Ahhh it's been so long since i posted here i feel suffocated with the rest of the social media, just need some airrrr
My solo-date time, got my fav deserts. Nothing a good book and sweets can't fix :) 🤎✨
A third of Pakistan is under water. A third of the entire country. Absolutely mad.
9.5 million houses have been destroyed
Idk where you're getting those numbers. It's predicted that up to a one quarter to a third of the country could be underwater by the end of monsoon season.
Nearly 500k homes have been destroyed and as of this article published this morning, August 29th, more than 3.1 million have been displaced.
Here are some aid organizations you can donate to (don't worry, I looked into them and checked Charity Navigator and stuff). You can also call on your country's government to provide aid and if you live in a country participating in the IMF you can urge them to send IMF aid too https://www.imf.org/en/Countries
oh, i love the way relationships develop their own personal language of love. when all that joy shows the way they love you. i love when it is a little icon to who they are, to how you get along with them.
my sister takes a picture of a dead bug and sends it to me - this is you. my friend asks me how the move is going; she put a reminder in her phone to check up on me. i put a piece of ice down my friend's back, he returns the favor by holding my phone over my head and making me jump to catch it. jason and i scream-sing green day while going all of 15 miles an hour down country roads. molly is who i go to for a quiet night in with 5 dollar wine.
i go out for dinner with them and have to step outside to take a phone call; when i come back they've ordered my favorite appetizer without needing to be asked. andrew and i have a long-standing tradition of him picking me up to spike me directly into the first soft-looking surface around. i don't even need to speak to my best friend - she and i will just look at each other and have an entire conversation. burst out laughing at 3 PM, high and cackling like we're evil witches. i just moved by myself into a new city - my brother keeps introducing me to his friends that now live close to me. he always says - oh yeah, this is sibling and then pretends to ignore me. for days now, my family has been in and out of my apartment, just tinkering with things; making sure i am settling in nicely.
i usually have watermelon instead of cake for my birthday; kim forces a full yankee candle into the rind so i can have something to blow out and wish on. for 20 minutes on a saturday, all us grown adults crawl into one bed to have a cuddle puddle like we're in high school again. every 20 seconds someone starts giggling, and then we're laughing again. nick calls me from california; we both groan about the price of tickets, agonizing. miranda and i meet up in the city for the first time in years - without discussing it beforehand, the minute we lay eyes on each other, we both strike gruesome little gremlin poses instead of waving. dean always goes for the hug. joe always does a single firm handshake. sometimes i think about my friends and get so happy i just start crying.
oh, how wonderful to live in a world where affection is biologically ingrained in us. how wonderful that affection helps us build our single greatest strength - community. how wonderful that affection is our body's way of saying - thing is good, let's keep. how wonderful, this language, this skein we weave! to show the other person - i might not always say it. but i love that you live in me.
happy one year to despair the truth <3
you’re the most caring man on earth. you are the most selfless, loving human being i will ever know. you know, ever since we met, ever since i pulled you out of hell… knowing you has changed me. because you cared, i cared. i cared about you. i cared about sam, i cared about jack… i cared about the whole world because of you. you changed me, dean. why does this sound like a goodbye? because it is. i love you
When travelling alone, does anyone else switch to their masculine pose to be intimidating and then make up 'rescue yourself' scenarios until you are jerked out of that?
Because i do.
There is this girl who always walks over me. She acts like she is my best friend and shares everything and all, but she doesn't understand the concept of reciprocity. She doesn't let me talk, can't take a suggestion, can't give an advice and makes everything about herself. She is very self centred, stubborn and always trying to make her point, even when it's not necessary.
The personality i described right now, is multiple people in my life and i barely know how to handle them. They are very toxic and i don't want such toxic friends.
She always asks for help and never does when I'm in need, today was the first time i said no to her, and i have this very heavy guilt building up inside my throat that i wanna throw up. I know it's normal to feel guilty, but should I have helped when she asked? Or what i did was right?
I feel like no matter how hard I try, no matter how much efforts i put in, i always receive disappointment. I gave my best in an exam a weeks and i got into a university for my post graduation. But i got a reasonable scholarship, not a full ride, but my parents seem unhappy.
I feel like people need to start seeing the good first and then talk about the negative situations. How would you feel when you get promoted in your job, and share it with your wife and she starts getting upset because that's not the paycheck she is expecting from you?
That's bullshit i believe. We all have our own potential, and sometimes we can't reach expectations. And that doesn't have to mean we are bad people or that we are incapable of achieving something. I believe strongly that, we all have our own expectations of ourselves and no one should beat you up, not even you, for not reaching them. I believe you should look on the positive side, the brighter side, just for once, and let that happiness stay, and let that spark and inner child be excited that they achieved something in their lives.
