Interactive fiction about a group of agents with superpowers who travel the world and protect the Child of Light by acetheyul (he/him)🏳️‍⚧️

The Story

You’ve worked hard to build the life you have.

You live in New York, completed your education with good grades, landed your dream job and it seems perfect on paper. Your coworkers are friendly and your work brings new challenges each day.

Others would envy the stability and success you’ve achieved for yourself.

So why does it feel like something is missing?

Now that you’ve reached your goals, why does the life you imagined leaves you feeling empty?

It’s hard to shake the nagging feeling that there must be something more out there, something beyond the ordinary life you’ve built. But what can you do? You can’t just quit, can you?

However when an old friend—someone you had a falling out with years ago—contacts you again, demanding that you owe him something. You, despite knowing he’s involved with shady people, agree to work with him.

For the first time in a long while, you feel alive, full of adrenaline—this is what you were missing, right?

But things quickly spiral out of control. What he has drawn you into is far deeper than you ever imagined.

The world you thought you knew is only a small part of a hidden, dangerous reality.

You soon discover that your coworkers are secret agents and when unexpected superpowers awaken within you, you realize that you have no choice but to join them, now that you are a part of this big mess.

As a new member of the secret, independent organization known as the Cryptic Order (CO), you travel across the globe, protecting the Child of Light—the key to defeating a looming and powerful threat.

Every choice you make will shape your path, your relationships, and your destiny, all while uncovering secrets that challenge everything you thought you knew.

The stakes are higher than you ever imagined and the future of the world—along with the life of the Child of Light—depend on you and your team.

But as time goes on, you may begin to wonder if your old normal life maybe wasn't so bad after all.

Mission Light - Update 17.06.2025

Hey guys, it's me again :)

There is still no new content, but since my exam is over now, and I am done planning the romances for now, I hope I can add some new writing soon.

For now, that's it for the update.

Since it is so short again, I have another portrait I did to relax while studying two weeks ago.

This is also how my current art style looks like :)

This is Dominic, Anekas brother, who you will meet for the first time in the chapter I am currently writing, he is also really close to Min.

That’s it for now :)

Take care,

Jakob

Mission Light - Update 06.06.2025 + Art

Hello guys, it’s me again :)

There is still no new in game content, I am still planning the next chapter, mostly the romance and friendship routes/stories, and I am currently mostly studying for an upcoming exam next week. Also, it’s my 22nd birthday on Monday.

However I do plan to answer the remaining ask I got soon :)

Since this would be a rather short and boring update, I wanted to share a portrait I did back in December (so it's a little older already and also now that I look at it, not completely finished, but oh well :)) of a character that is going to be really important in the 5th chapter in the future, and is someone from Noel's past.

His name is Aleksandr Radziewicz and as you can guess from the name he is polish :)

That’s it for now :)

Take care,

Jakob

Anonymous asked:

I think what the oblivious MC anon meant was: how would RO's *pursuing* MC react to MC being oblivious about that pursuit? You know, not in the 'respect my choices' way.

First of all, there was no new weekly update and there also isn't one this week, I didn’t make one because there’s no new writing. I’ve spent the last few weeks planning, doing character work, and dealing with some stress, so yeah :)

(As always, since Mission Light is a work in progress, some things could change in the future, but that is what comes to my mind, when I think about the characters/what I imagine.)

Sinan:

He would eventually tell the MC how he feels, explain what he’s been trying to signal or do, and then ask how the MC feels about it.

He’s maybe a little frustrated, not specifically with the MC, but in general, because he’s getting nothing in return: no flirting, no rejection, no signals at all.

He just needs to know what’s going on so he can either try to move on or… yeah. And then, based on the MC’s response, he’ll decide what to do next.

Nayla:

She might hint that she’s pursuing the MC or has feelings, try even harder, or ask more general questions like whether the MC is interested in dating anyone or wants a relationship.

From there, she’d decide whether to keep going, maybe even confess outright, or stop. She would be a little heartbroken and need some space, but ultimately, if the MC is happy, then so is she.

Aneka:

She is aromantic. Aromantic people can still be in romantic relationships, and how they feel or behave in them varies from person to person. But Aneka generally doesn’t pursue people romantically, so yeah.

Hongyu:

He’s demiromantic, and generally doesn’t pursue others romantically, only sexually here and there.

For him to act, it has to be mutual and clearly expressed, but even then, he tends to respond more when someone else directly shows interest, either romantically or sexually.

Otherwise, he might not even realize he has feelings, or that he’s interested in dating the MC.

If he does, he might just bury those feelings and never bring them up, or misinterpret them, intentionally or not, as platonic affection or something else entirely.

Miguel:

He would try way too hard. It would be obvious to others because he’s a little awkward and unsure, though not so much to himself.

Maybe someone would eventually tell him, probably way too late, that the MC clearly isn’t interested or isn’t picking up on his efforts.

There are two ways I see him reacting:

He might or might not give up because he’s embarrassed, not wanting the MC to know he was trying to pursue them. And he wouldn’t want others to notice either. (It depends on the situation and person.)

