One of the biggest problems I have with MAMAs or AAAs is that they say its an award show for Asians but the only people representing the nominations are Korean. You never see people like Ayumi Hamasaki, Jolin Tsai, AKB48, any of the EXILE Tribe, Kris Wu, Lu Han, other huge Asian artists in the continent of Asia nominated for anything. These artists are just as big as Korean artists, if you don’t think thats true go look up a song from one of the artists I mentioned above. They have songs that have millions of views, not just 1 or 2 million, but 50M or 100M, so they are popular and well known.
For the MAMA’s I’m not that surprised knowing Mnet owns the award show, YET still invites non Korean artists to perform but don’t get to win anything and also host the show in another country. In the ASIA Artist Awards, almost all awards are awarded to Korean artists. This year, The Rampage who is a Japanese boy group, won a New Artist award which is nice, but you know what, their thank you speech was in Korean which was impressive but don’t you think they could have just said the speech in Japanese? I know they were the only Japanese group there, but they would have been so much comfortable just saying the award speech in their language.
I’m a huge kpop fan but Its really not fair to all those hard working artists who have been there for years, (some decades) but don’t even get nominated for an award like that. Asia isn’t just all Korea, its 48 countries. They should be represented in an Asian Music Award show too. If it says ASIAN i’m expecting artists from Korea, Japan, Thailand, Philippines, China, and many more countries to be there. But its really “Mnet Korean Music Awards” and “Korean Artist Awards” not no MAMA or AAA. They should just change it if all the artists winning and performing are Korean cause that title is misleading.
