Why is my movie I’m illegally watching online buffering so much? This is not what I didn’t pay for.
And the representant for @tmblrvision 2018 is the enchanting Florence + The Machine with their song Big God. Good luck to everybody and see you in Tel Aviv!

E•MO•TION (2015) E•MO•TION Side B (2016)
I’ve already seen a lot of Eurovision-related bullshit on Tumblr, but this is actually the first one of its 2018 edition that somewhat offended me. I more or less respect that even 12 year old illiterate girls who never properly studied a map of Europe have right to be fans of Eurovision, but I feel like my duty to point out that:
1.) Out of those 3 young men, literally NONE is related in any way to Balkan.
2.) Only two of them (Mélovin and Alekseev - both from Ukraine) are Slavs. It’s relatively common mistake and I understand it might be confusing that Czechs are not Slavic while their language is, but that’s how things are. Deal with it. Anthropologically speaking, Czechs are mixture of Germans and Celts, if somebody’s interested to actually know before they have fun with this degradating labels.
3.) Whether we love them or hate them, I think that pretty much all of us would agree that Ukrainian and Belarussian entries for this year are typical ESC songs fulfilling the definition of so-called eurotrash (songs tailor-made specifically for Eurovision to please lowest common denominators of otherwise pretty much diverse European music tastes), while Lie To Me is song from the actual world outside of the Eurovision bubble.
So, for all those reasons, I really don’t think Mikolas would have been happy with such nonsencial connection, forcedly made-up just for the purpose of the usual tumblr male objectification, matronizing, creepy shipping and silly fangirling in general. Howgh.
As a Czech ESC fan who’s been in the fandom since around 2014 i think the OP meant Baltic boys from 2016 not balkan which was memed as squad goals. Which i think was nice considering they really all met and embraced it and called themselves Baltic boys.
About Czech gene pool, look i get it. You read the research. Most are of german descent but that does not mean automatically everyone? There are people with slavic ancestry and I’m not sure if it’s just because I’m here around surrounded by Moravians and Silesians but we do consider ourselves slavic in general?
And speaking of the songs oh well. I think everyone is entitled to an opinion and honestly imo Mikolas’ song is entirely trash for me and I’m sure the song was written for ESC in mind (aside from the fact that there are swear words, that will have to be changed lmao) and just if anyone’s wondeeing Alekseev’s song isn’t really that good for me but I liked Mélovin. 🤷🤷🤷
That were my two cents on this.
You are probably right about the “Baltic Boys” (that was seriously degradating as well in my opinion), but that doesn’t change anything I am saying neither about it’s morally questionable purposes nor about uneducated girls with bad knowledge of European geography. ;-)
To call Czech Slavs just because there are some Slavs living here is the same nonsense as if you would call Britons Slavs because of that strong Polish and Lithuanian diaspora. ;-) Of course none country could say its inhabitants consist only from people of one ethnic origin, but that has absolutely nothing to do.with this anthropological categorization. I am especially (over)sensitive about this, remembering very well how this “Czechs are Slavs” nonsense was used for purposes of Russian political propaganda. Well, I said “was” but I should say “is”. And exactly according to Joseph Goebbels mantra “a lie repeated 100 times becomes reality”, there really is considerable part of Czechs who believe this. You are right in that as well, but again, it only shows how dangerous this is.
Since you are so new in the family of ESC-followers, it’s understandable that you don’t know term “eurotrash”. It’s not meant to be a classification of quality (I don’t really mind none of those songs, actually). Eurotrash is a terminus technicus used for this specific Eurovisinoesque genre (by Eurovision bloggers, journalist and members of ESC-related forums), as well as “Disney ballad” or “troll entry”. To give you some examples - “Have Some Fun” by Tereza Kerndlová is a typical eurotrash, while Gabriela Gunčíková’s “I Stand” is typical Disney ballad (including that cute little fact it was written by two Swedes) and Gipsy CZ’s “Aven Romale” is essential troll entry. Mikolas’s song doesn’t fully belong to any of those three categories, although it is somewhat flirting with the third one due to its intertextual, semi-parodic nature. I am perfectly OK with the fact you personaly don’t like it, but again, that was not my point at all.
And just one little side note about Belarus: I am quite sure it will get disqualified anyway, as soon as EBU finds out that Forever’s chorus is basically a note-by-note plagiat of this:
ok whatever but i know what eurotrash means and i wouldn’t put it there really but ok and lets be honest ebu didn’t bother disqualifying songs in past for rip-offs so don’t hold your breath for this one since it’s most likely not going to happen