Still, he might continue doing things for the MC as if he’s still pursuing them, unconsciously, because he still has feelings, or maybe even because he still has some left over hope that the MC will eventually pick up on it and react.

He’d be hurt, probably down, act differently, and blame himself for not seeing it sooner.

Or, he might confess. It would be really hard for him, he might need multiple attempts, or the MC might not understand what he’s trying to say.

If the MC rejects him, he’d likely become shy and awkward around them, maybe even avoid them, heartbroken and embarrassed, not knowing how to deal with it. And maybe also still do things for the MC because of the same reasons as above.

Min:

They would be mad at themselves for trying or having hope once they realize the MC is oblivious.

They might interpret that as disinterest, rejection, or just a sign that the MC isn’t picking up on anything they’re doing.

They might feel like they should’ve done better, but before that realization hits, while they’re still trying, they’d get frustrated or annoyed because of their feelings in general, maybe think that it's stupid and because they don’t know what more to do.

They’d try really hard and might eventually confront the MC, even if it’s difficult for them. They’re not necessarily the most sensitive in situations like that, so when they do confront the MC, it might come off more blunt or direct than intended.

If the MC rejects them, they’d be heartbroken and maybe even angry, possibly at the MC at first, but would eventually realize it’s foolish and more on them for missing the signs and still pushing so hard.

Marcos/Maria:

They would let the MC be. They’d think it’s probably for the best. It would hurt them of course, knowing how they feel, but even having feelings, or even the faint hope of a relationship, was foolish from the start.

But when they pursue someone, it’s subtle: small behavior changes, quiet acts, slight reactions. For someone who knows them well, it might be a bit more obvious, but not for the MC, or even for themselves.

If they do become aware they’re pursuing someone, they’d likely get irritated at themselves for it.

Anonymous asked:

So I got to the romance tutorial and noticed that there was a symbol for poly romance, which got me curious on who the poly options were?

Planned are

Hongyu x Marcos/Maria x Mc (for every Mc)

Maria x Mc x Sinan (for female Mcs, since Sinan is straight)

Nayla x Aneka x Mc (for female and non binary Mcs, since Nayla is a lesbian)

Miguel x Hongyu x Mc (for male and non binary Mcs, since Miguel is gay)

However the poly options in the lawyer prologue aren’t there yet, I will add them in the future. :)

But all of that can also still change, I am currently planning a lot of romance content and features so yeah, but that’s my idea/plan for now.

Thanks for asking :)

Mission Light - Update 12.05.2025

Hey guys :)

Here’s this week’s update :)

I ended up cutting some smaller scenes, not ones that were in the game yet, because I had to remind myself to set priorities and not get lost in too many little details, or I’ll never fully finish the lawyer prologue at this point.

There are already a few small moments that I’m sure only a tiny percent of players will ever see. While I love including those hidden routes and easter eggs, they take forever to write and code, and they’re slowing down more important progress.

So, I’ve decided to just write those ideas down for now and maybe add them later.

I also decided to cut the whole police officer path for now.

I’ve kept the code in the project in case I change my mind, but at the moment, it just doesn’t fit the story the way it used to when I first started.

The doctor prologue is still planned and will come in the future, though.

This week I also spent a lot of time planning and structuring the next chapter. It’ll be split into three major parts, each with smaller segments.

I’ve started writing Part 1 of Part 1, which is already about 30% done and included in the new update I just uploaded to Itch.io. It’s not a lot, just a few choices and the beginning of the next chapter, but yeah :)

I still haven’t added or updated the missing scenes in the lawyer prologue, though.

What I did manage to do is overhaul the skill system. It was still based on ideas from over a year ago and didn’t really reflect where the story is heading anymore, so I’ve adjusted it accordingly.

I also realized I need to tweak some of the romance options in the lawyer prologue, especially for Marcos/Maria. While planning the next chapter, I noticed some of the original options don’t quite fit who they are or what would realistically attract them to someone anymore.

Lastly, I just want to say thank you so much for all the feedback and support. I’m incredibly grateful and happy :)

Also, someone kindly sent in an ask explaining a previous question I misunderstood, so thank you for that. I’ll try to answer it this week, I promise :)

That’s it for now :)

Take care,

Jakob

Anonymous asked:

How would react the ROs if the MC is completely oblivious to romance and is content with their life?

Maybe I’m not fully understanding the question, but if the main character doesn’t want romance and is genuinely happy that way, then none of the OCs would really mind.

They’d either be happy for the MC or just neutral about it. If the MC is content, then they’re content too.

Some people out there might get offended when others don’t date anyone, like some may feel uncomfortable when someone is happy being single or if someone isn’t "contributing to society" (meaning not dating, having kids, and so on).

Or they ask dumb questions like, “Oh, who’s going to take care of you when you’re older?” But none of the love interests are like that.

However, I’ll still share the more specific thoughts of each character. (As always, since Mission Light is a work in progress, some things could change in the future.)

Sinan

He would just be happy that the MC is happy, even if he knows that deep down that kind of life wouldn’t be for him. Maybe he would even admire them a little or wish that it would he that easy for him too, you know to live happily without a partner or romance.