I have certain expectations from my life, and i have certain thoughts and individuality and free will, in my house, i don't have a say, i always have to obey and i feel like I'm stuck and suffocated, i feel like I'm forced to live this life, it doesn't feel like I'm living it fully and happily, so I'm making small changes in my mindset everyday, getting kinder, getting smarter, getting a bit more talented, a bit nicer, a bit more postive, a bit healthier, a bit more happy, and idk how long I'll be able to keep trying, i don't wanna give up on my life, i wanna work, some times i get tired and i lose motivation, but i get back on track, so i take a break from digital life and spend time with music and reading books and writing what i feel and letting out my emotions by crying or smtg, i feel better honestly, just wanted to put it out there, idk
all i need in life is
- to have somebody write a poem about me, paper filled with their eloquent words
- to wake up filled with excitement at the days plans
- to have people use my name when they're speaking to me
- to have them remember small details about me
- to have the realisation that life is beautiful, surrounded by my friends
- to absolutely scream songs on the beach at night
- to sit around a fire and feel safe
- to come inside to the warmth after having danced in the rain
- to know everybody i love better than i ever thought i would
- to feel the crisp coolness of the ocean on me, going home smelling of salts
Any suggestions/inspiration for a STEM-focused, dark academia aesthetic? I'm something of a reformed humanities student finishing an engineering degree this time around.
I think STEM in Dark Academia is an underappreciated aesthetic. The humanities seek to understand what it is to be human, and this is a complex venture indeed. But studying STEM means you seek to understand the world around you. And my God, are there mysteries to be uncovered. Let’s go down the list together, shall we?
SCIENCE.
- Latin words fall from your lips as easily as a prayer, and isn’t there piety in this? Devotion, worship? There must be, for you to be able to dig your hands into the breathing body of the world around you and have it speak back. Messily scrawled chemical equations are practically tattooed onto your arms and hands, and sometimes you wake with the molecular structure of a human red blood cell drawn carefully on your heart with no memory of putting it there, but it moves with the pulse of your heart. Bubbling beakers and plumes of emerald, cobalt, violet flame. Faded lab coats. Hair cut short or pulled back neatly, not a single tendril hanging down. Dirt under fingernails, sleeves rolled up and out of the way. You know poisons, toxins, you know the pump of blood through arteries, you know how close we are to death, and you know how it feels to hold the hand of human long dead, still cold from the cooler. Death hates you, because you are helping humanity evade it.
TECHNOLOGY.
- Lines and lines of code stare back at you from the over-bright screen of your monitor. You know, you know that we could be more, that the future is a few keystrokes away if only you can organize your tumbling thoughts and the wall of symbols in front of you. You like the way robots move; tiny, carefully planned, yet oh so jerky motions that can’t help but remind you of when a baby deer takes its first quivering steps. You think humans were like this once, in the beginning. You think the movement in a motor resembles the inner workings of a human heart. You imagine the veins that pump blood through your body as wires on a circuit board delivering electricity from one place to another. Leather shoes laced as tightly as possible, tiny blueprints doodled on the soles. Bronze bells hanging from a bedroom window, a crumbled silk shirt. How far can you push at the boundaries of what is possible before something breaks? Will it be you or reality that gives first?
ENGINEERING.
- What is it about the smoothing of clay into shapes that makes humanity stop and say, “This must be what it feels like to be God”? How much more can you feel it, with the power in your fingertips and in the corners of your mind to make things humans could never do? To push civilization past its breaking point and remake it anew, better, stronger, more than God ever did? What is the difference between man and machine, and should you even care in the first place? You are like God alright, you are participating in something divine, something holy. You double check every equation and think about what it means to be alive. You decide that, in the ever moving cogs of this great clock, you will be the first piece that moves, the one that pushes the others to succeed. Pencils stabbed into messy buns, lipstick stains on pale coffee cup rims. Your eyes are sharp and focused, but your thoughts are ever moving and desperate with desire to create, to bound forward into the future you are oh so carefully envisioning, every piece laid out and pinned down within an inch of its life. Children are starving, the world is burning, and you can do something, you can fix this, because if you don't, who else can? Who else will?
MATHEMATICS.
