I'm here to alleviate boredom. Very much an adult, but I'm not going to list my age publicly. Enjoy your stay!

This is one of the most adorable Pride posts I’ve ever seen

What I love about the imagery of the turtle is that it’s sending the message that they are protecting themselves by being in their shell. It’s not about deceiving straight people (like we are often told), but about the turtle’s own safety. They’ll come out when the time is right and they feel comfortable. 💕🏳️‍🌈

"When our allies make the choice to step back out of the path of violence and scorn, queer people don't get that choice.

"So when you step back, you leave us up front to absorb all of it. Alone."

If this doesn't make you angry, you are not paying attention🤬🤬🤬

Christofascist playbook: Republican death squads and stochastic terror.

I am queuing this for about 400 posts from today, knowing that this will be just as accurate and relevant then as it is now, May 8, 2023. You won't remember, but a right wing domestic terrorist murdered ten people in a mall in Texas today. When this posts, at some point in my future, the only thing that will have changed is the number of innocent people who were murdered because it's the guns.

This came across my dash on May 24, 2023. A student was shot and killed outside their school in Pittsburgh this morning.

It's the guns.

All it means when people say “you’re speaking from a place of privilege” is that you’re likely to underestimate how bad the problem is by default because you are never personally exposed to that problem. It’s not a moral judgement of how difficult your life is.

^^^^^^ read it. say it out loud. keep repeating it until you understand.

I think it’d be a good idea to let people from the Middle Ages use tumblr

anti vaxxers

look into my eyes and tell me a person from the Middle Ages who lost 3 kids by the time they are 25 and coughs up blood every now and then would be against a vial with a heaven-sent potion that can protect you from the demons that plague the Earth with just one small prick. look into my eyes and lie to me

Finally I can use this.

They would love vaccines.

THERE IT IS AGAIN!  THERE IT FUCKING IS!  i’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS PHOTO FOR YEARS AND NEVER COULD FIND IT!!  THE LAN PARTY WITH THE GUY DUCT-TAPED TO THE CEILING!!  BACK IN ANCIENT TIMES WHEN PEOPLE STILL USED CATHODE MONITORS AND WHEN COUNTERSTRIKE WAS THE NEW THING.  THIS SHIT IS REAL.  THIS IS REAL SHIT.  SHIT THAT HAPPENED.

Blackundertaker for the link. So kotaku did an interview with a butch of people to track down the people connected with the LAN party.

From the article.

The picture in question originates from Mason, Michigan, where a close group of friends who liked to build personal computers and organize LAN parties grew up. Through Reddit and email, we were able to get in touch with a large portion of the group, as well as obtain verification and additional images…

For the Mason alumni, the night they taped Drew Purvis to the ceiling was just an average day, another LAN party with friends.

“It was still early in the day and the LAN had already become fractured,” said Nick Wellman, another LAN goer. “There were about 10 of us there, and we were already playing three, four different games. Tyler was looking around and said, ‘I think you can duct tape someone to that I-beam.’”

At this point, the teens gathered the necessary supplies, bought duct tape on a friend’s employee discount and had the tallest attendee, Brian, hold the subject, Drew, aloft while the rest taped him up.

What you see in the now-iconic photo is actually the group’s second attempt to suspend their friend from the ceiling with duct tape. After about 10 minutes, the tape digging into his sides, Drew asked to be cut down. They revised their plan, adding pillows, and strapped him back up. Once on the beam, someone else had the idea to stack some tables up so Drew could still play on his computer.

“That is the funniest part about the picture,” Nick told us. “Gaming from the beam was a complete afterthought.”

Drew lasted about two hours suspended above his comrades before retiring to the ground (turns out a duct tape cocoon runs hot).

omg imagine being born and you are on a spaceship and everyone aboard is sooo so mad at you just because you burst out of some guy's chest to be born. like um sorry i've not been alive before i didn't even know that's not allowed please be nice to me um the spaceship floor is cold is no one going to knit me some little booties i am calling child protective services

That right there is a good solid burger patty with the intriguing addition of middle eastern spices 👀👀👀 (and as we all know variety is the spice of life, and spice is the variety of food.) I’m also intrigued by how she put the patty in the pita(?) which makes it a sort of burger panini. It looks good and I am going to have to try it.

I want to make this for my family, but my mom’s pretty iffy on beef that is anything but well done (dry as fuck) so I’m wondering how to cook it throughly enough without burning the bread.

Avatar

You can cook it in very thin pita with a thin layer of minced beef/lamb so that the meat is cooked brown all the way through in only 1 minute per side.

But also! Red Meat is “Well Done” at 160F/72C (white meat is 165F/75C). Bread actually doesn’t even toast until 255F/123C!!

So, if you make the full size patties in a frying pan on a low-medium heat, or an oven set to 300F/150C, it will take about 20 minutes to cook instead of only 3 minutes, but it will DEFINITELY not burn the bread, and the meat will be VERY well done.

Here is the oven based recipe I suggested elsewhere on the post

If this interests you, can I also introduce you to Hawawshi? (Minced meat stuffed in Egyptian pita bread)
