got great gifts, great subscriptions, and much more. Code will be good until Monday. Thanks.