Nayla

She would be happy for the MC, and might even find it kind of cute, especially depending on how oblivious the MC is.

Aneka

She completely understands the MC. She doesn’t need romance to have a good and fulfilling life either.

Hongyu

He doesn’t date either about 95% of the time. People have different reasons for that, and so does he. If the MC is happy, then that’s what matters, then he’s happy too.

But deep down, he might feel slightly jealous or bitter that it is so easy for the MC to be content with their life just like that. He wouldn’t really understand why he feels that way and would try to push those feelings aside.

The MC’s obliviousness might make it seem effortless for them, but for others, navigating romance and emotions isn’t always that simple, especially when they don’t even fully understand what’s going on inside themselves.

Miguel

He would be a little envious, he would like to be able to do that so easily too, instead of constantly dealing with messy feelings and random crushes. But overall, he’s happy for the MC.

Min

If they have a high relationship with the MC, they would be happy for them and might tease them in a lighthearted, playful way.

If the relationship is weaker, the teasing might come off as a bit meaner, and they wouldn’t really care what the MC does with their life.

Marcos/Maria

They wouldn’t really care, it’s the MC’s life after all.

------

I hope this is what you meant :) Thank you for your question :)

If you were asking how the ROs would react if they had a crush on the MC and the MC was oblivious and content, feel free to send me another ask :)

Mission Light - Lawyer Path Part 2 - Out Now!

Hello guys, it's me again :)

First of all, I know I said that I would try to upload the update by the 8th of April, but yeah, that didn't happen, obviously.

Before my top surgery, a lot happened, and I had no time to finish everything.

I also lost some of the things I had written because I was careless.

I was frustrated about that, and after the surgery, I needed some time to recover. I also had a few complications, and university started again.

By now, I've managed to rewrite a lot of what was lost, but not everything.

Since I finally want to put something out there, and it's been six months since I originally wanted to finish the lawyer prologue, I've decided to upload what I have so far.

Which, in itself, is also a lot—I'd estimate it to be around 170,000–180,000 words :)

Now, there are still about 3-4 things missing, but when you play the new update, you'll notice that I added a short text/info when that's the case.

I will add those sections in the future. There are also some more minor things I want to add here and there, so my work on the lawyer prologue isn't finished yet.

However, since I have worked on it so much, I’m really tired of seeing it at the moment. So maybe I'll start working on the next chapter first and then get back to what’s missing in the lawyer prologue later on to regain some motivation/fun in writing. I've been wanting to start the next chapter for so long; I finally want to write all the scenes I've been planning and more.

Honestly, it’s been an up-and-down process. Sometimes I was really motivated, sometimes I wasn't, and there were just parts I kept putting off because I had no fun writing them, but I needed them for the progression of the story. So, the quality of the writing may differ in some parts.

I also have to fix the scaling and the relationship/flirt points for some characters/parts, but that's something that only concerns me for now since they aren’t really relevant at the moment, but yeah.

Starting now, I want to do weekly updates. That means, at the end of every week, I’ll upload a new version with everything I’ve written and done during that week, so please remember that. It could be a new choice, just one new paragraph, or maybe a lot of new content.

I will always tell you what I added/changed, though.

If you find any bugs/code problems, please let me know on Tumblr :)

I also try to answer the remaining asks at some point, but it may take some time since I have an important exam coming up that I can’t fail because it's my second-to-last chance to pass.

Nonetheless, I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved.

It’s been almost a year since I started working on this project, and even though I would have liked to have published more by now, I’m really happy with what I’ve done so far.

The way it’s going right now, I’ll probably be writing this for like 5 more years, but that’s okay—art takes time, and I know I function differently than others, in the way I work, think, and how my energy levels work.

I’ve worked for at least three hours almost every day on this project, at least on the days I was home and not out, and it's the most, the longest, and the most consistent thing I’ve ever done.

Even if my writing, storytelling, progression, and choices aren't perfect, I’m happy I started this. Otherwise, it would have forever remained a dream of mine.

This is the project I always wanted to do: writing, game mechanics, my art, and my characters. So, I think this will be sort of my life project.

It's really, really far in the future, but at one point, I would love to add maybe a mini webtoon, mini-games, a better sidebar, more lore, game mechanics like a diary or letters, a timeline, some voiced lines, etc., stuff like that, and maybe even a character creator drawn by me, where you can create your own character.

That way, when I finish everything, I’ll truly have my dream work of art, incorporating all forms of art I like and everything I mentioned before.

I am grateful for every person reading and liking my story; it means so much to me.