- What is math? A meaningless formal game. Above the door at Plato’s Academy were inscribed the words, “Let no one enter here who is ignorant of geometry.” How can it be that both are true? A secret language exists that no one is born into, but is available to all willing to learn. Astronomy, the constant ever cycling of the universe around us, our own home a puzzle piece in a cosmic dance. Meandering lines of equations that are beautiful, beautiful, because you know what they mean and they speak to you, they sing. You write them with calligraphy pens and hang them above your desk, they are as much an expression of the human condition as a Picasso; show our creativity more than a Monet. Hands dirty from dragging them over cramped pages of numbers and graphite dust, equations traced into the foggy glass of your favorite coffee shop, messy hair and bitten down nails, math pun t-shirts under tweed blazers, the theory of relativity scrawled sloppily on your knee, the world around you the sum of shapes and numbers and you can see it, you can hear it.
STEM in Dark Academia is nonstop in its restlessness. There is always more to be discovered, further to push, limits that can and will be broken. There is a darkness to that beauty, a madness that permeates the cracks of every field. A historian could have told you not to make the atom bomb. A scientist can’t help themself from seeing how much destruction is possible.
okay hold up because I’m gonna be sincere for a moment.
I just. it’s just really nice to be able to come on here, and two have a little community with you guys to talk about things like this. yeah the internet is a mess but I feel so incredibly lucky I live in a time like this where we can make these connections and talk about these things because the thing is, I wouldn’t know. I wouldn’t know otherwise. every time I make a “hey does any other trans person do this or is that just me” and you guys relate to it and reassure me that you’ve experienced that to. it’s just so. affirming. reassuring. and I wouldn’t know otherwise, I wouldn’t have known. it’s not as if I wouldn’t have figured anything out on my own - and trans people have existed long before the internet, but it’s just nice. it’s comforting. it feels a hell of a lot less lonely. because I think there’s a lot I would have kept quiet and to myself, and assumed I was the only one, that the feelings and thoughts I have, the things I do are weird, that no one else does them so it doesn’t mean anything anyways. I went a long time feeling that silently when I was a kid. I knew I was different but I didn’t know why, I couldn’t isolate it. just that I was, and wasn’t supposed to be. and uh. it was really fucking hard. and I didn’t have anyone I could talk to. and I was a fucking lonely kid. I was so goddamned lonely. and I remember being 12 years old and feeling completely alone in the world and couldn’t see myself reaching 20. and I didn’t understand why that was either, just that I felt broken. and I’m so glad I got to grow from that place and be here now and. and the fact there’s a place where I can share these experiences and learn that I’m not alone, and I’m not weird, and that this didn’t like. it’s not from nowhere. there’s just a certain level of comfort in knowing there’s a certain level of shared experience. a hey, I do/feel that too.
“Oi, Hero.”
Oh no. Please no. Not now, not now…
“Hero, what are you doing?”
Hero ignored them, curling up into a ball and covering their head with their hands. They closed their eyes, tears sliding down their cheeks.
“Stop ignoring me.” Hero ignored them.
“Hero, you’re so annoying, I swear to-” Villain started, walking around and crouching in front of Hero. Villain’s voice broke off, clearly seeing the expression on their face. Hero’s hands shook as they sobbed uncontrollably, not even caring that their nemesis was standing in front of them. They knew how they must have looked- completely devastated, eyes red and puffy and hands trembling. Hero looked up. Villain had an unreadable expression on their face. Hero sighed, shaking their head in annoyance.
“Well, just do it, then.” they spit. “I’d rather get this over with.” Hero sighed, placing their hands on the ground next to them and closing their eyes, preparing for the final blow. Villain nodded, crouching down in front of them. Hero felt dread rising in their stomach, but they tried to ignore it, instead waiting patiently. After a minute, they opened their eyes, looking at Villain in confusion. Why were they hesitating?
“Hey, come on-”
Arms suddenly wrapped around them. Hero blinked in confusion, trying to push away. Villain grabbed onto them, holding them tight. Hero felt what little emotional control they had left completely break, and they started crying again. They clutched Villain’s shirt desperately, leaning into their shoulder. Villain’s hand coursed through their hair, and they whispered reassuringly.
“Better?” Villain asked, some time later.
“Better.” Hero replied.

Story Structures for your Next WIP
hello, hello. this post will be mostly for my notes. this is something I need in to be reminded of for my business, but it can also be very useful and beneficial for you guys as well.
everything in life has structure and storytelling is no different, so let’s dive right in :)
First off let’s just review what a story structure is :
- a story is the backbone of the story, the skeleton if you will. It hold the entire story together.
- the structure in which you choose your story will effectively determine how you create drama and depending on the structure you choose it should help you align your story and sequence it with the conflict, climax, and resolution.
1. Freytag's Pyramid
- this first story structure i will be talking about was named after 19th century German novelist and playwright.
