having literally my second original tumblr post hit 3500+ notes is so fucking funny to me. feels like waking up from a coma in the middle of a packed football stadium. where am i. who are you people. why are you clapping for me.

i figured out how to best explain the divergence between my experience of being a star wars fan both on reddit and tumblr. reddit focuses more on lore, trivia, sort of the *environment* in which the stories take place. tumblr, from my admittedly extremely limited experience on here, focuses more on characterization, knowing the people in the story, and extrapolating their motivations and fears and feelings. i imagine that has something to do with how tumblr engages a lot more with fanart and fanfics. just some observations :)

going from the reddit star wars fandom to the tumblr star wars fandom is giving me insane whiplash. the upside is that people aren’t bitching about every single imperfect detail in the entire franchise, but the downside is that i’ve seen more fanart of obi wan and commander cody tenderly knowing each other than i have ever wanted to in my life in the last three hours and it has probably fundamentally altered the way i interact with the entire franchise

after the initial shock of being plunged into the icy cold lake of seeing my childhood action figures caressing each others sweaty chests in a gentle, hidden moment after a battle, i’ve been able to get my wits about me and realize that yeah, i’m kinda with it

reminder to worldbuilders: don't get caught up in things that aren't important to the story you're writing, like plot and characters! instead, try to focus on what readers actually care about: detailed plate tectonics

I keep seeing people say that Kaveh and Alhaitham are incompatible and I'm just like... no u don't get it. They are so compatible that I'm convinced they're literally made for each other. They're both so incredibly stubborn but underneath all the bickering, they clearly have a ton of respect for each other and recognize each other's intelligence. It's because of both that mutual respect and their directly opposing worldviews and ideals that make them both pretty much the only people that are capable of influencing good and meaningful change in the other. Kaveh brings the empathy and artistry that Alhaitham needs while Alhaitham keeps Kaveh grounded. Alhaitham always seems so much more relaxed in every scene where he interacts with Kaveh. Alhaitham is pretty much the only person that Kaveh doesn't feel the need to go full people-pleaser with (excluding the occasional client that really manages to piss him off). They're actually perfect for each other.

God y'all need to stop being so smart in my notes...

I hate it when people say u need to learn the basics of art before u go into it...the true way to learn art is actually going directly to drawing what you like, then being so attached to it that you have to go back and learn the fundamentals in order to make the art of what you like better.

anyways I think it’s based that toby fox nade a game that sold a million copies and became massively culturally iconic and got in smash and was both given as a gift to and had its final boss theme played in a performance for the pope, but his wikipedia article has no “early life” section, the “personal life” section is three sentences long, and there isn’t even a picture of him. for the 3 years between the release of undertale and deltarune chapter 1 there was talk of deleting his article because they couldn’t find any information for it that wasn’t already on the one for undertale. king of privacy.

literally the more popular and successful his games have gotten the less willing he is to appear in public. before undertale released he got up on stage and pitched it at a con. a month after it came out he did an audio-only interview with game informer. on the 6th anniversary livestream they had a facecam of the fangamer guys on a couch playing and then a cardboard cutout of the annoying dog that read out communication from toby via text to speech device. by 2030 he’ll have no online presence and a usb drive with “deltarune chapter 7″ written on it in sharpie will just mysteriously appear on gabe newell’s desk one day.

I need someone to send me 50 usd now

my "i have a bomb" backpack is raising a lot of questions from the TSA that are already answered by my backpack

Remembering the time my old nb roommate who went to an LGBT law conference and was heaping the absolute biggest bitchfit texting me cause “some cis guy” was talking about trans people and trans men in particular and my roommate refused to listen to what this guy said cause “why should I listen to him” and I said “are you sure he’s cis?” And then towards the end of the presentation he said something that indicated to the crowd he was a trans man and then suddenly my roommate started to consider what had been shared.

Absolute loser behavior, but not completely unique. We’ve all gotta stop saying only x people can talk about x issues for us to listen. Too many people in the in group will have dogshit takes no one wants to challenge because “well, they are x identity.” Likewise, plenty of people on the out group actually know what they’re talking about and have something to contribute to the conversation.

Especially when it comes to sexuality and gender, you relying on someone outing themselves or you clocking them to decide whether their words have merit is shitty, because you won’t always know if they ARE the group “allowed” to talk about it. And even beyond that, I knew a fuckload about transness before I realized I was trans, it helped me REALIZE I was trans. “Listen to x voices” got sooooo warped in the discourse.

I love it when my creativity spurs other creativity. literally no better feeling as an artist than when someone looks at something you’ve made and goes “I saw this and liked it so much I could do nothing more with myself than turn it into drive for my own creativity” like that’s really what creativity is huh!! an instrument to further human expression and community and connection
