Oh teh drama - or why I stickered a naked headless female on the wall
At first: Congratulations. I wouln't have though it possible for anyone to get offended for days on about something like this. Especially because I, a white bi-sexual female (oh gosh, now the internet knows more about me than I ever intended), stickered a naked headless woman on the wall with Creeper Cards.
So because of the overwhelming drama, here are some of my thoughts on this and the creeper cards. Feel free to write me a mail of message me on twitter/irc/whatever if you want to discuss anything with me. The following wall of text will be probably quite chaotic, you have been warned, I'm not much of a blogger, even less when it's not in german.
1) My gay white friend (why it is suddenly important which kind of sexual orientation and color someone has is still a mystery to me) stickered a PENIS next to the woman. And no one complained. The penis didn't even have legs or a stomach, so I guess that makes it even more offensive than just being headless? Nonetheless, all the drama following was caused by the exaggerated pictogram of a female.
2) I got already annoyed with the Creeper Card project when I first heard that people wanted to bring it to the congress. So when I saw that they would be used, I decided to counteract, to maybe make people think about the issue. To be clear: I respect the originial idea and the idea that they can be used by people who aren't able to communicate, but that's it.
Furthermore, for the people who aren't good at expressing themselves (which, by the way they presented themselves on twitter I don't think applies to the creeper-card-crowd) there was the option to call 113. I myself had a talk with them and found them to be quite reasonable and intelligent people. I'm sure they would have helped the situation more than a little cardboard card.
I can't think of any situation where I wouldn't rather punch someone (yes, I do that) if the person seriously molested me or, preferably, call for HELP. I don't see how or when I am supposed to pull a little peace of cardboard out and it magically changes the situation.
I'm also fond of having discussions if something annoys me. These cards don't lead to any discussions at all. They lead to the belittlement of a serious topic. I someone hands me a red creeper card because I said "Penis" (for an exaggerated example), or when someone handed a red creeper move card out in the hacker jeopardy, don't you think that is overreacting much? Was the red card really appropriate here? Did it help at all? No one takes the red cards serious if even you, who made them, use them like that. I have never witnessed a situation on the congress where a red card would have been appropriate, still you handed them out instead of yellow ones. Why? Instead you could have also explained to the persons you handed them out to and maybe found a solution together. I really don't get you. I admit to be fond of trolling if things annoy me. So I ran around with them in my cleavage, I even visited the creeper move card people with them like that and asked them if they found that offensive - the answer was "no". I'm sure it would have been otherwise if some male would have stickered them onto their crotch. Why?
3)I don't like how the text on the card puts all the blame to the alleged "agressor". I might have reacted better to the cards if the text was more "I feel molested by you" instead of "you are a sick fuck, be glad I didn't punch you".
4) I'm a responsible adult and able to speak for myself. I hate it when people think they have to white-knight me. I am perfectly able to state what I want and what I don't. If people make fun of what I want and what I don't my solutions is really easy: I don't interact with them anymore. I really don't need to be friends with anyone, instead I just pick people who respect me and my wishes.
By the way: The situation I got most offended with was actually when someone told me I looked like I could use an escort around the building because "there is so much harrasment" going on here. FUCK YOU.
P.S.: I just wrote down all this without spell checking or anything, sorry for the mistakes. Sorry also for everything I forgot to say, but I felt compelled to post this right now.
P.P.S.: I'm seriously sorry if I made anyone sad/cry with the picture. It was just an exaggerated way of showing that I'm not okay with the cards and that I don't think they work. All female bodies are beautiful. If you've still got a problem with what I did feel free to message me and I'll be glad to discuss the topic with you either in german or english.