Now for the update

This update includes:

Updated Prologue and First Part:

  • I changed a lot of the writing/internal struggles of the main character
  • I added the possibility to play matchmaker between Hongyu and Marcos/Maria
  • I added more depth to the main character's past with Noel and the lingering effects
  • I also changed a lot of the choices and their outcomes
  • I added a new system for Noel and the main character's dynamic (hate him, believe in good/nostalgia, afraid of him)

The New Second Part:

  • Meet Noel again and deal with him in different ways
  • Learn about your coworkers' superpowers
  • Pick one of two choices, leading to two entirely different fight paths
  • Awaken your own powers
  • Decide how to approach the fight with Noel (on both paths), leading to many individual fight outcomes (the two different broader paths with 4 main splits and even more choices on one, and 2-3 splits on the other)
  • Meet another agent, Min, in the aftermath of the fight and deal with everything that happened
  • Ask more questions and figure out more about what’s going on and went on behind the scenes
  • Prepare/start to get ready to confront Noel and his group in the next chapter to finally end things once and for all
  • Meet more agents (Sinan and Nayla) in the end and meet your group's pet dog, Vin :)

That’s it for now :)

Take care,

Jakob

Mission Light - Update 24.03.2025

Hello guys,

It’s been a long time again, I know, but I’ve been busy.

Between concerts, university, and getting sick three times, I’ve had a lot going on. I’m also on vacation right now with my flat mates and best friends, I’ve been in Japan for eight days, and now I’m in Korea until the 27th :)

I’m also really, really close to finishing the lawyer prologue. All the writing is finally done, now it’s just the finishing touches, for real this time. I’m about five months behind my original release plan, but oh well…

I hope I can release it before my top surgery on the 8th 😌 That’s my personal goal, so wish me luck.

I’m not sure how much I’ll get done after that, since university starts again soon and I have three important (and difficult) exams, because I’ll be graduating next year :) I’m confident that now that I’ve found a routine, a writing process that works for me, and a clear direction for my ideas, I’ll be able to publish more content this year, as I said before, once all the big, stressful events are over.

I’m so excited for you to finally read what I’ve been working on for months, and I can’t wait to share my plans for the future chapters. I’m so, so, so excited! 😆

I’ll also try to answer the questions I’ve received before the 8th. Wish me luck for a smooth surgery and a fast recovery :)

Take care,

Jakob :)

Anonymous asked:

So I'm kinda confused by the route of MC being blackmailed for merely depending on their friend emotionally when at a hard point in their life. The other routes, I understand because they all involve a degree of crime. But this one? Not so much. At least, in its current form.

Like, did MC tell him some big secret that they feel the need to comply instead of telling him to buzz off when he claims they owe him for *checks notes* taking on his offer of support? Did they get threatened, stalked, their house broken into, etc. or something physical that they are going along with whatever the friend asks? (I'm actually drawing a blank on his name right now, I'm so sorry)

There isn't even a mention of MC agreeing with him that they owe him so the idea of MC just not telling him off or even going to the police to file a complaint comes across as stupid.

Hey :) Thank you for asking me something :)

To answer your questions and explain my thoughts:

First, Noel is an asshole. His behavior is supposed to feel weird, unnatural, and erratic, it doesn’t have to make sense. There’s a lot of deeper lore behind his actions, which will play an important role in the next 3–4 chapters. The MC will/can also start wondering about it in Part 2 of the lawyer prologue, which I’m almost finished with, which will hopefully be released soon.

And the whole “Hey, you owe me because of that or that....,” after years is weak from the beginning and it’s supposed to be like that (more on that in later chapters).

But to explain, what I can say without spoilers, Noel is basically saying, "I helped you" (it's not important who offered and who accapted), and because of that, the MC owes him now. He wants something in return for the time he invested in helping them get better. It’s meant to be more about emotional manipulation, he did offer to help, but now he’s twisting it, like, "Okay, I did my part, now pay me for it or you owe me now."

The MC knows there’s some truth to that, depending on how you look at it, Noel did help them, and technically, if you follow his reasoning, he could want something in return. But at the same time, the MC sees that it’s a weak excuse, ultimately pretty stupid, and that there’s no real substance to it.

The MC goes along with it because they’re sick of their current life. On the surface, they have everything they ever wanted, their dream job, good money, great coworkers, and essentially most of their dream life. But despite all that, they feel empty, like life is being drained from them more often than not.

They’ve tried everything to reignite that spark, going out with others, taking vacations, etc. but nothing worked. Quitting isn’t an option either; they’ve worked too hard for this life, and they doubt leaving would solve their dilemma. And when they are at work, things are fine sometimes, but other times, not so much. And once they’re back home, the same emptiness and frustration creep in again. (Pretty much how I feel about my life, which is why I’m writing this book to fill the longing and emptiness by doing something I’ve always wanted to do and I bet/know that a lot of people out there feel the same.)

When Noel appears, the MC suddenly feels a spark of excitement, an adrenaline rush that catches them off guard. It confuses them, but it also feels real, more real than anything they’ve felt in a long time. After all, this situation is completely out of the ordinary: their shady ex-best friend reappears after years, acts like an asshole, demands something from them, and on top of that, they suspect it’s tied to a crime. Noel is a criminal, while the MC is a lawyer/police officer or as a doctor at least a law abiding citizen.

Depending on the choices they make, they might be fully aware that it’s stupid, or even afraid of it and aware that it’s stupid, or they might be extremely excited despite knowing it’s stupid, etc.. But regardless of how they feel, they still go along with it. And agreeing to do Noel’s bidding isn’t a carefully thought-out decision it’s more of an impulsive or a spontaneous reaction.

