at this point I wish advertising in general was just literally illegal. Word of mouth only. Maybe exceptions beneath a certain net value like if you’re a startup or a family run business but if you’re already making a billion dollars then making even one single commercial or banner campaign should be a crime and I mean a crime like the CEO gets investigated on national television and goes to prison forever and everyone agrees they’re a sick fucked up maniac

if you don’t know much abt christian fundamentalism, you might not have heard about quiverfull before. quiverfull is a christian nationalist movement that gets its name from psalms 127: 3-5

(3) Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. (4) As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. (5) Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

the quiverfull philosophy is that pregnancies/children are a blessing from god, that contraceptives/abortion are rejections of god’s true plan, and that christian families should have as many children as possible and raise them to be good soldiers in god’s army. children are arrows in your quiver: the more you have, the stronger a soldier you are.

christian nationalism, white supremacy, and patriarchy all go hand in hand. they are not separable from each other. they all follow the same principles. and they are all being leveraged toward the same end: make as many white, able bodied, indoctrinated babies as possible. we cannot reduce this to an issue of men vs women and lose sight of how this is going to affect BIPOC, poor people, disabled people, trans/queer people, intersex people, fat people. we can’t forget what the word “marginalize” means.

this is getting more attention than i expected so i want to clarify here that while i absolutely want more people to be aware of the quiverfull cult and the way that it facilitates horrific abuse, i mainly wanted to highlight one of the more blatant examples of how christian nationalism and white supremacy are intertwined. i’m not saying here that every “pro-life” asshole or even every legislator involved in this shitshow are secretly quiverfull people, but that the quiverfull cult is an example of people who say the quiet part out loud: “the goal of the systems of power that we uphold is to eternally perpetuate said systems by indoctrination from womb to tomb.”

if you look at fundamentalist extremists, they are CONSTANTLY saying the quiet parts out loud. and once you hear it, you start to get better at picking up on it when it IS quiet. fundies will openly talk about structuring their lives around hierarchies like the “umbrella of protection” where god rules over man, who rules over his wife, who rules over the children. they will say that a woman’s ultimate purpose in the world is to submit to her husband and to god by having lots of children and raising them to be good soldiers in god’s army. they will say that this is the only way to take back the world for god from sinners and degenerates.

remember “it’s adam and eve, not adam and steve?” where do you end up if you deconstruct that? “god made men and women and sex between them for a specific purpose.” what is that purpose? “to procreate. any sex that is not for the purpose of procreation is perverse.” why does god want us to procreate? “to be fruitful and multiply.” to what end? “to reclaim the world for him.”

you don’t have to be specifically a christian fundamentalist to follow this logic: perpetuate your beliefs and the structures built on their foundation by colonization, assimilation, eugenics, and lifelong indoctrination. whatever your flavor of fascism, it’s going to follow those principles.

there’s a reason why the court overturned roe v wade but buck v bell, which ruled in 1927 that compulsory sterilization of institutionalized disabled people was entirely constitutional and does not violate the fourteenth amendment, has not been touched in nearly 100 years. if they cared so much about a theoretical child’s right to be born, they wouldn’t be okay with the idea of forced sterilization. what they actually care about is eliminating and/or punishing undesirables: BIPOC, poor people, mad people, sick/disabled people, trans/queer people, intersex people, fat people, and literally any other demographic that they feel is a threat to the system.

another aspect of fundamentalism is prosperity gospel, which says that wealth and good health and happy circumstances are all rewards from god for honoring him. the implication of this is that sickness, poverty, or really any kind of misfortune are all moral failings. so long as you’re a good person, it won’t happen to you, and you don’t have to lift a finger to help the dirty sinners who have to sort out their own problems, unless your aim is to evangelize them. we see this ALL THE TIME from right wingers, whether in a religious context or not. individualist bootstrap ideology is exactly the same thing. if you’re in trouble, that’s YOUR problem. pull yourself up by your bootstraps and quit asking for handouts. if you die in the streets, well, your bad choices aren’t my problem.

it’s important now more than ever to reject this shit and to reach out to the vulnerable people around us and protect them as best we can. DO NOT let TERFs and white feminists dominate this conversation. their ideas have more in common with the fascists and the fundies than with us. pay attention to evangelist rhetoric, the ways cults use the BITE model to abuse people, the way people rationalize and justify child abuse, or abuse of patients by medical institutions, or employees by their employers. there’s a reason why all these systems echo each other in weird ways whether or not religion seems to be involved: systems of power seek nothing but to perpetuate themselves, no matter what that system is.