- it is a five point structure that is based off classical Greek tragedies such as Sophocles, Aeschylus and Euripedes.
- Freytag's Pyramid structure consists of:
- Introduction: the status quo has been established and an inciting incident occurs.
- Rise or rising action: the protagonist will search and try to achieve their goal, heightening the stakes,
- Climax: the protagonist can no longer go back, the point of no return if you will.
- Return or fall: after the climax of the story, tension builds and the story inevitably heads towards...
- Catastrophe: the main character has reached their lowest point and their greatest fears have come into fruition.
- this structure is used less and less nowadays in modern storytelling mainly due to readers lack of appetite for tragic narratives.
2. The Hero's Journey
- the hero's journey is a very well known and popular form of storytelling.
- it is very popular in modern stories such as Star Wars, and movies in the MCU.
- although the hero's journey was inspired by Joseph Campbell's concept, a Disney executive Christopher Vogler has created a simplified version:
- The Ordinary World: The hero's everyday routine and life is established.
- The Call of Adventure: the inciting incident.
- Refusal of the Call: the hero / protagonist is hesitant or reluctant to take on the challenges.
- Meeting the Mentor: the hero meets someone who will help them and prepare them for the dangers ahead.
- Crossing the First Threshold: first steps out of the comfort zone are taken.
- Tests, Allie, Enemies: new challenges occur, and maybe new friends or enemies.
- Approach to the Inmost Cave: hero approaches goal.
- The Ordeal: the hero faces their biggest challenge.
- Reward (Seizing the Sword): the hero manages to get ahold of what they were after.
- The Road Back: they realize that their goal was not the final hurdle, but may have actually caused a bigger problem than before.
- Resurrection: a final challenge, testing them on everything they've learned.
- Return with the Elixir: after succeeding they return to their old life.
- the hero's journey can be applied to any genre of fiction.
3. Three Act Structure:
- this structure splits the story into the 'beginning, middle and end' but with in-depth components for each act.
Act 1: Setup:
- exposition: the status quo or the ordinary life is established.
- inciting incident: an event sets the whole story into motion.
- plot point one: the main character decided to take on the challenge head on and she crosses the threshold and the story is now progressing forward.
Act 2: Confrontation:
- rising action: the stakes are clearer and the hero has started to become familiar with the new world and begins to encounter enemies, allies and tests.
- midpoint: an event that derails the protagonists mission.
- plot point two: the hero is tested and fails, and begins to doubt themselves.
Act 3: Resolution:
- pre-climax: the hero must chose between acting or failing.
- climax: they fights against the antagonist or danger one last time, but will they succeed?
- Denouement: loose ends are tied up and the reader discovers the consequences of the climax, and return to ordinary life.
4. Dan Harmon's Story Circle
- it surprised me to know the creator of Rick and Morty had their own variation of Campbell's hero's journey.
- the benefit of Harmon's approach is that is focuses on the main character's arc.
- it makes sense that he has such a successful structure, after all the show has multiple seasons, five or six seasons? i don't know not a fan of the show.
- the character is in their comfort zone: also known as the status quo or ordinary life.
- they want something: this is a longing and it can be brought forth by an inciting incident.
- the character enters and unfamiliar situation: they must take action and do something new to pursue what they want.
- adapt to it: of course there are challenges, there is struggle and begin to succeed.
- they get what they want: often a false victory.
- a heavy price is paid: a realization of what they wanted isn't what they needed.
- back to the good old ways: they return to their familiar situation yet with a new truth.
- having changed: was it for the better or worse?
- i might actually make a operate post going more in depth about dan harmon's story circle.
5. Fichtean Curve:
- the fichtean curve places the main character in a series of obstacles in order to achieve their goal.
- this structure encourages writers to write a story packed with tension and mini-crises to keep the reader engaged.
- The Rising Action
- the story must start with an inciting indecent.
- then a series of crisis arise.
- there are often four crises.
2. The Climax:
3. Falling Action
- this type of story telling structure goes very well with flash-back structured story as well as in theatre.
6. Save the Cat Beat Sheet:
- this is another variation of a three act structure created by screenwriter Blake Snyder, and is praised widely by champion storytellers.
- Structure for Save the Cat is as follows: (the numbers in the brackets are for the number of pages required, assuming you're writing a 110 page screenplay)
- Opening Image [1]: The first shot of the film. If you’re starting a novel, this would be an opening paragraph or scene that sucks readers into the world of your story.
- Set-up [1-10]. Establishing the ‘ordinary world’ of your protagonist. What does he want? What is he missing out on?