It’s like those moments in life where you know something is a bad idea. You recognize it’s stupid, maybe even dangerous, but it excites you, intrigues you. And before you can stop yourself, you’re in. That’s exactly how it is for the MC.

Over the course of the lawyer prologue and the other prologues, the MC starts daydreaming about the tasks, becoming a little delusional about them. You can be excited/intrigued about something while also feeling afraid or stressed, and that’s exactly what happens to them. Despite the fear and uncertainty (on some paths) this whole situation does something for them, it makes them feel something again, later the MC also says that they feel alive again, that their eyes are sparkling again (depending on your choices). For the first time in a long while, they feel alive.

Just thinking about Noel and the tasks makes them feel emotions they thought they’d lost. That’s why they don’t go to the police or try to stop it. They’re intrigued, hooked, even if they know it’s reckless and they don't like/trust him.

Fun fact, I’m currently rewriting this whole part/this storyline anyways, to a degree.

Then later you can decide how the MC handles it, whether they continue to live in their delusions/daydreams, excited to do more and convincing themselves it wasn’t/isn't so bad, or have a mental breakdown because of the consequences, realizing they fucked up by going along with it even though they knew from the start it was stupid. (That happens to me a lot actually, knowing something’s stupid, but still doing it, downplaying it, and then it turns into a disaster like I predicted in the beginning. But I still went along with it because it did something for me like excitement, idk.)

Those realizations can come at different points in the chapter after big or traumatic things happen, depending on how long the MC stays “delusional.” But as I said, I am currently rewriting that.

I wanted to tell the story of someone who lets their emotions, thoughts, and daydreams influence their decisions, someone who downplays things so much that they go through with something even if they know it’s stupid. And now, they have to live with the consequences.

I wanted to explore this because, honestly, that’s the story of my life. Whether it’s because of my ADHD and/or autistic tendencies (I don't want to use that to explain things all the time but it's the truth) or just the way I am, I don’t know. But it happens to me all the time, in all kinds of situations.

(Like, I know I have little money left for the month, but I still buy an expensive jacket. I know it’s stupid, I know it might stress me out, and I’ll be angry at myself later. I know it's going to happen, but in the moment, I downplay the consequences or tell myself I will manage somehow. And then I don't.)

(Or my friends ask me to go out and party last minute, even though I have work early the next day. I know I’ll be exhausted. I know I’ll regret it. But I still go. And every time, I have the shittiest day afterwards. And every time, I tell myself, next time will be different, be it the day after, or my decision.)

That’s what I was trying to capture in my story, this cycle of impulsivity, regret, and having to live with the choices you made. I actually thought I did okay with getting that across (the rewrite is better, I hope), but maybe I didn’t. Maybe it’s my writing, or maybe it’s just that others don’t think the way I do, so they don’t naturally understand the character’s development. For me, it makes perfect sense (I know I am the author but yeah), but I realize now that I might need to adjust a few things to make it clearer for readers for whom it doesn't.

Anyways thanks a lot for your ask, it really helped me understand how people outside of me and my friends might interpret it. Hopefully, I can make it better that way. ;) And hopefully I was able to give you more insights/a better understanding of the story.

Take care :)

Jakob

Mission Light - Update 08.01.2025

Hey, it’s me again after a long time. Happy New Year, by the way!

A lot has happened—uni started again and I had a writer’s block throughout November and part of December. I’m way behind where I wanted to be, but things finally getting better. I’m almost finished with the prologue now. I had planned to release the second part in October, but here we are. It took longer than I wanted, but oh well.

I plan to be more active here in 2025 and write more, even though it’s going to be a busy year for me.

I always plan too big and end up overwhelmed by my ideas and tasks, which causes me to freeze and do nothing. So, I cleaned up my ideas and to-do list for the story and cut some things. It would have been cool to include them but I’m just one person and the prologue is already way bigger than I expected—160,000 words (including code, with some repeated passages, so it’s not really 160,000, but that’s what Twine says).

I had to compromise. Maybe that’s why the prologue seems a bit messy to me right now, but I’m working on cleaning it up and improving it.

I’ve decided not to promise release dates anymore because I often can’t meet them. Chapters, updates and content will come when they’re ready. However, some of you might have noticed that I updated my Tumblr blog and the itch.io game site.

I’ve realized that I get frustrated or hit writer’s block when I don’t immediately feel a sense of success, probably due to my ADHD. Sometimes, I get so frustrated that I want to abandon the whole project. But each time, I get mad at myself because I want to prove that I can finish something—that I can finish this and stay consistent without changing my interests and projects every week.

To help with that, I’m considering weekly updates on my progress in 2025. It won’t be much—maybe a few hundred/thousand words per week—but it might help me staying motivated. I would still make bigger announcement posts when a chapter is complete, so that those who prefer to read completed/finished chapters can wait for that. But we’ll see how it goes.

I’ve also done more character art and CGs and I’ve updated my art style. I’ll be posting those in the future. I also plan to write some short stories or prompts. I know I haven’t been consistent in answering questions, but please send them if you have any—it really helps me stay motivated when people engage with my work.

