Call me tactless if you'd like, but why on earth would you try to go 12500 ft down into the ocean when the Titan IMPLODED. what would you recover from that??? why can't we focus this energy on finding and recovering the bodies of those missing migrants (estimated to be 400-750 of them)??? why was there no international response to work together tirelessly around the clock searching for them like there was for these 5 rich men who WILLINGLY PAID hundreds of thousands of dollars to risk their lives on a submersible that has gotten lost before (it's lost contact briefly with the ship that drops it off I believe) and was not even equipped with an emergency locator beacon???
why are we prioritizing 5 dead people who made an astonishingly stupid choice despite repeated warnings AND having all the money in the world to fix safety issues, over hundreds of missing migrants who likely had no choice but to try and leave their home country for Europe?
why do we care more about people who cared so little about their safety that they refused to spend any of their wealth on making the submersible safer, than we do about people who were trying desperately with any option available to them to get to a safer country?

"masculinity" is not glorified when it's the Wrong Kind of Masculine. trans masculinity is not glorified. queer masculinity is not glorified. a woman's masculinity is not glorified. men of colors' masculinities might be fetishized, but they are not glorified.
a space is not "dominated by masculinity", it's dominated by patriarchal ideas of manhood: cis, white, straight, abled men who look and act a certain way.

i’ve talked abt this before but the ideal of jewish manhood is so vastly different from white western manhood. it prioritizes studying torah and talmud, family, community, hyperindividualism is very much not a feature of traditional jewish masculinity. there are some communities where the ideal life of a jewish man is to literally study all day while his wife is the breadwinner for the family. very different from what white westerners are used to. and they do not like that. the ideals of jewish masculinity are turned into the butt of so many jew jokes. look at that guy, such a nerd, not athletic, cares too much about what his mommy thinks, he’s not a real man! and going back even further, europeans were so uncomfortable with jewish men and their refusal to assimilate into white european standards of masculinity that there is an entire trope from the middle ages that jewish (cis) men menstruated.
back before i started t and was just figuring out that i wanted to present more masc, as soon as i started wearing more masculine clothes, the way ppl treated me changed. suddenly people weren’t as friendly with me. i wasn’t given the benefit of the doubt. i was seen as more confrontational. nothing about me changed. i just cut my hair and wore different clothes. but because i wasn’t performing womanhood to white cis standards anymore, my societal value tanked.
and i cannot tell you how many of my black trans masc friends or mutuals have talked about the increased levels of violence and policing they face when they start to pass or present more masculine. just a few weeks ago a black trans man was murdered by a security guard, and afaik there was no conviction.
so when you say “masculinity is rewarded” you need to ask yourself what you mean by “masculinity.” bc it’s probably, as stated in the op, that assimilation into white patriarchal manhood is rewarded.

I honestly think that the lack of non-sexual nudity in public spaces has done horrific damage to American society.
We deeply struggle to understand the natural diversity of bodies because we only see naked bodies in a sexual context. We are taught that seeing nudity is somehow inherently harmful, especially to children. We struggle to differentiate between sexually suggestive and sexually explicit material.
It fucks up the way people think about and talk about sex ed. It fucks up the way people think about and talk about breast feeding. It fucks up the way people think about and talk about queer folks. It feeds into fatphobia and ableism and is all rooted in this deeply harmful puritanism.
Like, I need people to understand that seeing a bare titty in public is not going to hurt a child. Seeing a man in a banana hammock isn't inherently traumatizing. I would argue, in fact, that adults treating those things as dangerous and gross and scary is going to do way more damage to a kid's psychology than seeing the nudity in the first place.
