Hi misha!

So I was wondering how did you come up tomiko’s name?? Well maybe explained it and so sorry for asking you for something that you have already done

hi anon!

i really do need to make a tomiko faq. i KEEP SAYING IT AND DOING NOTHING. RIP.

anyways she’s mainly based off of lucky cat figurines so i looked for words related to that. 富 (tomi), meaning “wealth, abundance, fortune”, and 子 (ko) a common suffix for girl names in japan. it literally just means “rich girl” or “lucky girl”. i kinda figured it’d be a good working name but it ended up sticking

URGENT UPDATE ON KOSA.

This is exactly how they were finally able to pass the tiktok ban after trying for 3 years. And this is exactly what I was worried about them trying as a result. Again, all info and resources for fighting KOSA are in the pinned post on my page. Plz spread the word. Even if you don't live in america, Share this with any american friends and mutuals you have. We can still fight this bill we still have a chance at stopping it just like we have in the past. The only reason it hasn't passed yet is because we keep fighting it. Don't forget that. make sure your reps and senators don't know a moment of peace

People liking your personal OCs is still such a crazy feeling, I've been doing this for years and ppl asking about them still fills my entire heart with warmth and idk how to handle it

You enjoy this fictional guy I made up for fun?? Whose only content is random artwork or writing made by me and a handful of other artists at most? They have no show/book/game with a large fandom, it's just one person with an art blog?? I love u

Hey this is a bit random but do you have any tips on how to design eldritch characters that look appealing and all, but still check the eldritch creature that breaks the bounds of reality box?

You do it pretty well with Ina! and I have been looking back at her design to get some ideas, but is there a process you have? Or other places you take inspiration from that I could study to find what works best with my style?

Overall just tips on how to make appealing monsters would be neat cuz the only guide I can find are how to make actually terrifying ones and that's not exactly what I'm look for right now y'know?

oh good question! basically, uh, study animals! a lot!! Mother nature is already the greatest character designer out there!

My method is taking a couple different animals and throwing a bunch of their traits together. Ina is based on ugly little bats (with the upturned noses) and cuttlefish/squid, with occasional cat traits too. And of course adding Too Many Eyes is a quick shortcut to eldritch coded. I picked animals that I find very cute but others may be unsettled by. If you wanted a character that’s far more unsettling you could use bug things, or deep sea creatures. Alternatively, using features from bunnies or domesticated animals could make for a softer creature, which would make it all the more surprising when it turns out to be a ruthless killer haha. Or play it straight and it’s a cuddly lil guy.

How does a certain feature on an animal make you feel? How can you impart that feeling onto others through your designs? If you’re looking for appeal find what makes it appealing to you! Honestly terrifying monsters have an appeal in themselves. That echo bear thing from Annihilation? Terrifying. I love him. It’s all about how it plays into the story and what you want to impart to the audience.

As for inspiration, I have a few art books I flip through, “Creatures, Book of Paintings by Le Yamamura” is one of my favorites. Honestly the queen of using animals anatomy in monster designs is Ryoko Kui of Dungeon Meshi. Duh.

Btw this works for alien creatures too. Or any fantastical beast. Have fun!!!