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading, and thank you so much.

Take care,

Jakob (yes, I changed my name, haha)

Mission Light - Update 19.11.2024

Hello guys, it’s me again! :)

I’ve been busy with uni and other things. I also hit a bit of writer’s block, but I’m still making progress on writing and improving the novel.

This year, I’m focusing on finishing the lawyer prologue so that I have a solid, polished example. With all the changes and structure in place, it should be much faster to write the remaining two career prologues.

I plan to release the first chapter after the law prologue, before the other prologues, so readers can meet the other characters sooner. It’ll make things more engaging—reading only prologues for too long can get boring. I’ll add the other prologues and the content connected to them together later.

Once the new year begins, I’ll have time to update the project’s design—like refreshing the Tumblr page, the game, and other elements. I’m also focusing on planning and building a strong foundation for the characters. This groundwork will make it easier to move forward.

My goal for 2025 is to finish all the remaining prologues and the next two chapters. These will still be part of the introduction, with the real story beginning in Chapter 4. Realistically, I probably won’t get to Chapter 4 until 2026. The project has already grown far bigger than I originally expected, but I’m excited to keep going.

Take care, Jakob :)

One thing that scares me about ppl codediving is them finding out how to stupidly some of my variables are named. I'm just gonna rip the bandaid off and come out with the worst one. What do you think the variable for teenage MC resenting Remy for their clinginess is called?

Remysentment.

I relate to this so so much hahaha. My variables and section names are more of a chaotic mix of German and English and my ADHD mind, than stupid but still. I feel like even people fluent in both languages could be confused when reading my coding help.

Like what is alles gut oder?, ja auf nein, kampfalleinendenopowers, mfightversteck, kampfallein3coccoon2.

I apologize to anyone trying to learn something by codediving my work and ending up more confused. :)

Mission Light - Update 01.10.2024

Hello :)

It's me with an update!

First of all, thank you so much for all the love, feedback, and to everyone following me here and on itch.io who is interested in my story—I am so happy. This is probably the longest I’ve consistently worked on the same project, and even though it can be hard sometimes, all the support motivates me to keep going :) So, thank you.

On a more personal note, I’m a little stressed again because of university. I have another tough exam coming up in Statistics (which I really struggle with), so I’ve been studying a lot. It's been frustrating because I hate it so much.

Even though Part 2 of the law path is objectively shorter, there’s a huge split in the branches during the big fight at the end—so big, in fact, that I’ve been working on it since the beginning of September. I’ve managed to write a decent amount despite everything, so I’m quite happy with that.

I’ve also done some rewrites here and there to improve the transitions between choices. I took the feedback I received about them to heart. I already had a feeling the choices and transitions weren’t the best, so I’m definitely working on improving them :)

Additionally, I’m working on two new features in the lawyer path. They’re not too big, but they’re also not insignificant, and I’m excited to see what you’ll think when you read them. Since the last update, I’ve added about 15,000 words (I think—I can never really tell, it just confuses me to be honest), but yeah.

Take care, Jakob :)

Anonymous asked:

Let's say Mc having a nightmare so they are either screaming or crying in their sleep. So how would the Ro's react and feel during that? (dating stage)

Sinan: Sinan feels a deep fear and sympathy when MC has a nightmare, as if their pain is his own. He approaches them with calmness and gentleness, softly trying to wake them without startling them. After offering water or asking quietly what they need, Sinan might try to lighten the mood by making a soft joke, hoping to distract them from their distress. His instinct is to hold them close, offering a mix of quiet comfort and light-hearted humor, ensuring MC feels safe and protected, while also gently steering them away from the lingering fear.

Nayla: Nayla is immediately concerned when MC is distressed in their sleep. She instinctively cuddles closer, whispering calming words to soothe them. If MC doesn’t settle, she gently wakes them, offering warmth and reassurance. Nayla stays attentive, asking what they need and offering her presence as a steady source of comfort, constantly reaffirming that she is there to support them in any way they need.

Aneka: Aneka reacts with calmness and quiet support, gently waking MC if they seem too distressed. She asks if they want a hug or offers to make tea, always suggesting peaceful activities like reading a fairy tale or listening to an audiobook together. Aneka doesn’t force conversation, preferring to be a quiet, steady presence, comforting MC through shared silence and simple gestures that convey care without the need for too many words.

Miguel: Miguel tends to panic inwardly, freezing at first because he doesn’t know how to handle the situation. His reaction is driven by concern, but he’s unsure of the right approach. He may ask others for help if possible or nervously wake MC, possibly a bit too forcefully due to his anxiety. Once awake, he struggles with silence, finding it too awkward. Miguel will start rambling, going on and on about how worried he was, or asking MC if they’re okay, repeatedly. His ability to comfort others is limited, and he knows it, so he compensates by holding MC close, continuing to talk because he’s uncomfortable with silence, even if his words aren’t very helpful.

