French Toaster

@moderatetobelowaverage

hello! I am a real human person, I post things sometimes, and will likely flood your dash with my reblogs should you choose to curse yourself by following me. /I make killer French toast/ I reblog furry art sometimes, this is your problem.

actually re joking about being ‘the piracy friend’. do yourself a favour and stop relying on tumblr masterlists that are full of broken links and dodgy websites and just bookmark r/FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH’s piracy wiki (backup).

it’s the most comprehensive resource i’ve ever encountered my life and it’s also got so much extra stuff like decent free vpns/antivirus/adblock, a massive list of free software for almost every purpose you can think of, AND a list of custom search engines that mean you can search every site at once or you’re looking for something more obscure (this is how i seem to always have a link to literally anything)

there’s also this rentry, which i can vouch for less because i don’t use it so much but does have info on installing cracked versions of the more popular antivirus programs if you don’t want to pay but also don’t want to trust the free options lol

be gay do crimes

one of the reasons why “what if people went on a road trip and it was weird” is one of the oldest story types is that a lot of sense of personhood has been, historically, tied to place. the weird road trip says “what if we went somewhere else, where no one knows us, and tried out being a different person”.

Odysseus, the famous liar, goes on a weird road trip & over the course of it becomes several different people, and then comes home & is all those people as well as himself, wearing the echoes of those other people

What’s that quote? There are only two kinds of stories: a man goes on a journey, or a stranger comes to town.

it would be cool if fat dudes without big beards were considered hot sometimes too.

I realized today that the main reason for the “hot fat dude must also include beard” thing is part of the whole “fat people are required to perform a higher and more perfect expression of gender”.

like usually this sort of thing is more easily identifiable in fat women, who have to be hyper feminine to be considered “attractive” by the mainstream.  but I sort of blinked today and realized, oh.  fat men must have beards to be attractive for the same reason fat men must wear suits and look dapper to be attractive, just like fat women have to have perfect eyeliner and wear cute pinup clothing.  higher, more intense expression of gender, executed perfectly and without flaw is required for fat people to be seen as attractive.

i think it’s important to mention a major thing a beard does, other than potentially act as part of a performance of masculinity, is cover double chins. i legitimately feel leaving that out is a major oversight. double chins are societally reviled and rarely ever depicted in supposedly fat positive art.

i’ve known fat women to literally tape the skin of their neck up under their hair to try to get rid of them– not to mention trying to contour them away with makeup. (i’ve personally done both. let’s talk about the utter misery of trying to exist in public with your skin taped and painted in place, terrified if any of it fails you will be treated as disgusting.) and fat men must grow a beard, and just the right kind of hyper-groomed beard, lest they be labeled disgusting neckbeards. fat people of all genders are compelled to “learn their angles” for photos, so they can create the illusion of not having double chins if only in still images. do you know how many photos with loved ones your fat friends duck out of because they can’t know how it will turn out, and don’t want to be mocked?

accept double chins as normal. accept that you can be attracted to people with double chins. stop requiring heightened gender performance and discomfort from fat people. stop forcing tape and makeup and beards and tactical angles on fat people.

i think we should remember Harcourt Payne and Edward de Lacy Evans, two Australian trans men who were both labeled mentally ill and institutionalized in order to force them to detransition.

Harcourt Payne was outed after collapsing in the street and being taken to a hospital, where he was forced to bathe. While there was no law that they could charge him with for being trans, they labeled him mentally ill in order to keep him in psychiatric hospitals where he was forced to wear women's clothing. He died a year later.

Edward de Lacy Evans was admitted to a psychiatric hospital first, and then outed when he was forcibly stripped after resisting a bath. The doctors not only tried to make him wear women's clothing, but also forced extremely invasive genital exams which deeply traumatized him. Newspapers became obsessed with his story and speculating over his "mental illness," which led to a photographer sneaking into the asylum to take pictures of him. After his release, he appeared in a traveling carnival freakshow as an oddity. He lived the rest of his life as a woman.

They are not the only trans men whose transness has been pathologized to justify torturing them into detransitioning. There is a very long history of cis society treating transmasculinity as a sickness which proves that a "woman" is out of her mind and needs to be forcibly "cured."

Remember: transmasculine erasure is not protection against violence. It is a cover-up.

How many times would you think trans men have been diagnosed with "hysteria" for their transmasculity? Probably a lot

abled ppl have really said some stupid shit to me about my chronic illness like “have you tried eating less tomatoes” like yeah im sure thats the problem. tomatoes.

Avatar

You know what? I'm going to write it.

THAT IS NOT BEING ABLEIST.

I literally had a medical condition that was boosted by tomatoes. I am NOT allergic to tomatoes, but as soon as I eat them, I react heavily (clinically relevant heavily) to mosquito bites.

Now ask me about the amount of doctors or other medical staff who told me it could be related to me eating tomatoes. The answer is ZERO. Null. None.

You know how I came to know it was the fucking tomatoes? Because some random person at work suggested it!!

STOP telling people who try to be helpful, who share knowledge, who infodump that they're ableist!! THEY'RE NOT!!

They didn’t say it was ableist, they said an abled person said it.

Sorry, @notjustanyannie, for the following rant. It is not targeting you as a person! It's really not intending to! I'm just so sad and hurt by the topic. Sorry again. 🙁

The tags of the original post say "ableism".

the problem here (on top of you being incredibly condescending in your original reply, telling me that I don’t know what ableism means) is you are also being incredibly presumptuous about what it is I find ableist about these situations. It’s not about “sharing information,” it’s the constant assumption that my illness is *my fault* and theres always something I could be doing differently or something I don’t already know. I’ve literally lived with it all my life and done all of the research and consulted all of the doctors I can, and “have you tried this?” has always been unsolicited! It’s also been used frequently to say “well you shouldn’t complain/use mobility aids/call yourself disabled because you haven’t tried this yet.” That is ableism! Is it malicious, no, of course not most of the time. I’m sorry you feel i’m attacking your emotional support abled people! maybe also consider the ableist implications of going onto a disabled persons post and telling them they don’t know what ableism means!!!!!!!!!!!