- Theme Stated [5]. During the setup, hint at what your story is really about — the truth that your protagonist will discover by the end.
- Catalyst [12]. The inciting incident!
- Debate [12-25]. The hero refuses the call to adventure. He tries to avoid the conflict before they are forced into action.
- Break into Two [25]. The protagonist makes an active choice and the journey begins in earnest.
- B Story [30]. A subplot kicks in. Often romantic in nature, the protagonist’s subplot should serve to highlight the theme.
- The Promise of the Premise [30-55]. Often called the ‘fun and games’ stage, this is usually a highly entertaining section where the writer delivers the goods. If you promised an exciting detective story, we’d see the detective in action. If you promised a goofy story of people falling in love, let’s go on some charmingly awkward dates.
- Midpoint [55]. A plot twist occurs that ups the stakes and makes the hero’s goal harder to achieve — or makes them focus on a new, more important goal.
- Bad Guys Close In [55-75]. The tension ratchets up. The hero’s obstacles become greater, his plan falls apart, and he is on the back foot.
- All is Lost [75]. The hero hits rock bottom. He loses everything he’s gained so far, and things are looking bleak. The hero is overpowered by the villain; a mentor dies; our lovebirds have an argument and break up.
- Dark Night of the Soul [75-85-ish]. Having just lost everything, the hero shambles around the city in a minor-key musical montage before discovering some “new information” that reveals exactly what he needs to do if he wants to take another crack at success. (This new information is often delivered through the B-Story)
- Break into Three [85]. Armed with this new information, our protagonist decides to try once more!
- Finale [85-110]. The hero confronts the antagonist or whatever the source of the primary conflict is. The truth that eluded him at the start of the story (established in step three and accentuated by the B Story) is now clear, allowing him to resolve their story.
- Final Image [110]. A final moment or scene that crystallizes how the character has changed. It’s a reflection, in some way, of the opening image.
(all information regarding the save the cat beat sheet was copy and pasted directly from reedsy!)
7. Seven Point Story Structure:
- this structure encourages writers to start with the at the end, with the resolution, and work their way back to the starting point.
- this structure is about dramatic changes from beginning to end
- The Hook. Draw readers in by explaining the protagonist’s current situation. Their state of being at the beginning of the novel should be in direct contrast to what it will be at the end of the novel.
- Plot Point 1. Whether it’s a person, an idea, an inciting incident, or something else — there should be a "Call to Adventure" of sorts that sets the narrative and character development in motion.
- Pinch Point 1. Things can’t be all sunshine and roses for your protagonist. Something should go wrong here that applies pressure to the main character, forcing them to step up and solve the problem.
- Midpoint. A “Turning Point” wherein the main character changes from a passive force to an active force in the story. Whatever the narrative’s main conflict is, the protagonist decides to start meeting it head-on.
- Pinch Point 2. The second pinch point involves another blow to the protagonist — things go even more awry than they did during the first pinch point. This might involve the passing of a mentor, the failure of a plan, the reveal of a traitor, etc.
- Plot Point 2. After the calamity of Pinch Point 2, the protagonist learns that they’ve actually had the key to solving the conflict the whole time.
- Resolution. The story’s primary conflict is resolved — and the character goes through the final bit of development necessary to transform them from who they were at the start of the novel.

i decided to fit all of them in one post instead of making it a two part post.

As most people are working and studying from home right now, I wanted to share some concrete, implementable ways you can help yourself feel better. Though I believe productivity and quantity of work done (or lack thereof) doesn’t/shouldn’t translate into your self-worth and how you view yourself, when you get work done, you actually do feel better in your own body.
By the way, it’s the first time I’m formatting a tips/guide post like this, so I apologize that I couldn’t be more concise.
I’ve spoken to a licensed professional counsellor as well as to some professionals who have been working from home for a long time, and some of the advice above is from them. I’m also sharing from my own experience as someone who used to be very productive and an (ex-)overachiever, and still attach a lot of my self-worth to grades and other tangible accomplishments. I hope these slides can help you. In case it’s hard to read, I’ve included it (reworded) in text form if you’d like to read more.
they wrote cas as just (i hate myself)(im not worthy of love)(im not worthy of friendship)(i dont fit in anywhere)(i dont deserve to fit in anywhere)(im too human to be an angel)(im too inhuman to be a human)(im unlovable)(i fail everyone i care about)(all i do is fuck up)(ive done one good thing in my life and thats save dean winchester)(i deserve to die over and over again)(as long as he lives)(i have no family)(i hurt all the family ive had)(i love dean winchester)(i will die for dean winchester) and then didn’t elaborate on ANY OF IT
