I had no idea it was near an anniversary, but only two days ago I went through your old soundcloud and listened to a bunch of your Dirk va as well as others. I haven’t been that into homestuck recently, but something made me want a kick of that nostalgia. Yours were always some of the best hs voice acting I remember, and I absolutely love it still to this day. Thank you so much for your contribution (and for not taking down your work like many other hs vas from that time 😂) I hope you’re doing great!

Thank you, it makes me happy to hear people still enjoy those. I kind of put my work on hold because I wanted to wait until I was better at it and start putting out things that were great. But I got sort of absorbed in the “waiting” and one day I realized I just wasn’t making things at all anymore. So I’m really trying hard to find my way back to making things, even if they’re not perfect.

I hope you’re doing great too!

I think today’s the tenth anniversary of my Dirk/Hal Homestuck voice over project. I wish I had made something to commemorate the date, but it’s okay! Sorry it’s been so quiet for so long, but thanks for sticking around.

I recorded an alternate narration for the Tears of the Kingdom trailer.

I think the guy in the real trailer sounds great, but the script felt too generic for my tastes. I thought it was a disappointing way to hear him speak for the first time ever. So just for fun, I decided to write and record my own version. It’s been a while, so I’m even more rusty than when I actually did this on the regular. But I had fun with it.

I do this for writing but it can work for anything. When I'm stumped for ideas I find a music playlist with the general vibe of what I'm hoping to do (ie something silly, dramatic, romantic, ect) and just listen to that while I do something else. I just let my mind wander and imagine what it will to go along to the music

I like it! Thanks for the tip. :)

Idk how useful this advice will be.

Whenever i need ideas for what to draw, i usually just binge a bunch of theory videos for whatever fandom im in.

From there i can take bits and pieces of stories and characters i like, and start brainstorming. Alot of small changes from the source can eventually make it your own.

When it comes to what the characters are doing, i use pinterest for that. Looking up videos and pausing it when a good scene comes up helps too.

That's really helpful, thanks for the response! I really appreciate hearing what makes others tick in this context.

Is it silly that I want to find a class, not on writing, but on like... imagination? I'm spending a lot of time learning to draw and animate. But when it's time to sit down and just come up with ideas (not even necessarily big or "new" ideas, just anything fun to make in that moment) I find myself drawing a blank. Could just be an idea for a single sketch. I almost feel like what I'm looking for is a storytelling class. Not quite "writing" but just how to tell a good story.

I’m not totally sure how to describe what I’m looking for, which is why the word imagination comes up. Maybe like anything else, it's easier when you're doing it more regularly? But I don’t expect to find a class on Project City for “imagination.”

I also think maybe I'm looking for a class to solve something that's just me needing to spend more time trying. You can’t teach imagination, right?

I love your Homestuck dubs with Dirk and Hal! I can only think of your voice acting for them now. In this fine day that is 2022, do you still have any Homestuck projects in the works? Good HS dubs are so refreshing, but can't find much still up on the internet!

Thanks! I'm always happy to hear someone still likes my stuff all these years later.

At the moment I'm not working on anything HS related, sorry! In 2020 I joined a group that was working on dubbing Pesterquest, but I think the project has sort of fallen off and won't be finished.

If I find an idea that excites me, or someone wants me for a project that I think has promise, then maybe! But I'm not actively involved in any HS stuff these days.
