Lamb's quarters

Chenopodium alblum

Aka. Melde, goosefoot, manure weed, wild spinach, fat-hen, white goosefoot, bathua, pigweed

Flowers June to October. Lamb's quarters like gardens, fields, and waste spaces. It's native to Eurasia. It has been introduced to North America, Australia and has been found in Antarctica.

The Charokee used leaves to treat stomach aches and prevent scurvy. A cold tea was used to treat diarrhea and a poultice of leaves was used to treat burns.

Lambs quarters is eaten as a leafy green. It is cultivated for that purpose in Asia and Africa. Flowers can be eaten cooked. The plant is used in various dishes in India.

Lambs quarters are also used as animal feed. Especially for poultry.
