Peruvian security forces carried out widespread attacks against protestors with “extrajudicial executions “and “widespread use of lethal ammunition” earlier this year, while trying to contain mass protests that started in December 2022, according to Amnesty International.
The rights group researched the deaths of 25 people killed in the regions of Ayacucho, Apurimac and Puno between December 7, 2022 and February 9, 2023. In total, 49 civilians were killed during the protests.
Amnesty International’s report found that many of the victims were younger than 21 years old, with six children among the cases documented.
The Andean country’s weeks-long protest movement was sparked by the impeachment and arrest of former President Pedro Castillo in December and fueled by deep dissatisfaction over living conditions and inequality in the country.
While protests occurred throughout the nation, the worst violence was in the rural and indigenous south, which saw Castillo’s ouster as another attempt by Peru’s coastal elites to discount them.
According to Amnesty, the country’s armed forces and national police used lethal force such as bullets and weapons prohibited in law enforcement tasks such as pellets in “an unlawful manner” during the documented period.
Less lethal force such as tear gas was also used in an “excessive, disproportionate and, sometimes, unnecessary manner,” the report states.

And this is why you cannot replace human experience with AI. Humans have the capacity for critical thinking. AI does not currently. It cannot problem solve or consider variables it hasn't been explicitly trained for. It's a powerful technology that can absolutely make our jobs easier if used correctly. But it is no replacement for an actual human being. I think a lot of companies - especially tech companies - are missing that point. I've played around with AI because I wanted to understand the new technology, and I've talked to a lot of people who know far more than me about both the technology itself, and the industries it is beginning to affect. I'm not afraid of AI copying my work as a creator - what I'm scared of are idiot clients who don't understand it's limitations, and make disastrous mistakes like this. AI written code, for example, is rapidly working it's way into apps and games, and even public infrastructure in a lot of cases - but that AI is trained off of open-source solutions that lack any form or robust security, meaning any bit of AI code can create a massive weak point in the security of a system, and open up it's users to attack. AI art is often stunning, and, yes an AI can generate pretty much anything - but trying to get it to generate something specific - especially something it has no training data on (like someone hanging upside down from the celling, or a character with a sword for an arm) is practically impossible. Sure, you can train an AI to generate that specific thing, but the time spent preparing training data and looping it through the bot to get decent results is almost always going to cost you more than just hiring an artist. And gods know that using AI to write things like scripts or novels is really just asking for unwelcome "surprises" - much like the one above. Ai cannot think, it can only iterate blindly based on the explicit information it is provided. It is used best as a tool for creatives to assist in their process - filling in tedious parts of the job, or helping develop a composition that will be refined and finalized by a human being. And to that effect, I actually encourage more Artists and creatives to play with AI? Not just because it is a technology that is inevitably going to become a part of what we do - weather we like it or not - but because engaging with it is a great way to better understand it's limits, and be able to explain those limits to clients, bosses, and the like, who think it can replace us. For me, it also went a long way in dismissing my concerns about AI being used to copy or clone my work - or anyone's for that matter. It's actually remarkably difficult to recreate someone's work, unless you are explicitly training a model off of exclusively that person's work. And *that* at least, is something that is simple to legislate against: The best thing I think creatives can do to combat AI right now is to learn more about it, and experiment with it ourselves. And by experiment with it ourselves, I 100% mean use it to copy anything held in copywrite by Disney. Ain't nobody gonna legislate on our behalf, but Disney will sure as hell push through laws to defend it's own IPs.

NBC quoted John Amann, the 77-year-old who spent more than $2,000 on Trump Bucks and other merchandise, as saying: “Now I’m questioning whether [Trump] is aware of this.”
Victims of the con invested thousands of dollars in the fake currency plastered with Trump’s face. One man told NBC he invested $2,200 in Trump Bucks and other merchandise, only to find the Trump Bucks were useless when he tried to cash them in at a bank.
A Bank of America spokesperson told NBC it was difficult to assess how many people had tried to cash in Trump Bucks.
The online retailer ClickBank said it had disabled websites selling the products.
“Any consumer purchasing these items through ClickBank received a pre-purchase disclosure that they are for commemorative value only and are not legal tender,” a spokesperson said.
“Still, ClickBank is concerned to hear that the products were being deceptive marketed elsewhere so we chose to discontinue sales even with our disclaimer.”
Following a Freedom of Information Act request from NBC, the Federal Trade Commission confirmed at least one fraud complaint against Patriots Dynasty, one of the companies behind the scheme, alongside Patriots Future and USA Patriots.