Hongyu: Hongyu reacts with tenderness, gently caressing MC’s hair or cheek. His approach is soft and warm, placing a kiss on their forehead and whispering soothing words before waking them gently. His focus is entirely on MC, asking if they’re okay and offering to stay by their side. Hongyu doesn’t hesitate to make their well-being his priority, offering physical touch and quiet reassurance, doing whatever it takes to make MC feel safe and comforted, with no concern for anything else.

Marcos/Maria: Marcos/Maria wakes MC quickly, not with harshness but in a straightforward, practical manner. They want to help but aren’t sure what’s needed, and if MC doesn’t express their needs immediately, they become unsure of how to proceed. Their awkwardness stems from not knowing how to deal with others' emotions, feeling uncomfortable in situations requiring emotional support. They want to make things better but are unsure how to navigate the situation, often leaving if they feel they’re not needed or if it gets too overwhelming. They’re torn between wanting to stay and help but feeling uncertain about their ability to offer comfort.

Min: Min feels a wave of panic internally but tries to maintain an outward appearance of calm. They wake MC quickly, asking if they’re okay and what they need, but struggle to process their own emotions afterward. If MC says they’re fine, Min may still feel unsettled, unable to go back to sleep, and may even leave the room, unsure how to deal with their own anxiety. If MC asks Min to stay, they’ll awkwardly cuddle close, unsure of what to say or do, sometimes repeating the same phrases over and over, trying to comfort but feeling out of their depth. Min isn’t good with others’ emotions, often fumbling through the interaction with awkward comments or silence, simply staying physically close because they don’t know how else to help.

Anonymous asked:

How would the Ro’s react if they accidentally hurt Mc physically or emotionally in like a heated argument, and how would they react after this all blows over? (wait till Mc approach them or goes to them)

Sinan: Sinan would feel bad instantly because he doesn't want any bad vibes, especially within the team or in general. If the situation is really bad, he might take some time to process it, but usually, he tries to resolve things immediately and apologizes right away. Sinan is very reflective and would take the full blame, even if it's not entirely his fault. He is deeply interested in keeping things harmonious and can't stand to see others in distress.

Nayla: Nayla would feel bad, and it would show on her face. She would apologize immediately after realizing her mistake. She’s very careful and adjusts her behavior based on the other person’s reactions. If someone needs space, she respects that. Nayla would feel bad for a long time and wouldn't easily forget the situation. She might even bring a gift as an apology and reflect on her actions, and try to improve for the future.

Aneka: Aneka would feel really bad and be willing to do anything to apologize. She would ask what the other person (MC) wants to do and put in her best effort to make things right. However, if she senses that nothing is improving despite her efforts, she would start to lose interest in maintaining the relationship. Aneka understands her mistake, but if both sides aren't working together to move forward, she sees no point in continuing.

Miguel: Miguel would avoid the situation, not because he wants to, but because he's awkward and unsure how to respond appropriately. He feels easily attacked, even when he knows the criticism is valid. He overthinks things and fears making more mistakes. Miguel would feel bad about the situation and be sad about potentially losing something important, but he struggles to deal with other people's emotions and communicate his own. Avoidance feels like the easiest solution to him.

Hongyu: Hongyu would accept his mistake and apologize, showing genuine interest in fixing the situation. Internally, he would push away any pain he feels and focus on moving forward. He’s practical and realistic—if he made a mistake, it's his fault, and he feels it's his responsibility to fix it.

Marcos/Maria: Marcos/Maria would likely walk away from the situation initially. It would take them some time to recognize or acknowledge that they did something wrong, especially if it’s not immediately obvious. Even when the mistake is clear, they need time to fully accept it. They might try to ignore it and continue acting as if nothing happened. If the other person (MC) confronts them later, they might finally realize their error and offer an apology.

Min: Min would feel bad and overthink the situation, which would bring their mood down significantly. They tend to hide their emotions, becoming even more sour. Min would genuinely want to apologize, but they’re unsure of how to do it, which causes hesitation. Sometimes, they might impulsively approach the situation, attempting to apologize on the spot, but other times they might wait, unsure of the right timing. If they delay, it could take a while, but eventually, they would still find a way to apologize, even if it takes some time.

(Sorry it took me so long to answer :))

Mission Light - Lawyer Path Part 1 - Out Now!

Hello, everyone :)

Here’s the long-awaited update for the lawyer path, part one. I’ve had some unexpected events recently—my flatmates had to call an ambulance for me last Sunday, and I’ve been dealing with some issues with my university credits. These things have delayed my progress.

There are still some additional notes and changes I wanted to include, but for now, I’m just going to publish what I have and save further changes for the next update. I just need to get what I have out there.

I’ll also work on answering the remaining messages in my inbox from June (sorry for the delay!). I aim to have the full chapter, including part two and my remaining notes, finished by the end of September or mid-October.

The chapter has undergone numerous rewrites, as did the prologue. I’ve had friends proofread it and make small changes, so while I’ve tried to ensure everything fits together, there might still be some inconsistencies, also because sometimes I write when I am really tired in the middle of the night. Please bear with me and enjoy it as it is.

