Jane Austen’s name did not appear on the book, instead the writer was identified as “By the Author of ‘Sense and Sensibility’“ which had been published 2 years earlier and was still selling when Pride and Prejudice was published. Austen’s name had not appeared on her first novel either, but was attributed to “A Lady.”
