What's Your Problem?

@modernsyndrome

i can’t read about a lesbian bar in France being vandalized with “fuck terfs” and not think “en anglais? really?”

like if you don’t have the language to express your ideas in your own language, are those ideas really your own, and not, say, an obviously american import?

I'm from Brazil. Among 'queer', young people, using English is really looked down upon. Using English slang, referencing USA pop culture, talking about USA history, is seen as furthering the third world mindset of subservience to our neocolonizers. We don't talk about Stonewall, we don't talk about Milk, we don't talk about Ru Paul's Drag Race, we don't talk about San Francisco Pride, we don't talk about /anything/ USA related. we have our own culture.

And yet, there's the one exception: radfem and TERF. Openly called that, even though TERF makes no sense translated to Portuguese, even though in Portuguese it's feminista radical, not radical feminist. We see stickers on walls and piche with FUCK TERFS all the time. And it's starting to sink in to me how that just goes to show how it's not a genuine idea you hold: it's something you pick up.

If they're so preoccupied with upholding our own culture and ideas, why doesn't this discourse of fuck TERFS get adapted to a country's reality? Well, we know the answer, but still.

I actually like that all media is now created to be thoughtlessly consumed within a single alloted month before it's destroyed by business guys whose stated favourite book is a dingy unread copy of The Art of War they left on their bedside to "reference". it's cool that everything is just one middling budget twelve episode season and half of it is dropped all at once directly onto streaming services so you have to sit down for six miserable hours to watch it in the most antisocial way possible. this is probably how art was meant to be consumed. this is how humans best process things, like death.

I let it all pass over me like a limp breeze. did I see the new show? oh no, and I suppose I will not, but that's okay because I don't feel much of anything at all about it. [pleasantly] I don't feel much of anything at all.

don't date men who watch porn. like that's absolutely a deal breaker. in the last like 3+ months if he's watched porn, absolutely not.

and only if he acknowledges how it harms women, don't date a man who stopped for his own sake because he'll go back for his own sake, too.

do not date men who don't see women as people. do not date men who don't see porn as one of the worst most pervasive violently misogynistic evil forces on the planet. for women's sake, not his.

Like now that I am awake I need to reiterate how huge this is. It was presumed harvested to extinction by the Romans. It was a favorite flavoring and according to historians one of the best contraceptives ever known. True or not it would be fantastic to study that but it being extinct made that impossible.

This is such a huge deal! I hope they get it figured how to grow it.

For those worried about the crew having to do a whole job just for one person, flight staff only get paid for time they're in the air; if he'd cancelled, they wouldn't have gotten paid for zip.

So in other words, he gave them an easy day where they can spend most of it on break, and also airplane staff should unionize.

Also the plane likely has to get to NC somehow so you might as well have fun with it

idc give every woman who wants to exit prostitution 100 000 euros and put her in training with the perspective of a well paying job. you will see that even the women who claim to do it because they love sex will jump at that opportunity, because truly it has been about money all along and you can start having the sex you actually desire

hate to be this person but there’s this neat new feature where you can make your own post. this comment is completely out of place on this one

"what makes coerced sex work different than other coerced work?" the sex. it’s almost like coerced sex is a crime and coerced cooking is not. isn’t that insane.

This is paraphrasing but I think it was Meghan Murphy who said ‘are we really going to pretend that having sex with someone we don’t desire is the same as selling coffee to people we don’t like?’