This is my first time writing my own story, especially one with multiple routes and in English. I’m both excited and nervous to share it, even after the prologue. I faced challenges, particularly with making sure that all the choices and the general text fit together no matter what you pick. I didn’t always succeed, but it’s a work in progress. I plan to rewrite everything once the first draft of the novel is complete.

I hope you enjoy it and understand the story I’m trying to tell. There’s a lot of exposition and dialogue to set things up, but there will be more action in part two.

As with all my writing, this reflects my feelings and experiences. Many of the main character’s emotions and thoughts are inspired by my own—overthinking, daydreaming, delusion (rip).

This update includes:

  • Updated Prologue
  • Getting lunch with Marcos/Maria and Hongyu
  • Dealing with Noel’s tasks and your workday
  • Meeting your boss, Sebastian
  • Revelations and confrontations
  • Flirting
  • A CG (computer graphic)
  • Choosing your name and voice tone
  • A romance tutorial
  • The main character going through something

Everything is roughly 90,000 words long now, including code.

I initially wanted to include more specialized roles, like different types of lawyers or doctors, but that was too much work for now. I may add it after finishing the first draft. For now, I’ve kept things open so you can decide on specializations yourself.

That’s it for now!

Take care,

Jakob

The idea for this chapter was to show the main character’s development from a grey and boring life to suddenly feeling something new. They take a quick solution without fully considering the consequences, becoming obsessed and losing themselves in fiction. This obsession leads to mistakes and dealing with the fallout. The later theme explores the main character feeling like a puppet or side character.

Mission Light - Update 30.08.2024

Hello everyone,

I'm back after another month :)

It's currently summer break, so I don't have classes, but I've been working a bit more this month.

If you check the game site on itch.io, you'll see that most of the portraits are now up and finished. I still need to tweak some details for Hongyu and complete the portraits for Dominic and Aneka, which is why they're currently missing. I'll probably redraw all of them in the future as my art style evolves and I want all my artwork to be consistent.

The lawyer path is currently at around 90,000 words, including coding and the prologue. I've finished about two-thirds of it, which represents Part 1 of that chapter since I plan to release it in two parts. Right now, I'm polishing my writing, reviewing it, and fixing the coding and other details.

Part 2 is the other third missing, and I already have everything planned out, so I expect it to be completed much faster. I had to rewrite the chapter several times because I had new ideas for the story and the player character to better fit the narrative I want to tell.

I've also rewritten most of the prologue, primarily focusing on improving the writing and making small story and flavor adjustments to better align with the rest of the game. Now that I have a clearer vision of where the characters and story are headed, I can plan and write the other paths more efficiently.

I know I shouldn't make any promises, especially since I've struggled to meet deadlines in the past, but this time I'm feeling more confident. Since I'm mostly polishing and fixing minor issues, I'm aiming to release Part 1 next week and Part 2 likely by mid-to-late September, or maybe early October.

I'm so excited to see your reactions! When I update the game, I'll also share more about my intentions, what was going through my mind while writing, some sneak peeks for the future, and more.

Jakob

Mission Light - Update 27.07.2024

Hello, it's me again, it's been a month.

My life is really stressful right now—exams and stuff—but soon it will be over. I have my last one on the 8th of August :) I will finally try to answer the remaining three asks then. They have been in my asks on Tumblr since June, I think, and I am sorry :(

On a positive note, I got a ticket for one of my favorite artists, who is coming to Germany in September, and I am so happy because this is like a once-in-a-lifetime chance. Also, I am excited to start working out again in August. I wasn't able to because of stress and uni.

Now, to Mission Light: since the beginning of June, I have been working on the lawyer path. I split it into five big plot "events." I am currently at the end of the third, which will also mark the end of part one of the lawyer path, and I will publish it when I finish it. Part two will hopefully be published in mid to late August, though late August is more likely.

Without code and unnecessary repetition of text I wrote when I was still new to coding, the word count should be around 55,000 (estimated) for the prologue and the first part of the lawyer path. I will update the code there one day.

I finished and updated some more character portraits and added them to the itch.io website too, if you are curious. Min's portrait is also almost finished :)

I plan to explain some thoughts, concepts, and ideas I had when writing the lawyer path when I post the update :)

Take care, Jakob :)

Mission Light - Update 29.06.2024/Marcos Soto - Portrait

Hello, guys :)

It's me, I am back. I am a little stressed because of uni right now, but oh well. (I got one point on my exam; I need four to pass. Fortunately, I have another chance at the end of the semester.)

I also wrote about 15,000 words since the last update, which includes a bigger scene in the middle of the chapter with a lot of different choices. And I corrected everything that I wanted in the prologue.

I actually wrote more than I expected, so I hope I can update soon and publish the corrections of the prologue and the first part of the lawyer path. :) Part two will have to wait until after August 8th because I have my last exam for this semester on that day.

I also did a drawing of Marcos, because he, or she (if you choose Maria instead of Marcos), has a big role in the lawyer path. I hope you like it, it somehow got a bit dark, so maybe I will play around with the lighting should I ever use it for the itch.io site in the future. :) I am also currently answering the remaining three questions I got here on Tumblr a while ago. (Sorry it takes me so long :))

Take care :) - Jakob
