Why is it necessary that a piece of art "condemns" or "normalizes" something. Is it not enough for art to say "here are some fucked up people in some fucked up situations for your enjoyment"? The art doesn't have to judge them and neither do you. It's for your enjoyment.

"This art is Acceptable because it portrays the bad thing as BAD" "this art is Forbidden because it portrays the bad thing as GOOD" well fuckers I'm engaging with art that portrays the bad thing as A Spectacle. Come engage with me.

yknow i never noticed the sheer rareness of images having ids or alt text on this website until i started adding alt text to my art (and trying to remember to add it to any images i post in general, especially text screenshots) and that makes me kinda sad

I feel like a lot of people just don't know how to do it or are intimidated by the prospect. I was too, actually, and I couldn't find any good guides on how to do it (beyond basic formatting) and most guides boiled down to "just describe what you see and important details!" I really wanted to add alt text bc accessibility is important to me, but I would always get kinda stumped on how to do it.

But then I saw this image, I think in a discord server, and I immediately started doing it. It kinda broke the ice for me

D&D going mainstream really messed up people's expectations cause chances are you're not gonna find a DM who has the free time, talent and resources to put on a tale that competes with Tolkien. you're gonna find your friend's roommate Phil who's read one of the manuals a few times and has to pause to get a calculator out to figure out how much damage your attack did and his story is blatantly ripping off a dragon age 2 side quest

“average DM has 20 unique character voices" factoid actualy just statistical error. average DM actually has 3 unique character voice. Spiders Lee Mulligan, who has over 10,000 unique character voices, is an outlier adn should not have been counted”

Okay but this is exactly what I love.

The above image is a historical artifact. Colima dog. It dates back to circa 100 BCE-300 CE. (x)

And, around two thousand years later it was originally shaped with care, painted with love, and adored… someone draws it. Draws it using a new technological device that allows modern people to shape things with care, paint with love, and even move them -on a screen, glowing.

And the said person decides to share it with the world. The whole world adores it.

I love the connection between past and today. We were humans back then, and we are still the same.

Cute dog :)

For the first 25 minutes, the Arizona Senate's floor session on March 18th was unremarkable.
Then, state Sen. Eva Burch stood up and announced to her colleagues that she was pregnant, and planned to get an abortion.
Detailing a deeply personal medical history of past miscarriages, Burch told her fellow lawmakers that she made the decision to seek an abortion after discovering that her fetus is not viable.
"I don't think people should have to justify their abortions," Burch, a Democrat, told the chamber.
"But I'm choosing to talk about why I made this decision, because I want us to be able to have meaningful conversations about the reality of how the work that we do in this body impacts people in the real world," she said, in reference to the state's 15-week abortion ban, passed in 2022.
It's not the first time Burch has spoken publicly about the topic — in the past, the lawmaker has openly talked an abortion she received in 2022, before taking office.
That time, Burch says, she also had a non-viable pregnancy, and began to miscarry the night before a scheduled abortion. She says she went to a hospital, where she was unable to obtain an emergency abortion.
"I had been bleeding and passing huge clots for hours, but I wasn't bleeding out, and I was still pregnant," Burch remembers. "So I was offered medication to make me start bleeding again and told that I could have a procedure when I had bled enough."
She did receive abortion services the next day — two weeks before clinics in Arizona began to shut down following the U.S. Supreme Court's Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v Wade.
This time, Burch had to contend with the new abortion regulations passed by the state in the wake of the Dobbs decision, which she says made finding and obtaining care even more difficult and drawn-out.
Burch, who is also a nurse practitioner, says the current law requires her provider to give a list of "absolute disinformation" as well as what Burch describes as an "unnecessary" ultrasound, plus counseling designed to change the minds of patients with viable pregnancies.
"I was told that I could choose adoption; I was told that I could choose parenting, which were two things that I couldn't choose," Burch said. "And it was cruel to suggest that that was an option for me when it's not."

fairytales which tell you to be both kind and clever fairytales that say to be kind is to be clever and to be clever is to be kind fairytales that say the cleverest thing you can ever do is choose kindness and that cruelty or thoughtlessness are always foolish but not kindness never kindness

you bring oil for the gate and food for the dog and clean out the oven and bake bread in it and the oven will hide you and the dog will not betray you and the gate will stay open for you and close on your pursuers, to be clever is just to know that if you are good in a world made of rules, goodness will be returned to you.

In [fairy tales], power is rarely the right tool for survival anyway. Rather the powerless thrive on alliances, often in the form of reciprocated acts of kindness —from beehives that were not raided, birds that were not killed but set free or fed, old women who were saluted with respect. Kindness sown among the meek is harvested in crisis.

I think personal labels can be useful for “there’s a word for it”, “I’m not alone”, and “oh neat, I know what to put in a search engine now” reasons, but I also think they can be troublesome.

Plenty of people won’t fit 100% neatly into a label, and when they encounter a rare exception to what is otherwise an accurate label for them, it can feel like an identity crisis.

The labels aren’t literally what you are. They’re words. They’re meant to assist communication and organization, not to control you.

I know people like to interpret Paul as an outright villain of the story and while that's not unreasonable, I personally love another interpretation.

It doesn't matter if you are a kind person with good intentions, it doesn't matter if you are smarter that anyone else and it doesn't matter if you can literally see the future, NO ONE has the right to hold absolute power over other people.

Systems with strict vertical hierarchy cause oppression. There is no way around it. Even that one guy who you think is better than that shouldn't be put at the top.

Paul being portrayed with many positive character traits doesn't muddy the message, it enhances it.

The entire point is that power corrupts good people. Paul was the absolute goodest of dudes, and did everything he could to avoid fulfilling his Terrible Purpose. But it doesn’t matter how good he is, because it’s a purpose others designed him for and have put him in position to fulfill. Once he’s gotten caught up in the cogs of others’ plans for him, there’s nothing he can do to stop what’s coming. That’s why he gives up trying to avoid the Holy War once he reaches peak prescience… he realizes it’s not in his control to change, because he’s nothing but a tool for others to use.

Like, if people interpret it as “Paul was never good” then what the fuck were they watching/reading?

Context! This is called a Jack and Jill! It's a contest in a style called West Coast Swing.

Here's the thing... it's ALL improv. The whole thing. And those two? Randomly matched.

Dance is a sport where strangers fall madly in love for a few minutes. And I need more all the time.

damn, what sorcery that she's doing that in BOOTS?

I’m sorry, wait stop. That was IMPROV???

There's a bunch of adhd advice out there that's like "people with adhd tend to work better under deadlines due to the anxiety so here are ways to artificially induce a stress response in order to get you to get work done" and it's like well what if I don't want to be stressed out all the time in order to function