[ID: a screenshot from a reblog of this post with the username cropped out. the response says, “great post op but out of that whole list, you didn’t mention women even once. why is that?” and attached is a screenshot of the part of the post which reads, “idea of forced sterilization. what they actually care about is eliminating and/or punishing undesirables: BIPOC, poor people, mad people, sick/disabled people, queer (especially trans) people, intersex people, fat people, and literally any other demographic that they feel is a threat to the system.” end ID]

i’m not going to dignify this person w a direct response or expose anyone to their blog because they’re a radfem obviously. lol. but i want to show ppl this response because 1) lol 2) to highlight why i said what i said about terfs in the first place.

why didn’t i mention women in that list? first of all because women fall under all of those categories and anyone who wasn’t just trying to nitpick would understand that. secondly because i was talking very specifically about forced sterilization in that paragraph and about buck v bell. carrie buck wasn’t sterilized for being a woman. she was sterilized for being a disabled woman in a mental institution who already gave birth to one disabled daughter. they don’t want to sterilize “desirable” women. they want to sterilize specifically women who they have deemed undesirables and prevent them from giving birth to other undesirables. do they still want to police the sexualities and reproductive habits of those “desirable” women? yeah, obviously. that was the entire point of this post. they want to reduce desirable women to baby machines and servants to their husbands, and undesirable women to corpses. thirdly because not only women are subjected to forced sterilizations.

terfs and radfems are not our allies in this fight. regardless of what flavor or how deep into the ideology they are or whether or not they actually bother to think before they speak, you can plainly see that they don’t actually care about dismantling all systems of power. they will act like including trans people in your activism somehow excludes “real” women or threatens to erase women as a category, in the same way white supremacists warn about “the great replacement.” a fascist is a fascist is a fascist.

Like genuinely it is unquantifiably fucked up insane horror how many times the U.S. government has deliberately created fascist dictatorships and enabled genocides and funded terrorism all over the world in order to just weaken other nations or force them to depend on our own military for help, and how this isn’t a conspiracy theory but openly available public information, but neither right wing nor left wing journalism breathes a word about it and there’s no ongoing outrage or backlash against it from within this country nor is it discussed in most public education settings. It only ever gets addressed at all by independent authors, comedians, cartoonists and bloggers. It gets passed around in clickbait articles as Fucked Up History Trivia though it still continues even now and the aftermath of even the earliest cases is still killing and oppressing people. There are entire generations of multiple countries growing up in poverty and misery because of Henry Kissinger alone.

When i was like 13 was allowed to use the internet unrestricted for the first time and i spent a lot of time on Runescape. One of the people i talked to on there was this person who had much higher levels than me in every skill and had, to my perception, a seemingly overflowing amount of game resources. One day i was taking about wishing i could get gold ore to level my smithing and not having access to any and they like “here, you can have this gold that i have” and just gave me this big stack and i was like “i don’t even have anything to offer back”. They told me they didn’t need anything and just wanted to be nice. I said that they didn’t have to and what they told me honestly has stuck with me since, they said “life’s too short to spend it being mean to people” and like it’s such a simple thing to say but combined with their actions and the weight they bore to me at the time was hugely influential on my outlook on life and the way i treat others. I don’t know who that person is but they changed my life that day and I’m so thankful to them.

high level MMO-ers are either the nicest people on earth or the spawn of Satan there is no in between

Runescape was a big part of my formative years for better or worse. Age twelve left me impressionable at best and the free lobster this guy gave me one day just stuck with me. We fished together for days on end and we talked about our parents and stuff. If you’re out there NinjaKirby69 I miss you buddy.

