Some things:

  • This does not take effect until October, and it's a review/panel process that will likely take months with each case.
  • The law was designed to remove prosecutors who didn't prosecute crimes (like marijuana and abortion - shocker), so it'll be some real convoluted reasoning, whatever they pursue.
  • The law might still be controversial among the GA GOP, and it's yet to be seen how it might play out even within their own party in regards to Willis.
  • Most importantly, the law goes against the GA state constitution, which specifically gives oversight of DAs to the judicial branch. The legislature already has a tool - impeachment.

Because of this last point, 4 DAs have already brought litigation against the law - and many believe they are likely to succeed. If not adjudicated by then, any efforts to invoke it against a DA in an ongoing investigation would likely be stayed until a decision is reached. And I have a sneaking suspicion the judicial branch will not be too keen on the legislature usurping their power. A very similar effort by the state legislature failed in NY 2 years ago.

So not worth panicking over yet, but it's something to pay attention to and be vigilant about.

If you live in the US and you have a phone you need to keep secret for any reason, make sure that it is turned off at this time.

Yes, I'm doing this months in advance, and yes, my blog has very little reach, but I figure better to post about it more than less.

Please reblog and add better tags than mine, I'm bad at tags.
