Legitimate *pro bono legal services* don’t exist without a good reason. In a few of the exmormon groups I’m in you’ll see regular posts saying stuff like “Look what my lawyer sent me today!” with a pic of their resignation confirmation letter from the church.

You know. Just stuff that a normal average church that is definitely not actually a cult would do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As an ex-mormon, I’m gonna look the fuck into this. I want nothing to do with the church that shaped so much toxicity about my self image and my sexual orientation.

Not sure if any followers need this but if you do, here you go.

Everyone should be able to choose their religious beliefs and community, and leave any that they find does not work for them.

Ex mormon here - this guy’s legit. The Mormon holds your files for eternity, and when they find out that you’ve moved to a new area, they will send members and missionaries from that region to harass you. I know this sounds like dystopic bullshit, but they followed my father through three moves before he rejoined the church.

Also ex mormon here who used this. It’s a ridiculously helpful service that is incredibly easy to use. They keep you updated throughout the whole process, and it’s totally worth it since the church doesn’t get to keep all your private information and pass it around once you resign :)

I haven’t used it yet for Long Reasons but i will eventually and i know many people who have. Its legit and its FANTASTIC. the process can take months, but you don’t do any of the fighting. Doing it alone can take much longer, and you have to jump through 10 million hoops and suffer loads of guilt tripping, threats, and gaslighting. With quitmormon, you just fill out the paperwork, wait several months, and its done, no fuss or fight.

The existence of this site means lots to me because it’s an easy escape route for other victims of this legitimate fucking cult. I’d super appreciate if y'all would help spread the word because millions of exmormons out there dont realize this is something they can do, and as long as the church has your records, they will continue to stalk and harass you for the rest of your life, even if you move ten times and never give them your new address.

Is there a Jehovah’s Witness version? Just in case anyone needs it, I know it’s also really hard to leave them.

I haven’t heard of one, but the ex-JW online community is full of tons of very helpful people. If anyone out there is trying to leave (escape, more accurately) the witnesses I’d recommend they look at some #exjw #ex-jw tags on tumblr and definitely ask on the r/ex-JW subreddit, I can pretty much guarantee they’ll get a very empathetic & supportive response from folks who have lived through it themselves.

JK Rowling is Transphobic but PLEASE buy Hogwarts Legacy -- here’s why

As someone who worked on Hogwarts Legacy, please please please buy the game. It’s unfair that the hard work of hundreds of people– that the jobs of hundreds of people should be affected by a person that barely had anything to do with the actual work.  Whether or not the game does well doesn’t really affect JK. She’s already rich. She’s getting crazy revenue from every single Harry Potter merchandise in existence. Nothing will change that. 

Boycotting Hogwarts legacy won’t hurt Rowling. 

You’ll just hurt us. The people whose jobs rely on the game doing well. You’ll hurt the artists and writers that spent hundred of hours toiling away at a project that they love. We love Harry Potter.  Many of us grew up reading that series and plenty of us are Harry Potter nerds. Imagine, a Harry Potter game made by the kids and teens who grew up reading the books and watching the movies. As well as the adults who read those books to their kids.

Instead, donate money to your favorite trans charity. Stream the game and donate that money to organizations that teach of inclusion and love. Use Hogwarts Legacy to support the trans community BECAUSE Rowling will hate it. 

Don’t force your 11 year old self to miss out on something fun, beautiful, and magical. Use that righteous anger as a weapon of love instead.