I forgot to type it up yesterday but one of my best experiences didn’t even involve me. It was when my younger sister, Runescape user cooldudetha, crashed the steel market single-handedly out of sheer boredom.

I need to know this story

So if you’re not aware, Runescape has the Grand Exchange, which is basically a global trade market controlled by supply and demand. It’s an incredible system, and deserves a lot of commendation.

Well one day back in…I think Summer between 2010-2012? my younger sister and I had nothing to do but play Runescape in our free time. I did what all aspiring heroes do, I was happy to go out and commit mass goblin murder. My sister was more creative. At first she went to train Smithing in Al Kharid, which is this desert area with easy access to iron, coal, a player bank, and a smelter. So basically she made craploads of steel for hours on end for like a week. But then she realized she had nothing to do with the steel. She could go find a smith with an anvil and train Smithing further, but that was boring since she’d already been grinding forever. So she went to the Grand Exchange and sold it all.

Thousands of units of steel ingots.

And it sold like immediately, since there was always a large amount of people training Smithing at the level they could use steel.

Obviously she became fabulously wealthy and didn’t know what to do with her newfound wealth. But since she spent a lot of time at the Exchange, she knew basically how the market worked. I’m not 100% sure on what the thought process was for her, but she essentially realized a basic economic principle: If she could control the supply and demand for steel she could accelerate her profit margins.

So like any reasonable 12-14 year old, she bought out about twice as much steel as she sold. Flooding the market had almost halved the price, and she now was both the supply and demand. Of course, as a result of some mystery person buying tons of steel, the price went up again. So she went and sold it at the higher price. She spent about another week or two playing Carnegie before it got old and she retired to Lumbridge with fat stacks of gold and the finest armor money could buy (but she couldn’t wear due to low Defense level).

I found out from a friend later who was part of one of the big trade guilds that the big market guilds were all pissed that somehow the steel market had crashed, skyrocketed, then crashed in quick succession for no goddamn reason and all of them had lost thousands of coins in the process.

My favorite thing about this is that it validates my entire Master’s Degree. This. This is how games can develop incidental learning and teach kids valuable lessons. This 12 year girl figured out, and manipulated, a free market economy because she was bored. She was able to recognize, understand and utilize a fundamental principal of economics to entertain herself.

“In 1404, King Taejong fell from his horse during a hunting expedition. Embarrassed, looking to his left and right, he commanded, “Do not let the historian find out about this.” To his disappointment, the historian accompanying the hunting party included these words in the annals, in addition to a description of the king’s fall.“

LMFAOOOOOO rip to that guy

i thought maybe this was fake, but there’s even a citation!

Taejong Sillok Book 7. 5th year of King Taejong’s Reign (1404), February 8.

Happy 618th anniversary of the day King Taejong fell from his horse!

Apparently the recorders were really intense about this. We have a record of King Taejong complaining about a recorder who followed him on a hunt in disguise and another who eavesdropped on him behind a screen. No one was allowed to see the records, even the king (one king did and killed five men based on what was written there, after which they took greater care to ensure it would never happen again), and changing the content or disclosing it was a capital punishment. Even when there were rival political factions trying to influence the writers, they wrote down what was a revision and what wasn’t and kept an original version with no revisions in it.

They also made sure to back up their data. They made four copies of it, then when three copies were lost in the Imrim Wars they decided to make five more copies just in case. One copy was destroyed in a rebellion, another was partially damaged in an invasion, and Japan stole one copy during their occupation and moved it to Tokyo University, where it was mostly destroyed in the Kanto Earthquake (47 books remained and were returned to South Korea in 2006). Now the whole thing is digitized, free on the internet, and translated into modern Korean for all to see.

It took centuries of meticulous recorders, justifiably paranoid copiers, absolutely determined historians, and painstaking infrastructure for this joke to be possible. Happy 618th anniversary to the day King Taejong fell from his horse.
