steve thinks jonathan is so pretty

he thinks he's so pretty and he wants to show him off even when jonathan wants to hide, when jonathan wants to be non-present and invisible steve wants to show him off because wow he's so pretty. he's so pretty steve stares at him for hours on end when they're together for long enough, long enough to stare when jonathan isn't looking (as he loves to do) and not move a muscle when jonathan catches him. steve thinks jonathan is so pretty he has his frown lines memorized and his smile lines and his angry face (which he is very familiar with) and his happy-to-see-him face (almost as familiar with) memorized. he knows this boy inside and out upside and down front to back, he is obsessed.

god church is such a tragic character to me. he’s brought back time and time again by those he loves but he’s always expected to be someone he used to be. he even tries to do the same to tex, just to bring her back one more time, but he never gets it right. they’re just living in echoes of each other, knowing who they’re supposed to be but not who they want to be.

but they’re still so loved by those around them even if they’re not the same anymore. god and when he has to say goodbye one more time, knowing that this was the last time he would be brought back, that there’s no coming back from this, do you think he felt at home with who he was? do you think there was a part of him that felt like “okay, this is it, this is who i am”? do you think he felt as if he lived his own life rather than the one of someone before him? was he satisfied? it hurts to think about.
