File under: even more blatant proof cis people can joke about trans people without it being at their expense
when i was a toddler i thought god was an imperceivable web of white pulsing membranes stretched over itself a million times and i thought he lived inside the wooden pulpit at my church
This is pure art.
For those curious, this was taken at the Oceti Sakowin camp during the No DAPL protests in Cannon Ball, North Dakota. The photograph is titled “Defend the Sacred” by Ryan Vizzions. I did not find the name of the subject on horseback.
Her name was Marissa Blacklance. #Dakota38 rider, & front line water protector at Standing Rock. She was killed by a drunk driver in January of 2018. Her mother is using this tragedy to make changes benefitting our community with the Yellow Scarf tribute.
one of the best things to come out of my decapitation hyperfixation has been learning that people collected and sold execution merch

@todoeralindo oh no
So for about 7 years now, the running gag has been that my wife is the piggy princess. WE DO NOT have time to cover the stupid jokes and cute conversations that led us here, but the jokes write themselves, honestly.
My VERY favorite thing I do for her is that I make Miss Piggy Themed parody shirts of cliché goth band shirts. I am very, very proud of these, btw.
I SAID IM PROUD OF THESE, GODDAMN IT
I WANT THE SIOUXIE ONE SO BAD THO
Respectfully King Arthur himself could not pull me out of you
This is fucking hilarious
Get you a man who's like

You know we only ever really "learn" how to bathe in our youth as it is taught to us by our parents and from then on most people kinda just bathe the same way right. And like barring actively deciding to do it the only way most people change their bathing habits is if they bathe with a loved one and get convinced to do somethi g different in the bath bc its cleaner/faster/whatever bc of them. Ok heres the thesis statement. The lack of communal bathing in society is holding us back from discovering The Ultimate Bathing
imagine if the oceans were replaced by forests and if you went into the forest the trees would get taller the deeper you went and there’d be thousands of undiscovered species and you could effectively walk across the ocean but the deeper you went, the darker it would be and the animals would get progressively scarier and more dangerous and instead of whales there’d be giant deer and just wow
you have a beautiful imagination
What if I told you… there’s a TTRPG for that!
Wildsea, by Felix Isaacs, is a game about a world in which a near-apocalyptic event called the Verdancy covered the planet in giant trees. You play wildsailors, aboard a vessel that cuts, saws, jumps or crawls through the treetops, hunting Leviathan beasts, salvaging bits and pieces of the world before, and uncovering Whispers of mysterious places. It’s a beautiful book and a wild, open, full-of-possibilities setting.
WILDSEA IS AMAZING
So TIL there’s more than -one- RPG for that. I should probably check out Wildsea.
When We All Lived in the Forest by yours truly, is a 24xx RPG based on a couple of old short fiction pieces I did ages ago.
In it, you play bearers, the folks who wander from town to town in enormous, lightless forest that’s covered the whole world, carrying a light as you go, because no one has seen the sky since the woods appeared, and there are things in the trees if you step off the path.
theres too many pokemon games where you play as a kid whos full of life and full of potential. there needs to be a pokemon game where you play as a college dropout who lives in a shitty apartment
your starter pokemon are trubbish, rattata and glameow. which symbolise the trash you keep forgetting to take out, the rats living in your walls and the stray cat you keep trying to befriend but it keeps hissing at you.
you guys dont get it its not supposed to be dark and edgy its supposed to be living in a mundane setting and slowly rediscovering the wonder in the world by going on a journey with a magical trash bag that is your friend, its about love and recovery and coping with the stress of your adult life with your friend who is made of sentient garbage
I’ve never been so attached to literal trash before
I am similarly attached to the sentient trash. Can't wait to take him on little adventures
Thinking about the Library of Alexandria.
Or at least the *myth* of the Library of Alexandria. You know, the greatest Library in the world, a monument of learning and reading and culture, cataclysmically destroyed in one terrible fire, knowledge lost forever, etc etc. It feels like this great tragedy of history, this terrible loss to humanity.
And it's not...true.
We actually have a lot of sources that show that the library had been in decline for a few centuries before then. Between some scholars getting exiled, a general diaspora of the scholars who remained, lack of funding, and diminishing prestige, it seems that the library's collection and scholarship was already greatly diminished, moved elsewhere.
It's true that Caesars troops did set fire to some ships in the harbor in 48BCE, and that fire did spread through the city. The Library was likely damaged, and some of its materials likely destroyed... but not completely. And it was repaired or rebuilt not long after. (One source even hints that it wasn't the library proper, but some warehouses owned by the library near the docks that burned.)
And the Library continued to exist for at least a few more centuries. Never at the same scale and prestige as it has at its height, but still there as a resource to scholars until at least the 270s CE.
But that's less exciting I guess. Less tragic, maybe. Less dramatic. That instead of it being a terrible accident, an act of the Gods, a perfect symbol at how the folly of war can tumble great monuments- Instead its just...about how underfunded Institutions and lack of support from the government towards academics will rot these great institutions slowly but surely.
And I wonder what it says about us that we find one of those stories more emotionally compelling and evocative than the other.
even if you're not a supernatural fan, if you've been on tumblr long enough you are, like, culturally. like cultural christianity in america except it's the cw's supernatural. you may never have watched an episode or set foot inside the tag but your regular life shuts down on their holidays and all of your world news is delivered through that point of view. something to think about
hey idk who needed to hear this but. being able to push yourself to function through pain does not, in fact, make you able bodied
if you were able bodied you wouldn’t be in pain at all. btw.
to be clear it is normal to be sore/have some pain if you’re doing high stress stuff like long runs, exercising, heavy lifting, etc etc. but if you’re in pain because you Walked or Stood Up. that’s not how your body is supposed to work.
The whole LGBT Positive Cave Johnson meme is fun and all, but when I try to picture it in a way that's actually consistent with his established characterisation, what I get is that boss who you're... pretty sure is cool with your Alternative Lifestyle? (The way he says it you can hear the caps.) You're just constantly ending up in interactions where you're asking yourself, okay, am I being microaggressed, or does he genuinely not know that's a slur? You never do figure it out.
/oh god, he's trying to be supportive, can he just call me a slur? Please just call me a slur, Cave, just one measely slur. For the love of the moon you just said "we believe you Trans Genders are the same as us Normals, and should have Equal Rights. please call me a slur or die suddenly please please/
we need to bring back genderqueer and genderfuck, we need to pull the "wouldn't you like to know weather boy" labels off the shelves again
